My kids couldn't find very diverse friends, culturally (because there aren't very many, even now). They settled for taking on the economically and gender/orientation diverse.

We are fortunate to have landed in a very ethnically diverse part of London. On our own street we have Lebanese, Korean, Chinese, South Asian, and probably others I don't know about along with the usual anglo-Canadians. And, of course, we ourselves are mixed.

Economically diverse? Not so much. It is a middle class neighbourhood with lots of professionals and academics. Some of the kids at Little M's school drive Bimmers (not the parents, the kids).

Since moving here even our immediate neighbours have been fairly diverse. 4 different households, I would guess 5 different backgrounds. We're not in a particular 'ethnic' area of the city either - although that may lead to more diversity?

The thread on rhyming words seems to have been buried. Just when I remember once I was trying to write of poem (not my forte) and I needed a word to go with 'island'. Can anyone provide a list of words rhyming with 'island'. It seems to me it might be as hard as finding some for 'orange'.

Highland is the only single word that comes immediately to mind but something else may come up.

You could try using something like "my land". It's not one word but it is still two syllables so it might break rhythm too much and sounds roughly the same as "island".

I once lived on a little island
A tiny place that served as my land.

Depends on how many syllables of rhyming you want. For one it's easy - and, hand, band, banned, fanned, tanned, maned, sand.

The problem with rhyming "island" is that in many English dialects, folks tend to say "eye-lund" instead of "eye-land" so many of those may or may not work. Even my suggestion of "my land" only works if you use poetic license and mispronounce "land" as "lund" or pronounce island as "eye-land". In dialects that actually do say "eye-land", then hand, band, etc. do work.

Everyone I know pronounces it eye-lund, so you understand my problem.
As I recall, I ended up just using 'isle'. I'm not good at poetry.

sunned, rotund, stunned, gunned, fund

I mostly hear people pronounce it eye-lind (lind rhyming with pinned).

Yeah, I normally hear either eye-lund or eye-lind.

Isle is more poetic anyhow.

On a fair isle
I first saw her smile
And tarried there
A little while.

Glad to see you guys are here having fun. It has been getting a little intense around here lately.

I went to Knitting Group at church this afternoon. I was the only one actually doing any knitting. Go figure.

I missed a meeting. It flew out of my mind and I didn't open my planner-where it was written. I remembered in time to hit the debriefing. It's for a kid enrolling in Sept. so all will be well but still that's not like me.
I DID go to watch my student this am who is doing a fine job.

I think it was stress related so I have booked a talk with my minister to go over some of that(the 2 deaths and a friend with mental health issues)

For sure - we get overloaded sometimes with the stuff of life. I've missed meetings too - and even once a social gathering that I was really looking forward to! Glad you have a meeting to chat about this Tab.

My life with Dad has been challenging of late. Found out today that some meds have been given at night, but, I know those meds are a challenge to his stability, so...trying to see if there is a correlation to behavioral issues and the meds.
Life is never simple, is it? Found out as they want to give the meds every night now.. and I get it. Thankful that I was able to move up an appointment.
