I'm impressed it went that smoothly. Parents end up in meetings and unreachable, etc.
 
We have parents and also a back up on file for each child. Back up can be friend, grandparents, aunt etc. Someone else who is authorized to pick up child. Afterschool daycare was involved too.

That was how it was done here, too. We had family friends listed since neither of us has relatives in London. Their son went to the same school so we backed each other up.
 
One of the big differences I noted when we moved back to the town after living on a farm was the lack of kids. In the 70's there was a stream of kids going to and from the schools. Now I rarely see any - just a few passing our house on the way to hop a school bus. What advantage was there to anyone to start running buses when kids used to be capable of walking or riding their bikes? The distance is the same as it was way back when so it can't be too far for them to make their own way. I walked a mile to and from school at five. Some kids took public transport to their school.

The search for pleasure through leisure time ... and in the interim avoiding thought! Void space needs to be filled with abstracts ... sometimes labelled creative thinking!

Thus the hole in our present way of conjuring up advances in civil behaviour! Much falls through it ...

I see many kids walking here. Walk zone is 2.4 km for elementary public. When I was bused, the schools were quite far. Traffic is also to be considered. Some roads aren't even legal for a pedestrian to cross them - like Deerfoot Trail in Calgary or the Anthony Henday in Edmonton. Not even legal to ride a bike on them (I know for Deetfoot anyway). One sometimes has to travel a significant distance to find a pedestrian underpass.
 
Any Thanksgiving plans? NS is supposed to get wind and rain- perfect for a day of sewing. I have made some cranberry apple crisp. Hospital had a turkey dinner on Thursday at lunch time which came with dessert that was quite good. I am starting to think about Christmas parcels- the Germany ones have to go out by Halloween.
I am thankful for this long weekend and hope to be able to get my mind off my caseload, as I have been stressed out by home visits for patients who have quite inaccessible homes and I am expected to make them accessible rather sooner than later so they can be discharged,
 
Little M isn't coming home and we aren't going there nor do we have any dinner invites so it will probably a quiet one at home. Mrs. M was actually away for the holiday last year, due to her mother passing the week before so at least we are together this year.
 
Just read that @GeoFee is playing scrabble by candle light because of a blizzard. Reminded me that I invented power outage days on days without real power outage , for my son, so he would turn the electronics off, we light the candles and do something fun together. Come to think of it, we should have done that more often.
 
Some of Chemguy's family is staying here. We're hosting one dinner for 8, and then going over for dinner another day after Chemguy's family has left. My parents are going to a wedding anniversary, I feel like they haven't been up for a while now. My sister was there recently though, so they saw the kids.
 
I have no idea what, if anything will happen over the weekend. One daughter always spends the 'special' times anywhere she can that doesn't include her original family. This year it will likely be a mix of friends and in laws. One son doesn't do 'gatherings' other than as a drop in as his brain gets tired. One daughter is in the Mediterranean working on a cruise ship. May share a meal at some point with the other son.

What I'd like would be lovely weather and some time in the country with picnic food. Hard to tell what the weather will be like - today we had sunshine and bitter cold wind.
 
Had invite to have dinner on Sunday at daughter's place. Need only bring self, wine, her avocado plant which spent summer on my porch, and some laundry I have here. Have promised old guy a ham dinner on Monday, so will do that as well. Trying to perfect a preserved apple pie filling.
 
We'll be going to my sister's house. Her sister-in-law and family will also be there. It will be nice.
 
We're getting together for Monday supper with friends who live in the middle of Toronto. The Gardiner (big highway - main access to city from here) is closed for the weekend - so probably a 60-80 minute drive coming up!

Tonight we have some other friends coming by for pasta supper, her 65th birthday celebration & a game of some sort - maybe Rummikub which we haven't played for a while. This morning I baked some yummy sourdough rolls for dipping in olive oil & balsamic vinegar - new recipe & seems to have turned out well :-)
 
Am trying to decorate boho-shabby-chic...there's still a lot of unfinished basement in this suite - even though it has all the necessities of an apartment. It's a bit more shabby than chic. But I'm having fun. I can be as eclectic and/ or tacky as I want and no one cares - but it is cheering up the space into more of a "woman cave". :)

I found a bunch of really cheap goodies on-line and at VV. The coffee table was $30 which I thought was a great deal. Refurbished/ repurposed with pieces of a real farm-house table. Painted "distressed" on purpose.
