@KayTheCurler , I am sorry for sitting quietly in the room. I am sad. I am sad for the 50 lives snuffed out this morning by a madman. I am sad for all the people who identify as LGBTQ. all those who were close to the scene, all those who love those who were killed. I am sad for the people who are aware of the impact of hate / fear on those with mental instabilities, and those who live with fear of their own mental states. I am sad for those who identify as Islamists, who live in love and peace, who work for Affirm, or even struggle with the concept of LGBT and their face.
I am sad.
I am also fearful of the hate that will follow, as people like Trump use it as lobby.

It was a huge and horrible contrast to one of the reasons I wasn't around yesterday for the Wondergathering - our City's Pride Parade, which was a large and colourful affair (not large in contrast to Toronto's but a respectable 10 or so 'floats', more than 500 marchers), culminating in a festival in waterfront park, and a lovely evolution from the first Pride celebrations I attended in the early 90s...a little parade around a tiny city park, followed by a potluck picnic.
I pray that the Americans will, one day, embrace some sort of sensible gun control. God knows, Barack Obama did try to make a start on it. Wonder if Hilary will try to keep up the momentum.

The shooter bought his Glock pistol legally, so one hopes that might feed the gun control fire. I notice that retired US Army General Mark Petraeus is part of a new gun control lobby group that also includes astronaut Mark Kelly (husband of the Arizona congresswoman who was shot a few years ago) and other ex-military types. When your ex-soldiers, who probably know their way around a gun better than most, start lobbying for gun control, you'd hope someone would listen.

Some people believe the children of knowing the other ... is something to be snuffed out without respect of the wisdom of the other ... thus mentally we are confined, enslaved by naïveté ... the way the patriarchy or Rome and King James believes we should be conserved and preserved ... thoughtless about what the great worldly powers do ...
Thus the tremendous desire to love them to death ... tis just an expression fools carry on with ... some adept of information and understanding may assist ...
Finally ... it may be healthy to have a healthy respite from this world ... a slight departure that may seen vast to the entrained by the foolish isolated desires to control something beyond that ... avarice (of the other kind; not here and now as recessive genes, Jinns)?

Praying for the people most affected by this massacre, worrying about how Trump will use this to his advantage, and going on with my life. Yesterday I met with the committee planning our Affirming celebration - discussing signage both inside and outside the church to let people know who we are, banners and pulpit cloth in a rainbow of colours, reception after the service. And which symbols and decorations will be just for the celebration and then brought out occasionally (like during Pride Week) and which will be permanent (like the Affirming symbol on our outside lighted sign (apparently its called a Wayside Pulpit)). One of our members, who happens to be a lesbian) pointed out that the last two years of working through the process to become Affirming has been the result of 20 years of work, and it is not over by simply having a celebration. We will still have a lot of work to do.

Nor does the work of living in relationship end with the wedding. Milestones can be celebrated joyfully and still acknowledge the work still to come. IOW, don't let this rain on the parade or turn it from a joyous celebration of a milestone to a somber reflection.
