Went to Canadian Tire to do some stocking stuffer shopping.

I'm still hoping to get to my sis before Christmas so trying to get stuff done.

@Mrs.Anteater I concur with your sister: pets to love are a good antidote to some of the world's craziness. I've been seriously thinking about getting a dog again. Mine died in November 2020, and I miss her so much. I have a Christmas ornament with her picture on it, and I have to admit to a lump in my throat when I hung it on the tree. On another (also thoughtful) note, today would have been Seeler's birthday.

I'm having a lazy day. I feel like I have the beginnings of a cold. Hopefully being a sloth will help it go away. Meanwhile, I'm working on my Santa gift while watching Call The Midwife.

There are so many of them. You can have some that are baked on a cookie sheet and and willbe a square type , then there are cookie type gingerbread recipes. The old type of recipes call for a different type of rising agent - I never heard of in Canada, so don’t know what is is called in english. But there are recipes with baking powder as well. The difference to Canadian recipes is that you weigh every ingredient, Germans don’t use measuring cups. So you need a kitchen scale. Let me know if you want a recipe or more from me. You should also ask him what his favourites are. And then, there are classics you just have to buy in a store that carries German cookies, like Dominosteine and jam filled chocolate hearts.
Not getting very far. Keep finding recipes with almond flour and bought some of that. But he says the gingerbread cookies have no nut flour, although he remembers grinding nuts for something. Help! His sisters live in Windsor, I have not met them, he says none of them know the recipes....

Also, I have a scale, as English recipes often require same, as do fussy bread recipes.

Good Monday morning! As we pause to remember special pets and special people who have passed on, make plans to see family members, struggle with recipes, use apps to watch programs, as other topics and themes come up, let us join in spirit round the Coffee Cart for good conversation, good company, and good virtual hot beverages. There may be some gingerbread and cinnamon buns around, too. Come and join in! (As Advent has begun, we bring out the Advent Blue tableware)

Is there a special cup that one puts stimulants in to keep them from spilling and circulating ... so as to stop disturbances of the Cause E Moes?

Said to be the source of fireworks and other pyrotechnics ... these are potential in the head Mon ... don't blow it!

Now are these evolutions thought or passions? Maybe just a we blast ... when it goes astray ... ghosting's!

It is said there is one for Christmas if you can unwrap the baggage from St Nick of Cusa ... a demon to Rome a place opposed to given's ... thus failed grace ...

Shimmery ... or chimera? Monstrous hit ... sometimes said to occur as a node in the night! Inking, blinking, etc.

Is there a dark spot in humanity? Thus the adage: "evil is among us!" A smear worse than any politician or their decreed polity ... crowd madden's ...

Took me a moment to see the blue.
Thanks for setting us up so we'll.

I went and did stocking stuffers Saturday night and then Sunday late afternoon. All are sorted in individual bags in the cupboard, ready to grab and fill.

Amazon order for a few things will soon be on its way.

Special book tucked away for grandpa.

Found two little stuffed husky toys for the box for the kids big gift.

Feeling good about prep should i be able to go away for a week even before Christmas

Way to go @JayneWonders! I started wrapping a little last night. Because we are doing Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and New Year's Day meals, I need to have everything else done well in advance. Plus, I have babysitting days, and a colonography and prep, so that means a few days when I can't do anything. But...it does feel good to be prepared in advance.

I have no idea what, if anything we will do at Christmas. Only thing I know for sure is that we aren't cooking a big meal for the younger family members. If any of them invite us to join them we will do our best to get there.

I have purchased and stashed a 22 lb turkey, a small ham and a lot of potatoes and sweet potatoes and cheese and flour and butter. # of dinner guests changes. I was shifting furniture around downstairs today when he piped up - don't move the leaf back there because we might need it Christmas day! And both of our places are under serious renovation (from internal - me, and external - him, sources), and I'm wondering where I might put a tree or a creche... So our motto to family and friends is "we'll cook, but you have to come to us", and if we eat at 3 and you come at 6, there will be leftovers, and wine, for you. And witnessing how very difficult an overstressed Bette can be, we make much of the meal in the day or two beforehand, and warm up as appropriate.

I'm hoping there's enough sugar once we get to baking here. I tend to like to have more backups than Chemguy and I picked up in the fall that there would likely be a shortage on shelves. I bought one small bag of brown sugar - couldn't even get what I normally get back then which surprised me as it's not Rogers. He said no to picking up white sugar even though we do not have a bag of it, he thinks we have plenty in our pantry. Can't get a bag of it now with a grocery order.
Worse case - many of the things we make don't use sugar - it's chocolate or marshmallows or ..... I should really check the butter-tart recipe, which I know calls for corn syrup. Something on the to-do list, see what uses sugar and prioritize. Pyrizhke is top of list, not sweet but still requires a decent amount.
