@Carolla -- CodeNames was our go-to game for most of the summer. Most nights would end with one or two tables playing codenames, big teams, lots of laughs.

Had a tournament, where you played with your team. Our team won. I find that there are some people who "get" my clues. Others do not. I tend to form a story with the words, i think. I have an image, and i relate them with a word.

You will understand the concept of the assassin card. There were two tables playing CodeNames. One was very serious. Ours was intent at playing, but, it is a game. One person came from the other table, and was surprised when someone tripped the assassin card, our table broke out in howls as we discussed the logic of the clue and the selection. It is important to know the rules by which people play both from game but also the social type rules.

There is also codename pictures which is good if you have people for whom English is not their primary language or struggle with written words.
Anyhow, absolutely, one of my favourite games, still.

Skiing is too warm today. Snow is waterlogged and slow. Especially in the sun. And you can't stay in the shade all run.

No Mendalla here today, but some fun racing with teenagers, showing them us old guys can still move.

There is a wonderful deck at the club, and the bar has a serving window to the deck. I think I may find my way there in the afternoon.

Is there a story behind the beanie, @Carolla?

I am knitting a blanket with bulky yarn right now. Simplest pattern ever:

Row 1: P1 (K1 P1) to end
Row 2: K to end

With a garter stitch border.

Knitting seems like a great hobby, not that I can knit. My mom enjoys it, as do my sisters. One of my sisters is currently knitting for me my own black pussyhat.

Knitting is meditative and relaxing for me. I am a very basic knitter so I stick with throws, scarves, etc. And dishcloths, too. Being so small, they are very portable for car trips, waiting in the doctor's office and so on.

Carolla -- your games night sounds wonderful, especially the unique location. I look forward to my once-a-month Canasta night with 3 friends. Three of us are retired so we have erratic schedules. Which means, after much e-mailing back and forth we finally came up with one night in February that would work for all 4 of us. Seems like lots of people do the Pinga retirement thing...keep very, very busy! But it's better than sitting around, that's for sure.

Yes - kinda. For Xmas my son gifted me a beautiful box of yarns & some needles from a store called PassionKnit - on Yonge St near Lawrence. It was very thoughtful, as he sees me knitting so much. However, not knowing anything about knitting, he & gf chose single skeins of about half a dozen beautiful yarns. Well, it's hard to knit anything from one skein! I sought some patterns on Ravelry & made a hat for myself & beanie for my husband, which he LOVES :-) His friend apparently loves it too & wants one ... since he lives near the store, he's meeting us there to choose his yarn. So I will also be exchanging several skeins & the needles for y- arn to make a couple of beautiful cowls - they have a bit of 'lace' border - which is new for me, but I feel ready to take on a new challenge!

Your blanket sounds great! What colour is it?

We do a 'schedule' in Aug/Sept usually - generally we gather the 3rd Friday of the month but sometimes it varies - Good Friday, March break etc. It gets put on the calendar, along with who's hosting & then people mostly plan around it. We have a few 'subs' who like to join us when somebody is away. We have 8 (2 tables) in our group - so it would be too hectic trying to arrange it every month!

I tried to do what Carolla had, but it was hard to get up to the 8 committed folks. Board Game Cafe has worked well for me as an alternative.
The wine night worked well
The gathering for community worked well with a theme of game and/or drink.
I love Carolla's group, though.

@Carolla You can make several of those little prayer squares with one skein but I don't know what else. Is the yarn wool or acrylic? I have found wool or cotton works best for the prayer squares.

The blanket is a mix of pastel tones. It is working up quite quickly with the bulky yarn. I am using a circular 8mm. needle. Probably could have gone larger but I like the way it looks so far.

Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse anyone. I thought the deletion was clear, next time I won't just delete the entire post.
I like codenames, pretty simple to figure out how to play. Chemguy and some of his friends are into playing lots of games with complex rules. I get a bit tired of it, I prefer not to spend so much time going over how to play the game!

That would be great, ChemGal.

It is coming late to a thread where the confusion comes in. Comments about posts which have been deleted make little sense if these posts have vanished without a trace.

Your blanket sounds awesome P3! The yarns are not synthetic - one is baby alpaca & silk; others are hand-dyed wool ... I must say I was shocked when he gave me the receipt so I could exchange some. They are from two brand lines - Mirasol and Malibrigo - in beautiful colours. The price of the skeins is many times beyond what I would even look at! But that makes for a good gift doesn't it - something one might not buy oneself?

My baby sister, who is a bit of a local knitting guru, gets all excited about these uber fancy yarns; I've got a lovely combination of two unique ones in the "shrug" she designed and knit me for Christmas. Fortunately, her other favourite knitting hobby, for the last 5 years or so, is socks, which use limited yardage compared to sweaters or blankets.

Knitting is one of the activities I gave up a few years ago when I started having problems coordinating my hands. Right hand worked at normal speed; left hand slow and clumsey and/or shaking or jerking.
I enjoyed knitting mittens, scarfs, afghans, baby clothes, nordic-style sweaters. I never felt that I was idly wasting time watching TV if I was knitting. I also found it companionable when my neighbour and would visit and knit - and when I taught my teenage daughter.
At one time Seelerman wanted to learn. He eventually knit himself a patterned toque; then stopped knitting. He just wanted to know that he could do it.

Annual meeting after church tomorrow. We have some BIG decisions to make.

I appreciated the vanishing.
And really, after that comment, you're the one I'm most interested in making happy. And that's why I'm not unhappy at what Chemgal did.

Personally, I don't want posts aimed at me deleted, but if they have to be, I appreciate that it's not just my replies that get deleted. What we have here is a much more fair and equitable group of moderators than we had at the original site. And really, better than most any site I've come across.

Went to get new glasses today. Last time I gave the " second pair is free" to someone who could not afford glasses, but this time I need reading glasses besides my bifocals. Felt a bit selfish. But Insurance only pays every 4 years now and I have been waiting several month now for the time to come. Appreciating jobs with health benefits. At work,so often have to find donations for people who do not have any.
Went to a closing sale of a pottery and bought two nice pieces for half price. I would love to learn working on a pottery wheel. It must be so relaxing.
Shoveled my heat pump outof three feet of snow. We had 72 cm on Monday and another 20 on Wendnesday.
