Yep, which is basically what she said. Expounded on some of the ideas. She was taken with the idea of "paying for what you want", as we have tended to a scarcity rather than abundance model.

My neighbour feels a bit odd right now. Some houses still have Halloween decor up. Jack O lanterns are rotted more than typical thanks to the warm November we've had. Other houses are fully decked out for Christmas. Not just lights up and turned on when it's dark, but wreaths, candy cane lights in the ground, blow up Santas, etc. In some cases examples of the 2 are found beside each other.

I guess I am pretty well rounded.
I was making a special dinner for my swiss hockey billet and his dad who has flown in for 4 days (and for my other hockey billet of course). Just as I put main course in the oven the phone rang. Borrowed car at rink wouldn't start. 'My response-I am on my way. I arrived with cables. manged to jump my van up on median-avoiding light pole and cables reached. Not only do I have cables but I know how to use them. Then back home to finish dinner. Food timing wasn't as precise as it would have been without interuption but all worked out fine.

Good for you Tabitha! I am impressed. I've had a full week...lots and lots of volunteering, at two schools and for Christmas Cheer. I've decided to be a visitor this year, which means I visit the applicants for Christmas Cheer to review their information and get ideas about what their kids would like for Christmas. I decided to do this after a few people, honestly, admitted that they become too judgemental when they do this job. I think that I can do it without judging in a negative way. My only judgement so far is frustration when people aren't home for a scheduled appointment. Other than that, I really like all that I have met. I do feel a little awkward about the personal financial questions I need to review with them.

I am at Five Oaks, waking up this morning to a misty, moisty morning, when cloudy was the weather.

Are you there for the weekend? If my weather-geek is right, you might have a hellish drive home if you wait until tomorrow (though I guess being from Cambridge, Five Oaks isn't that far for you).

Oh well - maybe my guy needs a group of concerned people around him, like the parish priest in my childhood. He kept giving his warm overcoat to cold people at the bus stop. A group of women took it upon themselves to keep a supply of replacement coats on hand. They searched them out at rummage sales. His wife would just tell one of the group and a new coat was quickly supplied!

B-rrr Just arriving with some freshly chopped kindling. Give me a minute to shake off this white stuff and get a cheery fire started. Yep, we've got our first snow - enough to turn the lawn white although the streets and driveways are bare. But it's above freezing. The falling snow soon melts and rain is expected later today. I don't expect any significant accumulation, unless we get some tonight when the temp drops again.

I've brought along some cheddar cheese and some cinnamon raisen bread (from the bakery) for breakfast.
I'm hoping to get my gingerbread cookies made today. Grandson is expected after school.

I am wiped physically and becasue of that slightly grumpy. I am completely off the antibiotic but dealing with them having wiped out my gut flora.. Hand is almost as good as it was. Did yoga Mon. night but skipped a few moves-my hand and forearm were so this morning. I'm anxious to do things but my stamina isn't back. and because I'm frustrated I am eating carbs and so I am tired. Vicious circle.

So I'll just sit here by the fire for awhile and I will feel better tomorrow.

@seeer, did you get the paper clipping? Was it helpful.
Yes, Crazyheart. And my appologies for not thanking you sooner. (I tend to wait until I have time for a long letter, and that time slips by.)

Crazyheart sent me a nice note by snail-mail (it's nice to get real mail from the mail carrier once in awhile) and a newspaper clipping about the Franklin expedition with a picture of a pile of skulls and the headline "They're Not Human". I took it along and added it to my display at a craft sale at a local Catholic church. It attracted attention and was a conversation starter for my sales pitch. I sold ten books.

Yes - feel better tomorrow Tabitha. Patience is hard when you're used to being so active.

I flew to BC today - spending a few days at my Dad's and then going up to Whistler to see my dtr for a few more days. Rainy weather of course ... it's the usual November fare. There were lots of babies & kids on the flight - which made it interesting :-) One little person - and I do mean little - maybe 3 months old - had started his day in Halifax, flew to Toronto, then to Vancouver, then to Victoria! Wow - that's is a long journey! The mom & her friend seemed in good spirits tho, as did the little one. I'm just trying to stay awake a little longer so I'm not awake at 5am!

Well, this past week has been something of an ordeal. I noticed last weekend that I had a lump forming in my hairline just above my forehead. Sy Sunday noon it was sore as a boil, and the center of my forehead was turning red and hot. At church I showed it to a friend of mine who happens to be a doctor. She told me that i should see my doctor asap. So Monday morning I went over to my doctor's office and asked for an appointment. The very earliest was Tuesday morning, but I would be called if there was a Monday cancellation. So, warm face cloth, polysporin, trying not to touch it.
Tuesday morning saw doctor - big boil, and she doesn't like the way the redness is spreading over my forehead and down between my eyebrows. Take antibiotics, put on hot compresses, come back in three hours.
So Tuesday afternoon I'm back, its draining. She excises it - it hurts. Continue antibiotics (I have enough for ten days), continue hot face cloth held to area, come back Thursday morning.
By Thursday its drained quite a bit, and redness is fading. But the lump is still hard and sore. She wasnts to be sure to get it cleaned out. She'll try freezing it but freezing doesn't work well in infected tissue. I told her to go ahead; I can stand it. pain, pain, pain. Gripping the sides of the table, trying not to move or scream. She offers to stop if I can't handle it. I can, give me a moment to catch my breath, and continue. I know that she's trying to be as gentle as possible. Success. She packs it and puts a big bandage over my forehead, taping it up into my hair. We have an appointment with our lawyer that afternoon about our wills and POA - I have to go with a big white bandage on my head.
Friday morning - at the office again to have bandage and packing removed. There was some bleeding and drainage but it's looking good, I'm told. Smaller bandage. Extra-mural nurse is coming tomorrow afternoon to check and rebandage if necessary. I hope it isn't necessary - I hate this banage on my head and my hair sticking out from under it in all directions. But thank heavens she didn't shave my head.
Also, thank God for medicare.
Years ago boils were treated at home with home remedies - I remember something about bread poltices; Seelerman remembers something about holding the mouth of a hot coke bottle to the spot (the vacume would suck out the infection). My doctor told me that it most likely would have healed in time, but with a lot of pain and suffering and possible spread of infection. It might partially drain, heal over, swell again, break and drain, partially heal, over and over.
Thank God I didn't need to go through that.

Ouch Seeler! That is indeed a nasty sounding situation. I had a giggle tho - imagining the lawyer seeing you walk into his/her office all bandaged up and they may well have thought - "wow - they're here just in the nick of time!" LOL

Sure does rain a lot out here on Vancouver Island! I would really rather have it 20 below and sunny, than day after day of rain and clouds. Yesterday the sun did come out for a bit though - and so I spent some time weeding, pruning & tidying my Dad's front courtyard garden. It was nice to be outside & feeling useful. We've managed our few days together quite well, thankfully. Soon off to dinner - trying a new restaurant & hoping it will go well! At age 90 he doesn't have much patience sometimes! Tomorrow is a travel day - he is driving me (he insisted, to my chagrin) to the Naniamo ferry where I'll hop a bus for the crossing & trip to Whistler. They've got lots of snow in the last day or two!
