Belated happy birthday Bette. A lot of us have had fairly quiet birthdays over the last two years. I kind of like it that way. I remember one surprise party put on by my sister where I pretty well glared at everyone....I was not in the mood!

I haven't really done much to celebrate birthdays since my 50th (6 years ago now). Just order some takeout (or, in more normal times, go out for dinner). Should probably plan something big for my 60th but if I retire early, that might the "something big".

Left pinky has been sore for a couple days. Doesn't feel like arthritis and there's no joint inflammation like I usually get with arthritis in the knuckles so thinking I must have injured it somehow. Just not sure how.

Today has had a mix of lazy and productive. We have a bunch of boxes from my father's place. I've sorted a couple and have some shredding to take to Shred-it. There are boxes designated for my siblings. My brother will be here on the weekend and will get some. That will clear some space. We have to take some stuff back to my sister's on Vancouver Island. She has wisely declared that she and her husband will take us out for dinner at our favourite Greek restaurant when we get home.

My husband's ex's son wrote a nasty letter to my father's lawyer complaining that I had taken advantage of his mother when I sent the furniture to her house. Well, I had gotten her permission the day before. I wrote a couple of notes to the lawyer telling him what actually happened and he will deal with it. Who actually does this kind of thing? Such arrogance and stupidity. I'm hoping the ridiculous letter just makes him look like an ass. It bugs me that the stupid letter has interfered with my sleep two nights in a row. I think I've vented and processed it enough now to be able to drop it. Karma will prevail.

I drove to Halifax after work because they have a pop up rapid test site there that also gives out self- tests to take home. Was hoping to get a stash to be able to test my unvaccinated son every time he is invited to a gathering at my immuno-compromised friend’s house. I could get as many as I wanted- but they are only good for one week. Bummer. So, he has his own birthday party ( with likely a bunch of other unvaccinated people) this Saturday and a BBQ at my friend’s house a week from Saturday. Since the tests are only good until Thursday, I thought I’d at least go and test him on Thursday. I have mentioned the issue last weekend and asked him how he as an unvaccinated person,is planning to protect her from infection. He did not have an answer. My friend says she will continue to invite him and not ask him for any precautions. ( as long as the official rules allow gatherings in homes). There is no rapid test site in our area. There is a PCR test site in his town and they are open until 8 pm two days a week, but the results take 1-3 days. Not very practical if a gathering is coming up. I feel I have to push rules for him when he visits. Not sure how he will react.

Oh, and it took me almost two hours to get there- stuck in traffic for 40 minutes. I decided that city live is not for me anymore. Couldn’t do that on a daily basis.

Also, most of the rapid tests will be slow to pick up on an infections, some are better than others. Pharmacies here are offering them, moreso to know if someone had COVID at some point. They weren't recommended to use when having symptoms, although who knows what will happen as the government drastically cuts out testing.

Good Friday morn, all! The coffee cart is up and running for your virtual hot beverage needs. As we think of family members we haven't seen in a long time, for the wide and wild variety in the availability of instant tests, of distant family members who have grudges, let us gather and offer (and find) support.

Good morning again, all. Old coffee is poured out, pot given a good cleaning, fresh coffee is perking. Tea water is boiling. As we celebrate women's soccer gold, let us gather and lift cups, mugs, etc. in honour.

Son’s birthday party tonight ( with friends- so I will only drop off food and disappear as good parents do. Also suspecting that the amount of unvaccinated people is to uncomfortable for me. Bringing taco salad, some BBQ sausages and a Costco tuxedo cake. Yum.
Good Red always has the right colour of mugs.
Have you heard neswest study revealed if you drink 6cups a day or more you are increasing you likelihood of getting dementia or stroke.

Does’t apply to virtual coffee, though. Don’t want to be the party pooper here...

A virtue-all should ponder ... thus depth! Some say heavy reading not for those searching the simplistic way out ...

In random news, it is once again raining buckets here. Unfortunately, I thought it had stopped and headed out to the rail trail for a walk (and to relocate a couple of mice). We are both VERY wet.

We had a system go through early in the afternoon but it is sunny now. Did not last long. I once got caught in a downpour biking home from a summer job. Ended up cowering in an underpass until things settled a bit.

We seemed to have had two systems move through, and I mistook the break in the middle for the end. It's lovely now.

Feeling pretty awful today. Lots of wind and I feel the pressure change with each gust although I slept through most of it. Went from bed to couch, pressure change is a little less here probably due to being more open to the rest of the house instead of 1 room with ac hooked up.

So, the damp of the Pacific coast, the deep snow of some of Ontario, the damp cold of the East Coast, would all be worse than smoke, heat and wind?
