@Mrs.Anteater - hope your sister heals well.
I haven’t heard yet. As of Thursday morning she was all done but somewhat shaken, because they didn’t give her anything for her anxiety - and she has normally big issues with that,- to be able to watch her reactions in case of a stroke?
I will call on the weekend if there isn’t another email going out soon.

Went for a great walk this morning along the lake with my young friend who is an outdoor educator :) We both took our binoculars and admired the numerous waterfowl that grace our Lake Ontario waterfront. Saw some longtailed ducks, golden eye, of course lots of mallards & buffleheads, and the ubiquitous Canada geese & gulls. It was a beautiful morning in the sunshine.

The Crown Royal bags were our marble bags growing up. It took many years for me to come to the realization that they were re-purposed bags. My sister was just talking about a whisky from Japan that she tried once, and now she is scheming to eventually have a bottle delivered to her by friends of a friend who live in Japan.

Love these things that come with things. Just broke the second last of my Kraken shot glasses. Preparing spiced rum & eggnog, @PG-13. If you knew my last name, I am basically "child of Kraken"...

Japanese whisky, eh. Interesting. The Chinese have some interesting alcohol (Maotai for the win, assuming you survive the experience. The stuff ranges between 76 and 106 proof and has a very strong flavour) but I don't recall any whiskeys. They have a wine-growing region now, though.

Good morning! Happy Saturday! Lat us set down our bags from Crown Royal (Not to be confused with Royal Crown, which is a different sort of beverage altogether) and join in spirit at the coffee cart, for warm drinks.

I think EVERYBODY must have kept their scrabble tiles in those bags. We did at home; the Scrabble set at my godparents' cabin did.

And why would whiskey need a bag? So people can put their scrabble pieces in it? Is it still coming with that?
Oh, I think it was mostly a marketing thing to make it seem very "regal" and upscale. Checked the LCBO and it looks like you can still buy Crown in the box and bag but its a special gift set, not the regular bottle.

These were the days, you see, when if you were in any kind of position where you gave or got gifts, customers would give you bottles of Crown Royal as a Christmas gift. My dad was, then, sales and production planning manager for a tire company. We got a lot of whole Smithfield hams, and bottles, particularly of Crown Royal. Since neither of my parents drank hard liquor as a rule, meant we had a fine liquor cabinet for when company came over!

There was a much cheaper rye whiskey called "5 Star". Each bottle had a plastic silver star on it. I heard tell of a Newfie family who had an entire wall decorated with those stars, very closed spaced.

Since my uncle worked for Seagrams, he usually got some Crown or other product at Christmas. Not sure my mother, his big sister, was particularly thrilled about his drinking but I guess it is kind of hard to avoid when you work for one of the world's largest distillers, which Seagrams was in those days.
