I would consider tooth ache urgent. What does your dentist say?

Nothing, but when I responded to the cancellation of my appointment, suggested that they should prioritize rescheduling, with people like me near the top. I'm coping with extra sensitive toothpaste, orajel and some painkillers. The infection is gone, so there isn't that pressing on the nerve, as well.

There is dental wax, I used to use it for my braces to prevent rubbing. Not sure if rubbing that over the area would help, keep it covered, prevent food from getting in, etc.
I'm glad the antibiotics at least helped a bit.

I imagine there are many full-time workers who cannot afford food and shelter if they go without wages for a month or two.

Many of these workers happen to be the grocery store clerks, sanitation workers, and delivery men and women we are all relying on right now.

A deep irony of our 'economy' has been that the 'workers who work the most in the hardest jobs earn the lowest salaries'.

The growing wealth of the 1 percent has come at the expense of the involuntary sacrifice of their workers.

These so-called 'low skilled' employees are now the 'main essential workers' in the 'true economy'.

This stressing and straining will be an even greater tragedy if we do not use it as a wake-up call to address 'all ongoing epidemics'.

I will raise a toast to using this time to consider what kind of world we want to emerge into.
You DID hear about the $2000/ month people can get from the government, right? A friend of mine, who works for L’Arche ( and still does), says, that would be about what she would get as income, maybe a few dollars less, with which she could live.
Our neighbourhood has an online sign up sheet to receive or give help, including food and shopping. It had a great response. At the same time, they are sorting the volunteers into risk groups as many volunteers were older retired folks, and make sure to reduce the risks for those ( I am guessing the older folks volunteer now by staying home and cooking meals for others to deliver)

So apparently having two geeks in the same house using the same wi-fi is not a great plan. Little M and I hosed our router this afternoon using wi-fi to connect to our respective places of employment. I have switched to plugging in so we shall see how tomorrow goes.

Would oil pulling with coconut oil help?

A neighbour was saying their internet has been stretched too with 2 university students landing at home, with course work & exams to write; and a third kid in highschool also trying to do some stuff. They purchases a wifi booster to at least allow them to work more separately in their rooms, and are trying schedule a bit more with prioritization re necessary activities. And she's trying to adapt to feeding the family of 5 again - boys of this age sure do eat a lot!!

Ours is promising/threatening to do some of the cooking. He's actually got me interested in some of the dishes he's learned while bach'ing.

@BetteTheRed - oh geez that dental thing sounds nasty. Hoping you will be able to see somebody soon to get it repaired.

He has good fix planned, including a bone graft to deal with now-missing bone. If it gets beyond coping with, I will leave a message, and I'm sure he'd schedule immediate surgery. Problem is, there's not a lot of dentists you really trust to get things right. If it goes on a lot longer, I actually have a relative, a senior, retired, but active, Toronto dentist, who I could probably call in. As long as I don't get a reinfection of the area, I'm probably not at risk/risky for other people. It's a bit messy to be "mid-dental-chaos" at present.

Oh s**t, no. I had a brief flirtation with that concept. I understand that there is an entire ayurvedic concept around this, but my couple of month experimentation with this was not positive.

I have returned to simple concepts: flossing is good, except I never did it. A waterpik flosser helps a lot. An electric toothbrush is the bomb as long as you change heads frequently, especially if you're sick. Sensitive toothpaste is your friend. Warm salt water cures a lot.

My mother has one week to go until her admission to a nursing home. They want things to go there and be in quarantine for two weeks, we are worried that the are going to stop admitting new residents alltogether, which they have already done in another part of Germany after seventeen residents died.
They will only let one person in to bring in things and arrange her room. Which is a good thing.
My nephew will try to teach her using a simplified voice controlled screen for skyping, as nobody will be allowed to visit. Of course, she is worried and depressed, it doesn’t help, that my father’s younger brother, who is a year younger than her, is in the process of dying after a quadruple bypass with complications.
Germany has not reached the peak of Covid yet and they are having nice spring weather, luring people outside despite restrictions.

Good morning! With all that is going on with us, and around us, the coffee/tea cart is ready for the day's kaffeeklatsch. Come find a nice comfy chair, and join in.

Do you know what Kaffeeklatsch actually means?
Its like this, but with coffee mugs- and, embarrassing to say, usually a female thing to do. ( Klatsch meaning gossip, I think that’s still a female domain)

The younger of my two daughters is on this ship. It is brand, spanking new - never been anywhere except a few tests away from the dock. Before the Covid thing got wild they went into voluntary quarantine to stay safe. Unfortunately towards the end of that time people got sick.

The bottom line here is that my daughter got quarantines with suspected Covid a few days ago. The day before yesterday she had a slight fever but got a negative Covid test. The fever continued yesterday. Today she was supposed to get the second test and I haven't heard a thing.

It is agonising trying to stay calm.
