My wife and I are between boxes and a lot of activity as we are selling most of our stuff for the move. Jeez, am I anxious! I'm not too fond of the uncertainty between an emptying old home and a still-empty new one. On top of that, taking a 7-hour trip (4-hour wait in Toronto) with our cat also makes me worry for him.

To be clear she's not as far from the shore as it looks. My friend took this photo from another spot. The dog is not far from where I was standing in the middle left of this photo. You can see the wake she created from that spot. You can't see me in this photo.
A wonderful photo - it made me jealous of you and the dog! :D

Your vet should be able to prescribe a mild sedative that may make the trip more comfy for kitty. Also make sure that the kennel is comfy, contains a clothing item of her fav person, a toy, if she likes those. I also like the hormone spray Feliway, and find it helps with difficult travelling.

And, hah, just captured that you're moving from Winnipeg to Ottawa. You're not expecting "better" weather, I hope?

Good idea re. sedative, the vet did not offer when he had his check-up last week, but I will ask. We bought a very nice kennel that is expandable and the Feliway spray, and a Feliway calming collar. A piece of clothing is a great idea, too!

LOL. It is for work - I know Ottawa can get pretty miserable weather, but in general, the city seems more pleasant than Winnipeg.

A lot of people are moving to the Maritimes these days. Real Estate has gone through the roof. People from Toronto are buying sight unseen ( well, only seen on internet). One house at the shore sold for $250 000:more than asking price. The Realtor interviewed said something like” I wouldn’t buy a mattress without trying it out....”.

I guess Torontonians sell a 2-bedroom condo downtown Toronto and can buy pretty much anything they want elsewhere.

Yes, and celebrities are moving to New Brunswick. ( not that I know this one, but that doesn’t mean anything.
He was interviewed on the radio and said he likes the fish and chips there. But could be he will be getting bored soon.

I can't compare to Winnipeg but I know it can get bloody cold up there. It was brutal the day we went up to tour University of Ottawa four years ago. Southwestern Ontario (where I have lived most of my life) gets more snow thanks to the Lake Huron snowbelt but is generally milder (still cold, but not as many "freeze your extremities off" days). My son seems to be surviving, though. He's lived there almost 4 years now and looks to be planning to stay for the foreseeable future. Got a partner and a job there with two semesters still left to finish his degree.

And, yes, I imagine we will start making trips up there again once vaccinations have happened so I'll have to look you up and meet for coffee or something sometime when I'm up there.

Fredericton has some impressive houses, as does the Annapolis Valley. Both have lame job markets, sadly.

When I visited last year, I found it extremely wet, while Winnipeg is on the dry side. However, the City of Ottawa does an infinitely better job at cleaning snow. But I doubt it is colder than Winnipeg. Winters here can be brutal for weeks in a row.

Good morning, all! As we ponder real estate and weather, and other topics, important or trivial, let us gather round the cart, where hot beverages of all kinds await. Enjoy.

My brother moved to the Ottawa area 40 years ago and really liked it. They lived in a small town just outside and now live in another, Smiths Falls. But Ottawa has lots going for it. Proximity to great park areas like Gatineau, not far from Algonquin, the river for canoe and kayaking, the canal for skating, the tulips, lovely parliament buildings , some great museums.
but very cold and windy in the winter, muggy in the summer. But hey, it’s Canada

Cool in Ottawa as needed autonomously to control the legal facsimiles of fabrications for keeping polity warm! These may be the long robing of solicitations from bare asters ... Jesus gave warnings! Notary publics may be something else again ... partially sacred?

Look for the carriers in the word ... may resemble dark mules ... or a Midnight missal --- Robert Service extraction!

Poetic alee hard to grip? Thus mysterious expressions for those not wishing to know ... purpose of story countering what lies are out there?

Countermanding against gerrymandering ... G-Raes? Dark and penetrating as prying into occult systems ... destabilizing the confidence of powers ... thus tyrannical insecurity! G-men ... as professionally folk do not self govern well! The chaos resulting is deep ... sometimes you can identify with people that have been there ... into still and deep pools! So it is writ ... a sign!

*sigh* The problem with a lot of things moving to telehealth - less staff in the office. Right now I'm not sure if my hematology appointment is just late or if it will have to be cancelled. If other staff was around they could give a quick call to say hey, he's running late, will you be free for a while once he's ready? or hey, he got called in for an emergency and we will have to reschedule.
The staff is only checking voice mail 2x/day though, I assume remotely.
