Tabitha, I am glad your youngest was with you to support you. Although my logical part of my mind always knew it was time to say goodbye to a family pet, my heart sure didn't. Take care of yourself. May the days be gentle.

Son was not there to support me. I asked him to come as technically Willow is his cat. I needed him to participate in the decisions. He said he wasn't sure he wanted to be there at the end, but then decided to. He sat and stroked her-as she lay on his jacket-before they took her away to start the process. Then he sat beside me while Willow received the last drug. He declined to touch her after. He's up in his room-gaming-as is typical for most of his awake hours. We had been talking since the week before Christmas about willow not doing well, and I had encouraged him to spend time with her-and he had.

So sorry to hear of Willow's death ... sad time ...

Sad day in the city today. I had heard some of the news about the murders earlier, but didn't get many details. 2 kids, along with 6 other deaths :(

News details are odd. They are listing who lived at two residences, who was a tenant, who had mortgages, where the mortgage was obtained, assessed value, etc. Some of these people are uninjured as far as I know.

Oh Tabitha, it is such a sad thing to lose a pet cat. They are such wonderful little creatures with their purring and meowing. And maybe stealing the jigsaw puzzle pieces or the Scrabble tiles.

Sending you a virtual prayer shawl for this time.

Tabitha - I'm sorry to learn that your cat has passed away. The loss of a pet is never easy. Your cat was a member of your family. I've lost a number of pets through the years and it has always been difficult. Take good care of yourself and your family through the season of grief that's now upon you.

WE're doing ok here. We saw it coming with Willow over the last month or so-despite hoping for a quick fix with the vet.

The Edmonton news is horrible. I don't like how the official announcements downplay it-saying not gang related JUST domestic violence.

With gang violence, one expects retaliation and more killings. With domestic violence, you presume the shooting is done with the suicide of the murderer. Not that it should be a "just", but there is an important difference in terms of ongoing violence.

I understand the announcement, but words like just shouldn't be used. When people are being killed in multiple locations, some people become quite anxious.

I agree, ChemGal. I didn't hear the word on the CBC news that I was just listening to, or in the police interview it aired, but, I am not surprised that it could have been used.

well, i am getting ready for new years, cleaning up some photo albums, pondering what to get for groceries for tomorrow. I do not know if there will be 3 or 7 for dinner, so goign to cook something that can be good as leftovers.

I hope for anyone doing things that you are safe tonight, and for those at home, that you are warm.

Apparently my city is doing the worst for the number of flu cases in Canada. I keep hearing about Montreal and ON hospitals though, nothing in the news about the hospitals here. I wonder if it's a different strain and people aren't getting as sick here, or if people are just going to the hospital more further East when it's not needed for some reason? Reporting may be the issue too.

It could be what your city considers news.

Home from Dad's having determined that the online voicemail was too much for him so, reverted to his old answering machine and turned off the online feature. Went grocery shopping and took over a healthy vegetables, fruit, meats, and salads to keep him eating well for a few days. He has had company popping in which is nice and appreciated. Even if only for 30min it makes a big difference. This time it was a man who works at the bowling alley. Yesterday, it was a friend from golf who took him out for lunch. I wonder if people realize how much it means to him? Such a gift to be someone who visits the elderly.

ps. nice to have my letter "t" working again. sorry for the poor typing when it was sticking. I had to go back and fix and I know that I missed a number.

Getting ready for New Years Eve, and New Years Day. Unsure yet if my niece will be here with her boyfriend for dinner & a games night, so food is flexible to handle them and possibly their friends visits. Hockey is definitely on the agenda!

Such truth in this pinga - and a reminder for me. I have friend whom I've been meaning to call for some time & will definitely do so today. Thanks for the nudge.

Greetings All!

Just resting after our New Year's meal at noon time today. Ham, baked potatoes, wild rice casserole (with brown rice, wild rice, carrots, celery, red pepper, zuchini, a bit of oil, and some salt, dill, and parsley), onion salad, leftover coleslaw from last night, buns, and cooked carrots. I limited myself to potato, ham, wild rice casserole, and carrots. I did finish my meal off with coconut milk vanilla bean ice-cream and some of my special banana bread. Looking forward to a relaxing afternoon and perhaps an evening of cards and games.

As I look for different and new experiences in 2015 I will have to keep in mind that there are many lonely seniors (and perhaps others) who would appreciate some companionship, because my life will be more meaningful if I make a positive difference in someone else's life. I can tend to keep to myself . . . so for me to do this I will be stepping out of my comfort zone.

Blessings everyone.
