My tree won't get down for a little while simply because I can't find any spare time or energy at present. However, as at the end of today, Epiphany, I don't plug in the lights anymore. (It's an ancient fake tree, so it's no more a fire hazard next week than it was last.) Keeping a lunatic, crazy-active hound-dog calm and as still as possible is rather tiring, and I've got several reports to write for the Annual Report that were due last Wednesday, so that will occupy me the rest of today, I suspect. And tomorrow's work as normal. Also, our minister is sick with one of the many nasty colds/flus going around here, so I led the service this a.m., to much hilarity (and not a little extra stress on yours truly). There's a reason we pay ministers...

I won't take down decorations until Ukrainian Christmas Day.

I had an interesting chat about my internet services. I was promised some credits, and only some were applied. The person I was chatting with didn't think I deserved all the ones I was told I would get if they occurred in the same month, even then I was missing some. I was getting really irritated on the principle, he has been the least friendly chat person I have dealt with and willing to make someone unhappy over $10. So I upped my demand, everything I was told I would get, plus an apology for having to contact the company again to get it.

Boom - I got what I was told I would get for credits. Nothing extra though - no apology! lol

Snow started here about midnight last night - about a foot of snow when we got up. With a new car and good snow tires we had no trouble getting out of our driveway and down the hill to the main road which was plowed. We actually arrived at church earlier than we usually do.
Very small turn-out - probably about 1/4 the usual congregation for this time of year. The large santuary seemed empty - but we would have filled a country church. Good music; good message. (And the ministers didn't make any mistakes - except in announcing that the 3rd hymn was written by a person from this city, and then correcting and saying it was the 4th hymn).
Good fellowship.
And today we tried out not having an order of service - less paper, less office time. We used a prayer from Voices United and the minister announced the hymns. We did get a single sheet of printed announcements.

Good to hear Seeler!

I thought Ukrainian Christmas (Little Christmas) was today? That's what google told me :(
Nope, the 7th is Christmas Day, so the 6th is the more important Christmas Eve celebration. I've never heard anyone who celebrates it refer to it as Little Christmas, that maybe be something else?

Holidays are over for me. Back to work tomorrow, although I've gone into the school the last couple of days to do some preparation. I loved the holidays...I feel rested; my house is as organized as it can be; and I've had time to read, visit, play cards and even watch some television. That all changes tomorrow, when I jump back on that treadmill. As much as I dread giving up this relatively relaxed feeling, by tomorrow evening, I know I'll be aglow again with the feeling that I love my job. I'm lucky that way.

Oh this cold isn't fun. I was sitting by the fire earlier. Now I'm wrapped up in a heated throw. My whole body feels worn out. We better get the fire going here too!

Just watched the hockey game with the family. The crowd was a bit tense during the 2nd.
Back to work tomorrow as well, Nancy. I glanced at my emails, then turned off the computer, and turned the phone off. I worked way too much before Christmas and so didn't work, though I know that i "should have", I chose not to. I am in for a marathon for the next two months and a good reset was called for.

Thanks Nancy, to you as well. I do love my work. I love the challenge, the changes, the interesting bits, the knowledge, trying to design policies that work for those who "get it", and those who think we are idiots and so find ways they can get around them. (I honestly think that we should consider those events serious policy violations which individuals can be dismissed for). I am meeting with the risk folks in January and it is one item that I will bring up...how we communicate flagrant policy violations and "stupid" actions. I also have made a recommendation on purchase of $500k of software, which has been bounced around for a while..having trimmed it down from close to 3million original quote, so, hoping that gets wrapped up. I have meetings with our new IT staff vendor all through the week in the mornings, and about 300 emails to deal with.. lol.

Had a great dinner with neighbours tonight ... icy though when we came out! Temp had dropped quickly.

Watched Food Truck Face-Off when I got home. Not something I would usually bother with, but a friend's son, a young man I know very well, was a contestant along with his girlfriend. And they WON! So now they have use of a beautiful food truck for the year & are pretty excited. They have had to keep it absolutely quiet until broadcast time - so now the cheering starts! Go FeasTO! BIG congrats to Cam & Ada.

Then of course ... Downton Abbey ... and started knitting a new scarf for a community project. And tomorrow back to regular work schedule after the holiday season chaos of working weird days here & there.

It does sound like a lot on your plate pinga ... lots of complexities, but in a sense that's what feeds your keen mind, right?

Nancy - two people at dinner tonight are retired teachers ... one was noting tomorrow is 'back to school' day ... maybe 'gloating' would be a better word than 'noting'! I have great respect for everyone who teaches - much harder job than most people imagine.

I've never heard of Food Truck Faceoff, but congrats! What kind of food do they cook?

ps. yes, I do love the variety & challenge of interpersonal, corporate, process, technical. The part that is critical for me personally to do this year is to do my best to allow the transition to occur with the least disrespect possible. Hard times for people losing their jobs. One friend just quit and was walked out. Hard times for people taking on the jobs and transitioning to this engineering firms culture.

2 feet and more snow coming here. School division north of us closed-it's first snow day ever. We are open.
I shovelled twice yesterday and will shovel again tonight-and did the minimum shoveling this morning. It's still coming down.
I even broke a snow brush sweeping off the car-from the weight of the snow.

We didn't really celebrate it as Christmas, but my mom used to make a supper. This was the Christmas she celebrated as a child, but then in her adult life Christmas was celebrated on the 25th for her. She referred to it as "Little Christmas", and so did we.
