Isn't "being creative plus solving problems" what makes humans human?

I love productive, creative effort. I'm sort of missing that right now, flailing around a bit, and settling a bit into a hole. Not so good; will have to work on this.

If so, then octopuses and crows, at minimum, will have to be treated as human, not to mention some other primates. I would say our capacity for abstract thought, to conceive of things outside our experience and to extrapolate from experience to abstract ideas (like God, philosophical ideas, fictional worlds, etc.) is more likely what makes us human. But that's probably a topic for its own thread.

Bette, you are certainly a very creative person. I have met a few uncreative and extremely unable to problem solve patients and relatives, who did not have a visible disability that could explain the total lack of those skills. So I wouldn't deny those people being human....( it's just really painful to work with them). But in general, creativity, empathy, abilty to communicate are likely the traits to form humanity.

Took 3 of the neighbour kids on a loop bike ride. 1/2 on quiet street 1/2 on path-ages 4-7. Easy peasy 15 minutes right? Not!After the road we rested on the bridge over the creek. (pedestrian bridge). The oldest lost his shoe into the creek. He raced down the bank and I had the 5 year old watch the bikes and 4 year old as I scrambled down the bank too.
Glad I was in velcro sandals not bike shoes. He stayed on bank watching and I wade in and upstream and caught the shoe.
All was well and we had a fast, but controlled, ride home on the path!
They brought over some thank you cookies.

Make the kid do it.

Did a 40k Enduro mountain bike race on Saturday. Didn't really train for it. Course was tough. Legs were screaming at me. Loved it.

Claire volunteered at the aid station we hit at 12 and 29k. First time through, she was too busy filling water cups to talk to me. It was great to see her so keen and on task.

At 29k, I wanted to just stay there and die. The aid station people shooed me away. Some "aid".

I saw a person with an original Trump cap today. While it was interesting to see the original ( there was a "Donald" embroidered on the rim of the cap) , I did not find it funny. That person tends to wear t shirts with funny prints on it. He is Canadian.
Are those caps going to have any collectors value after four years?

Back from a trip to see friends, family and enjoy a beautiful wedding. This outdoor fall wedding was a hot day (30 degrees, I think), hotter than my daughter's in August. Like everyone around here says: Finally, we are getting summer.

I am tired tonight.

Don't want to go into details, but, it was a tough day. It had to do with volunteer items, not work, not family.

Much of it has to do with change and communication , and touches on entitlement / ownership.
I am reminded of the message from the Shirelles

EDIT: Then I read the actual lyrics, rather than the chorus, and so..let me say, only the chorus applies.

SO....I will go with my standard on a day like this one

Had a good day today ... made even better by a visit with my nephew who I have not seen for a few years. He & his gf and her child (soon to be 4), and child's little friend all drove about 90 minutes to have lunch with us Drumheller. It was good to give him a big hug (he's the youngest son of my brother who died a while ago) and meet the special people in his life. he looks healthy & happy. After lunch my mate & I went to the Royal Tyrell Museum - dinosaurs galore! It is a fabulous museum & so interesting to think these very specimens were roaming this very area only about 70 million years ago! Somehow I tend to think dinosaurs come from somewhere else in the world - not our very own country.

Tomorrow we are off to Saskatoon to finish up our two week prairie sojourn - it's been wonderful. Big thanks to those of you here who helped with ideas and feedback for the planning.

One of my favourite exihibits in the Drumheller museum is the Burgess Shale exhibit. I have been fortunate to go up to the actual Burgess Shale (only open on escorted trips). The shale is by Kicking horse or Emerald Lake in BC.

I do hear of local-ish dinosaur discoveries from time to time.

Hopefully it won't drag over into the weekend and you can recharge for a few days.

True.
I am headed to visit my sister, flying out Friday night for the weekend, then driving south to work, then back up to her house for more visiting, before flying home the following sunday. Lots to be positive about, just really not happy with the things said to me today.

Pinga - words hurt. Often more than 'sticks and stones'; and they are harder to heal from. :( Sometimes all we can do is move on, as I am sure you will. You have a busy weekend planned. But then, when are you not busy?

At last in NB it is fall. (sometime today autumn will arrive around the world ) But overnight in NB the weather changed from 'hot and muggy' to a reasonable expected high of 21 with the humidity below 50%. I've managed to get through another summer! Let us rejoice and be glad!

This week Seeleerman, with a bit of help from me, has been making hot pepper jelly. First batch on Monday turned out beautifully. Second batch yesterday didn't jell. Same recipe except for two drops of red food colouring and a few seeds (in a gauze bag, removed before bottling) to give it kick. Didn't jell. We will reboil and rebottle today.

We're into fall activities. Last evening the first fall meeting of the Parkinsons' Support Group. Tonight, square dancing. Tomorrow, bowling. It's good to have things to look forward to.
