oh Mendalla You are so central Canada.
Yes it gets above 40 here. And I also say when we lived in Inuvik it was often the hotspot in Canada (in part because the sun didn't set and it didn't cool off..
It is 35 by my thermometer in the shade right now. and it is June. It will get hotter in July and Aug.

Tabatha, thank you for not referring to Ontario as the East. We in the Maritimes are the East.

We've had beautiful weather the last few days – temperatures up to the midteens, occasionally reaching 20, with sunshine after a long cold wet spring. Seelerman and I have been outdoors working in the yard – I'm trying to clean up the perennial beds which is a big job because I've neglected them. We are planting half dozen tomato plants in pots scattered in sunny spots around the house. (We have a lot of trees, a lot of shade.)

Beautiful weather now, but I'm afraid of the hot dry summer ahead. I really don't do good in hot weather.

Seeler, I haven’t dared planting my tomoatoes yet, still in pots to be carried in if there was another frost. ( I think it was the first week of June last year when we had -5 for three nights- and my tomatoes never recovered. The full moon is still two weeks away.

I am stressed out planning a fence. The neighbour has a young pit bull. They are reasonable and have been taking him out on a leash since I asked them to, but of course, the dog doesn’t know that the row of bushes between us marks the end of his property and growls at me when I hang up my laundry. Since my place is built on compacted soil of a former sports field and I have to plant every bush with a pick axe , digging holes by hand is not an option. Friday I tried to bang in one of those metal spike post holders- no way. Then asked a local shop if their augers would work- no go.
Now I have to find someone with a mini backhoe. I have a long weekend coming up in June for which I had planned to go on a hiking weekend, but it will be a fence construction weekend, I suppose.

Thanks for the cart Red. I'm moving slow today. I have a cold and did not sleep well last night. I think I'll have a cup of this lovely tea and nibble on biscuits. This chair by the fire is comfy and the nice blanket cozy.

I've never seen someone do the holes by hand for a fence. Not sure of the particular machinery, but seems pretty standard for people to come in just for the fence posts, pouring the concrete, etc.

Nice day here today, not really hot but still nice and warm, good air quality all day.
I'm totally wiped out though, my muscles are worse than the typical soreness after working out, I wish I knew what caused them to do that. The shortness of breath is bad too. I went out to run a few errands with Chemguy, was nice to be out of the house but getting in and out of the truck was difficult and I would have to stop and rest walking in a store. I just stayed while he popped into a store quickly too.

Oh, my son’s place is on former farmland and I would have no problem digging by hand as well as using the auger machine. Last year, we got 26 little trees out of the woods and planted them as a green barrier at the border of his property in no time ( admittingly not three feet deep as they were only one foot high). It’s my place that sucks. Waiting for response from one more guy about a price.

Ouch. That won't be cheap. We have a hard clay layer under our property but it's deep enough that we've only hit it when planting large trees. The company we hired to do our post holes didn't have any problem using an auger and they didn't come cheap to start with.

Gorgeous day in London. Perfect cycling weather so I hit the Thames Valley Parkway. 1 hour, 20 minutes and about 22 km (I forgot to start Strava right at the beginning so it's 18.something km plus an estimate of what I missed).

(For those not in the know. Strava is an app that uses your phone's GPS to track your route, distance, average speed, etc. for activities like jogging, walking, cycling, etc. It stores your data on their cloud and then you can, if you wish, share it, participate in challenges with other Strava users, and that sort of thing. So fitness tracking + social media.)

Got a rental place across the street. Renting an auger costs $65-85, but he said that if I have rocks I needn’t bother, it will not work. Hoping to get ahold of a guy who dug me a trench five years ago for $100 with a backhoe he “loaned from his work.”

Hmmmm. My nephew is a heavy machinery operator...not that I need any digging done right now but someday.

Ugh just stepped outside, the smoke is back. Last number set still looks good, but I can smell it and it sent me back in immediately coughing.

yes - there's a 'clamshell post hole digger' that one can rent - it's hard work - my husband did this for our fence. We (he!) also used a power auger with help of a friend for posts for our deck - again, hard work of a different sort - that thing could certainly kick back when hitting an obstacle.

I have lost a little pot. Please send good thoughts for its re-appearance. It contained four or five tiny white pine seedlings, it was going to be the first thing I dealt with; it was in my hand, and then... my neighbour talked to me, my daughter helped me move 20 or more pots from my car, as well as a load of empty pots. Then I had to shop for dinner. Small pot of tiny seedlings is gone. I have looked many places; dog thinks I am crazy.

I'm here at Claremont after an exhausting flight from Aus. I ran into a glass door at this hotel and went to receptiion to get some antiseptic and was googling awaw on my not so smart phone when in walked one of the seminar speakers tomorrow. I held up my phone and said is this you? He sais yes with a laugh and then we discussed the perils of too clean doors when you have jetlag.r

Weird. A drunk young man accosted me a little while ago - put his arm around my waste, kissed my cheek (said "sorry am I being that annoying slobbering guy?" I said "yes and I have to go now" which appeared to make him angsty - then, as he was leaning his hip against my arm - insisted that I accept $20 from him. We had just been chatting (he told me he survived multiple injuries) as I walked past but then he started telling me I'm beautiful, he's born again and the Lord wants him to help people and that he would totally call me his girlfriend if I was interested. He had me cornered so I had to take his money. At one point I handed back but he dropped it, it started to blow away. He went to pick it up and ran back and again was insisting I take it, pushing it at me - irritated that I said I didn't want it. Something about him being a man, and the bible. I tried about 5 times to tell him I didn't want his money. I ducked into a nearby cafe, a block up the road from where I was (he didn't follow me) and I think I'm going to take a cab home. I don't know what else to do. I honestly don't think he would've behaved that way, if he were sober, and he's going to feel stupid, and broke, by tomorrow. I don't want to report it.

:)

Oh...he also said "take it and put it in your pocket because I can't put it between your breasts", he said with a laugh, like a boy who told a potty joke. And no I am not dressed like someone who might accept money between their breasts for a living. Not at all.

Mrs. anteater, thank you for the warning about the tomatoes. After three nice days in a row, today we expect to be cloudy, cool, with light rain. Although we got the pots filled with soil and placed in sunny spots around the yard, we didn't get around to planting the tomato plants. I will put it off for a little longer.

My goodness, I hadn't thought about the work involved in putting up a fence. I guess the only fence I was really involved in building was for my Labrador retriever puppies, and it was freestanding. I used two by fours for the corners and didn't sink them into the ground. It was a temporary, movable pen. Digging post holes would be a whole different matter.

Hold it, is this what you're going to:

If so, have a blast. Tripp's talked about it a bit on Homebrewed Christianity and it sounds like a great event.
