A lecture? How insensitive. It's easy to say when I'm not in the situation, but I think I would have walked away. Good for you to keep your perspective Pinga; hope you catch up on the sleep tonight.

waterfall, I had melanoma over 12 years ago. A "new" mole on my back. It was removed in the dermatologoloists office. Edges were not clear so a plastic surgeon took a bigger hunk off my back (they closed it with a flap leaving a Z shaped scar. I also had sentinenl node biopsy for my underarm lymph nodes. They injected radioactive dye near melonoma and then removed the lymph nodes the dye went too. Nodes came back clear. I have needed no further treatment. It can be a nasty disease.

Did you require a skin graft for the flap? I was told it didn't go very deep...which is good. Hard to see things growing on your back and it was my better half that noticed it getting darker.

It was a lift and twists flap-no donor skin.
Pinga yes I found it myself-in the full length mirror I had. My GP noticed it just as I was going to say "look at that one would you?". It was 2 coloured.

Must be my age, I hear a lot more melanoma diagnoses these days.

Remember a conversation with a contractor in us. She was maybe 30 . Couldn't get Healthcare before Obama due to a melanoma diagnosis in her early 20's

It's more likely because it shows up around 25 years after baking in the sun as teenagers. I am fair but I still pursued the "tan" when I was younger by mixing baby oil and iodine and practically lived on the beach.

I was a big freckle faced kid from the sun .... my dad was a redhead ... need I say more? Constantly burning as a kid - sunscreens weren't up to much in those days. Swimming with a T shirt on - so embarassing - hated my mom for that. So far just 'sun damage' brown spots on my face; I do see a dermatologist annually for a "once over" with her magnifying glass!!

It was lovely in S. Ont today. Thankful for the cooler weather.
It felt like a very long day today. Waiting for some things to happen which didn't happen and might not. Breaking news to my father that he wasn't going anywhere as he said goodbye to his 86year old roommate who got to go home.
some days suck.

I did the baby oil and tanning on a raft on the lake. Lots of sunburns as a baby and child too. Other risk factors are skin type, number of freckles and instances of it in your family.

Melanoma is a very serious form of skin cancer. If it was present in my lymph nodes life expectancy was 9 months with or without further treatment.

I have had a friend who was initially fine and then 4 years later it metastasized into his brain. I'm ever vigilant and have no effects at all.

I worry about skin cancer in the kinda nagging thought but not doing much about it.
My sister is a red head but I burn faster than she does. I'm fair but don't freckle. Never did the baby oil or tanning salon. I do have some other risk factors though like skin conditions - but not certain on the type of cancer with those. Added issue is skin sensitivities and sunscreen plus the sun sometimes helping skin issues. I do have scars from a bad sunburn as a child on my shoulders - and I was wearing sunscreen!

With my dislike of being hot, I never tried to 'get a good tan' like many people my age. I remember when I was in Teachers' College, going with my roommates down to The Green by the river to study (translation - to meet the boys) and hoping they would sit somewhere near a tree so that I could keep my head and torso in the shade while tanning my legs and still be part of the group.
I did tan. I was an outdoor girl -- hiking, picking berries, gardening, playing soft ball, biking. But it was a gradual tan on a moving body that was often in shade or partial shade. I preferred hiking on wooded paths. I only remember having a slight burn a couple of times, usually in the early summer.

I was the freckled face kid. I did burn, but, I was a bookworm. Preferred being inside a lot. I have had two bad burns in my life typically when unprepared: on a boat, and walking home from a beach. . My family gets skin cancer, memories of my great uncles surgeries and then my dad, so we tended to be cautious. No melanomas so far, thankfully.

Supposedly my lymph nodes are unaffected BUT what sort of things do you do in your vigilance?

I visually check my body in the mirror. I ask Dr. to check anything I worry about.
For several years after I always had oil of olay on to go (not so much now). I avoid burning and have several "sunshirts' That's it. I eat well and enjoy life

I need to become more vigilant about such things. When I was a kid, I got a legitimate farmer's tan from driving the tractor in the fields much of the summer. I turned brown, brown, brown and my hair became blonde, blonde, blonde.

I was darker than the neighbourhood blacks when born ... perhaps a child born in elle ... a broadly brightened spot ... a great place to have been in? And so genre goes as an essence of what was ... the spirit of messing about ...
