I would suggest making blueberries into a warm sauce to top it with plus add the cream...
The berries hadn't really thawed yet - so I just tossed them back in the freezer until next time! But your sauce sounds lovely!! The cake turned out okay without them, but I have to do the recipe 'exactly' for the test run ... so until next week ...

@Kay - ya - I thought about scooping out the pan & adding blueberries to the dough - but then the crumble would be mixed in ... so just put it back in the oven & admitted defeat on today's effort! Fortunately it is a nice warm sunny day & a few people stopped by - one at a time! - to say hi & I sent them all off with a piece of cake!

That is wonderful, @Carolla .

I was gifted with a beautiful loaf of bread by a mutual friend of @Carolla 's and mine.
Her sourdough is a work of art, and it takes amazing.

ps. This is Pinga. I will be using JayneWonders going forward for all my day-to-day posting. It ensures that I don't accidentally use any superpowers attached to the admin account. It is something we discussed when we first stood up wondercafe2, but, at the time didn't split our accounts. For me, it is better to split them, so we finally got around to it, as part of spinning up the new article forum.

Thanks for keeping this forum going.

Good morning, all, happy Friday! As I look at the discussion above, it reminds me of something I heard years ago... 'If what you baked or cooked doesn't exactly look like the picture in the cookbook, don't worry about it. Just tell your friends that it was the way you meant it to turn out. Then let them try to duplicate it.'
Anyway, the coffee cart is ready, with all manner of warming beverages for all. Enjoy.

Kettle is on for the tea crowd. Putting on a pot of Scottish Breakfast.

Kind of grey and wet today here. We had heavy rain overnight (I heard it when I awoke briefly in the wee hours) but now it's mostly wind and lighter showers.

Her Sourdough IS a thing of beauty indeed JayneWonders! (I know I'll eventually catch on to your new name!!)

I spent much of today sewing some new 'spring' masks - lovely spring colours & watercolour type floral pattern :) While doing that I listened to a webinar from ihollaback.org on how to intervene when witnessing harassment in public places. It was excellent. I'm glad I registered for another on intervening in race based harassment. Then this afternoon I listened to a two part Brene Brown podcast interview with psychologist Dr. Susan David - on The Danger s of Toxic Positivity & Emotional Agility - also fascinating. Dare to Lead Podcast | Brené Brown Feels like a day well spent. Now it's tea time :)

Good morning, all! Let us today give thanks for home-baked breads and other goodies, that are so much better than the rough equivalents one could find in stores. We gather round the cart, with tea, coffee, etc. available to all, so help yourself.

Looking up hot cross buns recipes. Mom always used her ordinary bun recipe and doctored it with cinnamon and raisins. She also did icing crosses...pink icing, actually. And we always did a brown sugar and milk glaze. However, one on-line recipe did an apricot jam glaze. Sounds yummy.

As a person who doesn't claim to be Christian I make them without the crosses. Tradition, Tradition..............along with no meat on Fridays! Known as Not Cross Buns. My mum didn't bake much, definitely not Hot Cross Buns, however it only took a short while for me to hop on my bike and get some fresh out of the bakery oven. If the wind was from the right direction we could smell them from our house. We only got them on Good Friday, but they were available in the preceding days. My vaguely followed recipe is basically 'buns' with the addition of cinnamon, allspice, raisins and currants.

Mom was very much a baker but never made hot cross buns herself. We had a couple bakeries where we could get them so she never bothered, I guess.

I have not actually had them in a while. Little M used to like them and raisin bread for breakfast but since he left, we haven't had either in the house.

Without a cross add a swirl to define the insane side of going round and round with the same thing! Eddies nippit ... some prefer to draw a line on insane personality behaviors where nothing becomes known! There are spot checks for that ... Rorschach ...

Iconic ... added to remind you of what was previously lost ... prescient capture ... mental loops!

Hot Cross Buns, Not Cross Buns, etc. go wonderfully with tea and coffee. The cart is up and running. Enjoy.
