the weather here has gone back to normal, thank goodness. over cast ,sweet summer rain showers and cool -- a good change from the irrational East Canada muggyness & extreme heat combo...glad g_d's on the job and not slackin' o_O

i wonder how long it took Pinga to get a contact high (in all the senses) here?

A few of my friends received some very sad news yesterday, a friend of theirs passed away. I met her a few times but didn't know her well, but the way she passed has had me thinking all day. I don't know the details but from what my friends were told, she had gone camping with friends and started chocking on her food, no one knew what to do (possibly because they were under the influence) and she died. It just seems so senseless to me, how can no one in a group have had first aid training and/or how could all of them have allowed themselves to get so inebriated that they were incapable of helping? It just seems so...senseless.

Greywolf - that is sad. Unfortunately it happens. If someone is making choking noises and perhaps gasping for help, people notice, and since the sound indicates that at least some air is getting through. They may be able to clear it themselves. Unfortunately if the air passage is completely blocked, choking is silent. In a crowd of people all talking and laughing, the silent one may slip into unconsciousness before anyone notices. Also, if they are able many people try to get to the privacy of the bathroom to avoid the embarassment of choking. This is the worst thing they can do -- they may need help.

So sorry that this happened to a young woman in your circle.

Greywolf, sorry to hear about that, it is sad.

MIL came, quite possibly the first and last time as she hates traveling. We had a great time and our garage now has bright lines below the storage area in addition to the dim lights above the storage area. We won't be stumbling around in the low light anymore. We were forewarned they would leave early, but not to worry about getting up to see them off. They never gave us a time, I wish Chemguy pushed a bit more. I figured they meant they wanted to be gone by 8 or so. Chemguy got up before 7 and they were gone. I had woken up a few times before then and hadn't heard anything.

Four or five would be early for us, Chemgal :) - eight would be late if we were travelling.

It is a very rainy day here today. Son and girlfriend arrived last night and we had an enjoyable visit with them over supper and enjoying the summer evening last night. Today we are having a family supper and relaxing indoors with all the rain. I think we are on the edge of what Yorkton-Dauphin area got - I hear they had quite the rainfalls.

We've left at really early times before, like 4am. Not for a 3 hr drive though! I figured they wanted to get home for lunch, and it's Chemguy's parents, so I just went with his lead on it.

Oh well, it just meant we missed saying goodbye to them. We had a good time, and a few missed minutes while they packed up in the morning don't make a big difference.

It's 30 degrees here - humid - a due to get worse. After church I came home and turned on the air-conditioner and said a 'thank-you' prayer for technology. I dread going out again to pick up Seelerman when he gets off work. Then he'll probably want the air conditioner turned off for the evening - it's an old, window-type, and very noisey, meant for one room but trying to cool the whole house. Seelerman doesn't mind the heat. I'm just waiting for September. Then we usually get a couple of good months before its coats and boots again.

But the strawberries are ripening. Anybody for short-cake.

Crazyheart - we had pouring rain for two days last week. It cooled down to 14 on night. I took advantage of the cool weather to have the oven on to make a cake and cook a roast of beef.
Have you noticed when your family consists of two, you only have to make a meal every second or third day and have left-overs the next day. That roast lasted three days - roast with oven roasted potatoes and carrots; roast with mashed potatoes and gravy, peas and carrots; roast chopped up in little pieces and cooked with hashbrowns with tossed salad on the side.

It depends. BBQ steak isn't anywhere near as good as a leftover. Sometimes we'll get takeout, depending on what we sometimes just get enough for one dinner. I like some of the prepackaged broccoli chicken breast things, we often don't make extra of those.

A slow cooker dinner will feed us for days. If we're making our own chicken (vs the just stick in the oven types) then it's pretty rare we would only do 2 breasts. Stirfry will usually only last for 2 dinners, despite Chemguy's plans to make it go longer. I like to snack on it in the evening cold, and usually eat a fair bit for lunch too. I don't usually try to change the leftovers. I usually stick to the same thing, although sometimes we'll cook up ground beef for two different things.

My Brother in Law won't eat leftovers. Seems like a waste of food. We went over for burgers one time, and the uneaten ones were just thrown out.

What!!! (re: chemgal's BIL) - we always eat our leftovers - especially burgers! We have them the next day for breaky with eggs. (Well, I haven't been eating beef burgers for over a year now, but sometimes I have chicken burgers).

It is raining here also . . . but not as much rain as down south (Saskatchewan and Manitoba). But it doesn't keep my son and his GF from going out fishing - they put on their slickers and dress for it - they are having a blast.

Do most people have a long weekend and are off tomorrow, or does everyone work tomorrow and then just get Tuesday off?

Tomorrow is not a stat holiday, but I think quite a few people get it off unofficially. Chemguy was told to work at home, he responded he wouldn't work at all. His boss forgot it was the start of his holidays lol

The clinic is open, so I will be hydrating tonight for my appointment.
