At least they're there because the people have voted them in.

Not rarely people make bad choices.
A constitutional/parliamentary Monarchy can be way more democratic than a strongly presidential Republic.
Compare the UK (or even Canada)/the Scandinavian countries to Brazil, Argentina or Kazakhstan. Or to the USA.

Better to have leaders elected imho than just accepting them based on what family they're born into.

10 out of the 19 most democratic countries in the world are monarchies.Among the top 5, 4 are monarchies.
But if you prefer your opinion instead of facts, ok. You're on your right.
Over.

Beware. There are norms about humour here too. Sometimes humour that would be allowable on other threads is ruled out of order in the Room.

That's why asses are burned beyond the sunset into horses called Midnight ... just on a haunch ... hunch of beef?

A complaint ...

So, to celebrate the real beginning of spring, I offer the beginnings of a "Room" party:

A salade nicoise, with greens from the back yard, a few olives stuffed with blue cheese, cage-free fresh eggs, some quartered mini potatoes (purple, red and white), a bit of broiled top sirloin, fresh cherry tomatoes, some danish blue cheese, a beautiful homemade vinaigrette featuring real balsamic vinegar and some avocado oil;

- a glass of nice VQA red;

- some of the best artisanal bread in Ontario - a loaf of sprouted grains by Ace Bakery.

And my daughter's here playing her guitar (as she is IRL right below me...).

And pardon me while I go make some syrup for the first hummingbird feeder out for the season - they've been sighted!

The room tonight, is set out with multiple couches , with the fire ready to be lit.
There are 30 youngsters ready to work on the trails around the room tomorrow, and they are enjoying each other's company in the adjacent room.
The moon is out.

We have memories of those who linger on the fringes of the room, who pop in from time to time to say hello.
We welcome them, with the vqa red, some cedar tea also from the bounty of the land.

The guitar music drifts up and fills our souls with joy and longing.

We are blessed to be here.

Holy Ground.
And sacred space amongst friends. Glad to be with you all this evening, as I'm home alone - the house is peaceful, and I've been knitting.

I woke up about 4AM today and couldn't get back to sleep - the birds in my neighbourhood were making SO much pre-dawn noise. I shouldn't call it noise really - it was rather lovely to listen to & try to identify them, but I did want to get back to sleep! I finally got out of bed around 6:30 which is a couple of hours early for me - after breakfast I actually did some knitting for a while ... how strange to be knitting in the morning!! Started a new section of pattern that needed my concentration & it went quite well. Then I went off to work - feeling like it must almost be lunch time!! Left work early & collapsed for a nap ... ahhh ... Friday!!

Thank you Bette for getting this organized. I could use a pick-me-up.
It seems spring is finally here. Shirt-sleeve weather two days this past week. And the snow is melting fast.
Actually too fast! The river rose dramatically yesterday. We went across to the north-side for bowling at 12:30 with water lapping at the sides of the riverfront streets. Coming home at 3:00 - slowly as we zigzagged around avoiding hastily put up barriers to keep us off flooded streets throughout the downtown. We expect bad flooding the next few days.
Keep in mind that I live on a hill, as does Seelergirl. Our church is downtown but far enough back that it was not effected during the last bad flood - an extra foot or two would have made a difference. People are keeping watch.
My these snacks are good.
