My son flew to PEI (Charlottetown) and then drove to Sommerset (sp) for meetings.

He will be home Sat late. He sent me a short note to say he arrived. Impressed already with the

scenery.but not enough time. lol

Had a good day today ... made even better by a visit with my nephew who I have not seen for a few years. He & his gf and her child (soon to be 4), and child's little friend all drove about 90 minutes to have lunch with us Drumheller. It was good to give him a big hug (he's the youngest son of my brother who died a while ago) and meet the special people in his life. he looks healthy & happy. After lunch my mate & I went to the Royal Tyrell Museum - dinosaurs galore! It is a fabulous museum & so interesting to think these very specimens were roaming this very area only about 70 million years ago! Somehow I tend to think dinosaurs come from somewhere else in the world - not our very own country.

I was there just a few weeks ago (second visit) with my husband who had never been. It's a great museum!
I'm sorry that your travels didn't bring you farther south. Though this is not really a great year for southern Alberta; you wouldn't be seeing us at our best.
Safe travels!

I will have to catch you on another trip Hilary! Have you been badly affected by smoke from the Waterton fire? We encountered it, and smoke in other places too. We'd hoped to do some hiking at Cypress Hills, but it was totally shut down due to "beyond extreme" fire hazard. Tough summer for so many.

Yes tough summer for much of BC. The state of emergency-due to the fires-was lifted this weeks. The sprinkling of rain and snow has certianly decreased the smoke and is helping with fire control. All the fires aren't truly out yet but they are managed.

I visited Drumhelleer dinosaaur musium twice - years apart. Very impressive. Huge place for huge animals. T-Rex -WOW!

This year we visited the Joggins fossil site in Nova Scotia. Lots of fossils, much older than the dinosaurs, being exposed by the tides pounding against the cliffs at high tides during storms and spring tides. But these fossils are small and mainly fragments. Interesting, but admittedly not as impressive as Drumheller.

Hue edged things are fascinating ... like the cosmological mind ... that's out there extensively! Explicitly larger than what's implicit? Some adjustment ofde Set may be required ...

We're about 1.5 hours northeast of the park. We had smoke for weeks leading up to the days when the fire reached the townsite (Sept 11-14ish). The whole city smelled like a campfire and you couldn't sleep with the windows open. My husband typically walks to work and couldn't because the air quality index was so high. But once the fire reached Waterton townsite and was expertly repelled by fire crews, the smoke completely disappeared from Lethbridge. There are Rockies and forest to the west and flat plains to the east, so I guess the fire thought it would live longer heading west which spared us. A lot of smaller towns (and a Reserve) were then on evacuation alert but even that seems to have corrected itself now.
I'm anxious to get the Waterton now that the town is reopened for visitors (after being opened on a limit basis to home and business owners first) to see it all for myself. Waterton is the reason I moved to Alberta in the first place and it's such a big part of so many aspects of my life.

(ETA: The United Church of Canada runs a camp in the park which was not protected by the structural fire crews who were assigned to the town because of their location deep in the woods. We've just found out that they suffered substantial damage, but the main lodge was spared. Please check out Canyon Church Camp: www.canyonchurchcamp.com/ ; I'm sure I'll be involved in fundraising and rebuilding when the time comes.)

As part of my job, I often have to have a particular type of visa as I travel to the US to work.
I have had various ones for the last 20 years or so.
Got one 6 months ago.
Went to get the extension on that visa today. There was a difference of opinion on if it was an extension, as the old one ended nd the new one started the day after. There was challenges due to the quality of paperwork (though similair paperwork was delivered last time). They also did not accept my qualifications.

So, instead of meeting commitments and travelling this week, and visiting my sister on the bookend weekends, I am sitting at home.

I am grumpy.

I despise this stuff. I get it. What I don't get is the idea that I am good one day, and not the next.

So, I also have a business class ticket that is now sitting in my file, and I have expenses that I incurred, and i don't get to see my family.

I am really grumpy.

Inconsistency drives me batty. I obey the rules. I comply. So how is it enough one day and not the next so I totally get your frustration although I can't know it in this case. I am so sorry that you miss out on an incredible family opportunity. Grrr. Can it be fixed early next week so you can perhaps salvage part of the week and one weekend?

My group had visa problems in India. Most of us were there on tourist visas. 4 students were there on "Intern" visas. Of the 4 -who all apllied for visas at the same place and time and from the same university 2 visas were good until Sept. 30th and 2 expired Aug. 30th. Two visits to 2 different official offices-with well respected Nationals did no good. Apparently the visas could not be extended (contrary to what the students had been told). And so 3 students left India-cancelling their sight seeing tour and spent several weeks in Germany. One student stayed and travelled with the other 2 students and met the 3 in Germany.

Now Pinga you could go visit family -just not on a working trip. It is frustrating.

Sorry it's been a rough week Pinga. Anything fun you can do to make up for the weekends that were supposed to be spend with your sister?

Yes, @Tabitha , I could, and I did ask, could I continue through and at least go visit my sister. I was told no.

re question: I will spend the time to get the information to the level that that agent wants, in case I reencounter him, and/or discuss with a lawyer to ensure I and my advisors understand the processes correctly.

Ugh so no fun. Sorry Pinga. Hopefully will be easy to resolve.

I have a bit of OCD. Last minute changes in plans drive me crazy. I can imagine how Pinga is feeling; but I know Pinga is a professional and will handle this hurdle as she has all the others that pop up in a business day.
Today will be a busy day for me. We leave for a week long vacation/family visit trip in Ontario at day-break tomorrow morning. And there is laundry to do, packing, meds to sort, people to contact, odds and ends.
So here I sit at my computer, sipping coffee, and procastinating. (sp)
Today (like yesterday) is a perfect day - I couldn't order any better. Sun shine, clear blue skies, whispy clouds, slight breeze. Low last night of 5 degrees C - I woke at 4:30 this morning and pulled my quilt up over the sheet and slept until 6:15. High today will be 26 but the humidity will be under 40 so that's liveable.
I hope for good weather in OT next week.

Oh bad apples ... they fall not far from the tree ... some say best to avoid the tree as that's just how it is ... sour knowledge? Tis inconsistent regardless of the constitution ...

Even Buddha saw this a looking out from under ... a subtle state ...

If you stand back and look you can watch everything decay ... just for the empiric of life ... to make room for learning the next stage --- Shakespeare?

Jeopardy question this week: Which state changed its official abbreviation because it was often confused with a Canadian province?

Answer: Nebraska changed its abbreviation from NB to NE due to confusion with New Brunswick.
