Today the tree trimmers showed up at our place. They backed their truck up between our house and our neighbours and put up a man in a bucket. He took down a large poplar tree that was close to the live electric wires - cutting off branches and dropping them to the ground crew, carefully avoiding our shed. Then he cut down the bare trunk in sections until it could be cut safely from the ground. Then they took down several other trees and overhanging branches.
Seelerman and I sat on the deck and watched. Quite fascinating to see the skill and professionalism of these men. They've been working long hours this month.
Our back yard is still surrounded by trees, but with some of the high ones gone, and other thick branches trimmed away, it is a lot brighter.
Thanks guys!

Did they have some kind of wood chipper for all the branches and leaves, etc.? Or did everything have to be hauled away, seeler?

They left the big wood for us and pulled the branches out to the side of the road where a chipper will be along in a few days disposing of everyone's clean-up after the storm.
Their clean-up was not perfect - but I think they did a good job considering the pressure they are under to get the electric power lines cleared before the next storm. We don't like power outages.

Ugh, I get annoyed by some clinics. Get Voice Mail!!! I tried calling a clinic for 20 min, just the busy signal. Finally got through, stated why I was calling asked to hold. Same person comes back, asks why I'm calling, tell her again. She can't find any information even though the doctor called me yesterday when I was at another appointment. He asked me to call this morning or friday.

Welcome One Voice! You've come to the right place if you're looking to unload flowers and berries! We love to share beautiful and delicious things in the Room.
This morning, I'm snacking on my version of chocolate covered almonds. I'm allergic to chocolate, so I buy carob chips at Bulk Barn and add some to my dish of almonds on my desk. I get an almond and a couple of chips in each bite... it's aaaaaalmost like the real thing. I think that blueberries would be a perfect addition!

Welcome, also, One Voice! What a wonderful gift - flowers and blueberries. Couldn't be more perfect to share when meeting new friends. Are you enjoying wondercafe2 so far? How has your summer been so far? Looking forward to getting to know you.

Hi Hilary - every time I see your "mustache" avatar, I get quite a chuckle. How are you? How is your summer?

I'm glad you like my moustachio! I think it's such a silly picture and I'm happy that it makes others smile too.

My summer has been wonderfully busy which also means that it's going so FAST! My parents are visiting from ON for the week, so we're doing lots of touristy stuff and eating out. I'll have to get back on track with exercise and eating habits after they're gone. But for now, it's almost like I'm on vacation too!

Enjoy their visit, and the few treats you will have. You will get back at it, and be ready to do so after a short break.

This made me laugh because we lived in Banff for 3 years and the only time we saw anything was when we had company.

hello and welcome.

Today is a pamper day for me. I'm going to go get a new pedicure, and my hair done. I'll pop into the office for a few hours mid day, but, most of it, I will be not working. I hope to finish reading a novel as well!

Do people have anything planned for the long weekend?

A place to down-load --- I'm sorry to burden people I have learned to think of as friends with my problems.

My daughter and her man both work for the same company. It has been a remarkably good company to work for -- Seelergirl has been there almost since this branch opened eight years ago. Yesterday half the staff were laid off. They are both in the middle of a project and will have their jobs a little longer, but the branch in this province will be closed.

I am sorry, Seeler. Is there an expectation of a good serverance? Many folks in my line of work have come out ahead in those situations, getting a good severance, being aware of what their last day will be, and being able to strategize to walk into a new job the day after they leave the last.

It is a trying time for all, full of worries and also good-byes. Going through one of those in our organization right now. Hoping that they are able to find their way through the chaos to something good.

Oh my goodness, seeler . . . not good news for daughter and partner! I hope things in their future turn out well for them. For both to be facing losing their jobs is an extremely tough situation. Other employment around at all for them when the time comes?

Pedicure sounds great, Pinga!

Plans for me . . . do some work around the cottage. Cloudy morning and a bit of rain right now. Having company on Sunday for supper. Attend a funeral. Attend church on Sunday. Take daughter back to her house Monday. It will go by quickly.

I think it is too early to know what is going to happen. I'm just sure that it is going to be another time of transition. Seelergirl (and her kids) have gone through a lot these last five years. What more are they going to have to bear?

We never know what the future might bring . . . we consider ourselves fortunate when the good outweighs the bad.

So sorry to hear, Seeler. We worry about our kids, no matter how old they are, don't we? I've been praying that my oldest son hears something good in the job department. He was laid off from a construction job where he worked as a rough carpenter. He's been trying to get on with a trade union -- tried 3 different ones with no luck. He's smart, a good worker, and the pundits say we need more trades people. I think I'm going to suggest he go back to school.

And Seeler...we care, so your woes are not a burden.

Seeler, sorry to hear that. Hopefully the project goes on long enough that they can both get some good plans in place before it's over.

Nancy, that surprises me! Does he have a diploma/certificate? If not, schooling may be the way to go.
