Yikes Kimmio - glad there was somebody to drive you to the hospital & that you felt so well cared for :-)

I had my own bug encounter yesterday - Birthstone & I were visiting on my back deck - enjoying the breezy day & catching up on news. A huge black thing landed around my collar bone - couldn't see it too well - but I brushed it off - turned out to be cicada - and it certainly was HUGE! LOL. Startling more than anything. I surely didn't want it crawling down inside my shirt & it was just at the edge of the neckline!! Ti's the season I guess.

Ack. I've never had one of those land on me but, yeah, they are among the largest bugs in this part of the world. I've seen some that were the biggest insects I've seen outside of the tropics. The only thing I can think of that would be comparable in Southern Ontario would be praying mantises and I haven't seen one of those around here in eons.

Oh you're right - I also have not seen a praying mantis for eons! I have rarely seen a live cicada - although we hear them all the time, and see the 'shells' they leave after moulting.

June bugs are the only things I've seen that bad.

Right now the mosquitoes are absolutely awful, I don't know if I've ever seen them this bad in residential areas before, that's my current bug issue.
As for wasps, I hate it when people start swatting at them. @Kimmio Laughterlove I have heard of some people being allergic to some species and not others so that could explain some of the difference in your reactions.

I found this interest about epinephrine (was checking to see if a prescription was required here - no). I asked 2 doctors about the vials and they both felt it was too dangerous, yet a pharmacist can alter an epipen prescription to the vials

When wasps are in season and attracted when I am bbqing, I will put a small piece of meat near the bbq so that they don’t try to go in and get burned.

There are different types of wasps, and the ones I get seem to appreciate hospitality and are quite friendly.

I have videos of wasps flying away with big chunks of meat they saw off.

I draw the line at them drinking my wine though.

Interesting. was given 2 - two were actually prescribed. They are in boxes and I haven't taken them out of the paper bag or opened the box to read/ see what variety they are, ie standard or Jr. The pharmacist actually did take one out briefly to show me how to use it - it was a pre-filled "pen" (looked like there's short plunger at top, short needle). I'll take a closer look later.

I feel bad if I got them if there's a serious shortage. Some people are extremely allergic to a lot of things and I don't even know for sure if I'll ever need it again.

No need to feel bad IMO. Do take them out of the box & learn how to use them - so if you need them (you'll probably feel rattled at the time) you'll have no issues trying to figure it out. And make note of the expiry date. And them make sure you carry them WITH you at all times!! And you may want to consider also having a medic alert bracelet to let others know you are carrying a pen & that they can use it if needed. Hopefully you will not need to use it tho! Okay, mom chat over! LOL

As far as I know there is no shortage currently. Some of the angioedema groups include both histamine and bradykinin based, so when there's a shortage people are talking about it.

Oh, and the June bug thing - that should be 'big' not bad. I don't think they are a nuisance, certainly not when I've seen them. Wouldn't want one in my house, but if it's outside, not landing on me and not eating my veggies, no issues with it.

Actually, the only problem with them is their larvae. It's one of the grubs can that mess up your lawn.

I covered the initial IV bruise which was pretty red and purple but more solid and oval, with a big bandaid. I took it off a couple of hours ago when I was out with a friend, and thought "Oh I should probably have that looked at. The walk in Doctor said its just the way it settled. The bandaid must've creased and/ or pinched my skin.image.jpeg

Yep, goes to show that applying pressure is actually helpful!

The stripes are parallel with my wrist creases - horizonontal if I am pointing my hand vertically. Vertical if looking at my arm horizontally. Almost looks like a US flag tattoo. The doctor said it'll go away.

How do you mean? After taking the IV out, you mean? I think the nurse did then taped some gauze over it. I replaced that with a bandaid yesterday. Or do you mean while putting the IV in? I'm not sure of her method, my head was turned...but I always get comments that my veins are small and hard to get at.

Right after it's taken out. I've had weird bruises before, as where pressure was applied well there's no bruising or less bruising. Not that it's always preventable, but the pressure does help keep the blood contained in the vein instead of coming out of the new hole into the tissue.
