Crazy wind here too - was going to go for a bird walk this morning, but seemed not to be a good day to be wandering in the woods. I always remember Penny's post from orig WC when her cousin was badly injured by a falling tree limb while on a hike in the woods. Happens.
The sign at the Days Inn down by White Oaks Mall blew over. No injuries but that could have been nasty. Now in addition to a "Special Weather Statement" about the wind, we've also got a frost advisory.

And I got my appointment bumped up. Some new slots opened up a couple days earlier than I originally booked so I took one of those and cancelled the first one.

Is anyone else getting strong winds today (besides the one or two who I know aren't far from me)? Sounds like an f-ing hurricane out there. Neighbour had to rescue my blue boxes and trash can.
House shook badly for a few minutes from the wind, it was storm levels without any storm, is about 20C and sunny,.

Not worth it's own thread, but anyone paying attention to the Duggar stuff? Josh has been arrested - child porn,.
I feel bad for Anna, she always came across as very sweet and I think she's stuck in a cycle of abuse. Her parents went with the courtship and marriage, knowing Josh molested some of his sisters (and another child). When he was caught cheating, they encouraged her to stay. Now she's pregnant, has a bunch of kids at home and if he gets bail he can't be in the home with kids.

If she left I think Amy and Jill would support her, hopefully some of her bio siblings too.

Windy here too though it is slightly calmer. Man, wind makes things cold!

I hope everyone has a good weekend, that the power stays on for all

hubby and I are going through a retro tv viewing phase. We are rewatching TheMary Tyler Moore show, The Sopranos, Downton Abby, Chef. All shows we have. Seen before. Thinking maybe we are just too psyched out with all the news to broach any new show

I'm not surprised. I wouldn't be surprised if there's more sex abuse and perversion in that family. It has the ingredients for it.

Yeah, I hope more of them can get out. Jill seems to be doing well with having some boundaries up, but I suspect she's also dealing with a lot of confusion in terms of who she is.

A tree went down right across the street from us. We might be able to get out of our driveway with careful manoeuvring. Neighbor is completely stuck until it gets cleared up. The wind is fierce.

The wind sounded like a transport truck from around 3pm. Said gusts to 70kmh.

Lost power just after dinner, before coffee, so around 6pm
Said 570 homes were impacted in our rural area and predicted outage until 9:30

Thankful for crew who had it on by 7:15

High winds here. Nothing out. Dog wasn't too interested in a walk. We're just hunkering down and waiting for spring.

We're enjoying a last fire with our neighbours before they head back towards Alberta tomorrow. It's a lovely evening for a fire

Good Morning! As we have survived the wind, and begin to deal with fallen limbs/ trees/ etc, let us pause for a few moments around the coffee cart to start the day off. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, and more for your pleasure.

I wonder @JayneWonders? Are you on town water or a well? If a well and sump pump system, you should invest in an automatic start generator. We have had numerous times over the years where the power goes out, which means no water from the well and the basement starts flooding from the sump pump shut off

looks like a break from the rain today. Sunny out there now

We don't have a sump pump, but are on a well. Our house is built near the top of a hill. Our lowest level is a walkout at the front. Fairly high and dry.

We have talked about a generator. Thanks for the tip

Nice your basement level is dry. The water table is high here so all houses have sumo pumps

but yes, if you don’t have a automatic generator and the power goes out for significant time you won’t have any water. A few hours , no one cares. All day is a different thing. We had power go out one Christmas. Woke with no water. Luckily power did come on by afternoon. That spurred us together a generator. I think they run about $5000 to get your house on automatic start up

also, you can get water test bottles, fro health unit or from town hall to check your well water every year. For contaminants

Yes, we do the testing.

We have water in containers "just-in-case". Also, if a big storm is predicted, I put water in the upstairs bath!

We have gas cooking stove, and a wood burning cast stove in the kitchen area

At the cottage, whenever there was a possibility of power outage (high winds, storm warnings, rumbles of thunder) we would fill up a few buckets & pans with water to tide us over until the well pump would start working again. No sump pump, so that was not a worry.

One spring power went out. Unfinished basement flooded in a couple of hours. At least two feet of water. Burned out the furnace resulting in new furnace, new water pump, couple of new sump pumps. So now we are prepared

but yes I usd to keep large bottles of water too and in the non winter seasons we were able to flush toilets with buckets of pond water. But peace of mind with the generator

Good morning. Friends are leaving the park here and returning to their summer places. Today may be an organizing day for me.

I've brought in a birthday cake to celebrate @BethAnne on her special day. As this is a virtual cake it is your favourite.

Happy Birthday GIF
