Apparently more aurora visible far to the North (relative to South Hemispheries) and South (relative to us Northies)for the past few days
Yep. Another big solar flare hit. I'm just far enough inside the city that light pollution keeps me from seeing stuff like that but I've seen it reported in a few of my science news sources.

I just finished listening to Wicked the book by Gregory Macguire. It is of course the book which is the basis for the movie. When I went to enter my review, I saw that a lot of people hated it. I guess I like fantasy and books that make me think. This did it. The narrator was most excellent.

We're waiting for friends to drop in. Otherwise, it has been a restful day. I went to my knitting group then came home to finish Wicked. I feel most recovered from my very busy weekend.

It's actually a series now, I think. As for haters, I think that whenever someone does an alternate take on a beloved story/world (Oz in this case) that's going to set some people off. I often enjoy seeing how someone else spins a story in a new way and its how classical mythology and Greek literature largely worked (different writers putting their own spins on a story). And lets face it, from what I've heard, The Wizard of Oz movie was not entirely faithful to the books to start with so when people get snarly about Wicked, it's a bit of an eyeroll moment.

Warm day here. Waiting for the desk to get installed in my new office office (vs. my home office) so I can get moved. I'll have windows in both my offices now (and there was great rejoicing). There's a bit of a domino thing here. I need to move so someone else can move so a third person can have the someone else's current office. In the end, we finally get my whole department in one place with tons more space than they have now so the work is going to be worth it. OTOH, if I stick with my current thinking, I'll only get to enjoy it for one year. I'm thinking summer 2026 for retirement, though there's reasons I might stay on longer. We'll see.

I hear the first Wicked book in the series is actually quite dark (with things like rape) and that the movie of the 1st book was a lot brighter?

I hear Dorothy was sent to assassinate the Wicked Witch and that after Oz entered a state of civil war

So, definitely not for everyone...

I have only read the 1st Frank Baum book and I have always adored fairy tales, which I think he captured well and the movie did a good job with capturing the feel of the book...

There is room enough for a lot and we all don't have to enjoy or like everything, thank God -- life would be soooo dull otherwise :3

Yes he has several books based on Oz. I did read them years ago. They inspired me to read the L Frank Baum originals. Reading the originals helps to understand how Maguire took the story where he did.

There's always story behind a story's initiation ... but people stuck and edified with steady state conditions will get antsy ...

Thus it goes ... and the ectoplasm may create flames ... as X -ist and X-ist-ism a famous belief in existence! Food for Hee Haw ...

Good morning! Increased visibility of the Northern Lights, Wicked book series, movie and TV, the story behind the story, these and other thoughts that occupy our minds come with us as we gather in spirit round the Coffee Cart. We gather to discuss, to support, to deepen our connections through conversations over coffee, tea, and English muffins. The muffins are toasted to order, tea water is ready, and coffee is freshbrewed. All is ready, all are welcome. Come in when you can and join the fun!

It is said that after the Vatican us there were 12 versions that lead to KJV ... and still more stacked tales of primal relations ... there are patterns being formed!

Waves of opiumism ... so much to observe ...

Gregory Maguire on his inspiration for Wicked

Gregory Maguire on his issues with the musical

(that would be a "interesting" musical with child abuse, incest, rape, animal cruelty, pedophilia...)

Are excessively optimistic people leaning that way because they just cannot see the negative side of their choices due to hubris?

How do you suppose this will come down in the long run, given numerous bits of deficient information ... large holes in the lay out as schemed?

How does this compare to great leaders that believe they know everything and don't know what they are not familiar with? Familiarity thus can breed contempt as it inhibits the grosser desires ... some folk just cannot contain what they believed to be in their gauntlet ... ya Hans ,,,

A lot of musicals get "interesting" if you think deeply. I mean, at heart Phantom of the Opera is about a psychotic stalker manipulating the object of his affection and her eventual escape. The musical kind of romanticized it, too, which is arguably worse than the original novel and the 1925 silent film where the Phantom is more clearly a "villain". One of the things I like about the Nightwish cover of the title track in its original version (from their 2002 album Century Child and also on the 2005 live album End of an Era) was that their bassist-male vocalist Marko Hietala sang the Phantom and sounded more deranged and sinister than the usual operatic tenor or baritone, e.g. Henk Poort, who sang it with the band in 2022 and who has played the Phantom on stage.

I guess we're supposed to be getting some storms later in the day for Ontario. Pretty windy here with some very muggy weather.
I was looking at some sunrise pictures from some areas......how ironic and how beautiful the smoke makes the sunrises and sunsets red from the fire disasters! So sad and yet awesome at the same time

Well yeah, of course

Or if you think from some outside or sideways pov (like how Lord of the Rings is really tragic because non royalty there can never rise above their class or how I can look at something like an animal eating by shoving matter through a hole in their head as quite bizarre...)

Or like what those peeps were trying to do with "Its Cold Outside" not too far back portrayin it as CREEPER MACKIN ON the lady...

It sounds like Wicked the book is intentional not thinking from another pov gruesome and dark and the musical is intentionally not like the book, with its paedophilia etc thus why i grok why some people don't comport with the book. I don't see it as some sort of failing on their part

Heck, imagine Hostel the musical or Caligula the musical

I think I would watch Resevoir Dogs: the Musical

I wanted to see the Hateful Eight when it came oot that one Christmas

It had an actual intermission with an actual band

So much is hidden in musicals, lends and other banded presentations ... and as far as sacred individuals within that are hostile ... just use your imagination.

Generally folks ignore that sort of matter and can't see what might be coming from what they voted for as ... they do not believe they have a hostile cell in their body! Some of these are passed off as Mystery Disease and the stress kills yah! As if we didn't know in a profound way ... buried in soul?

There is a whole class of people that eliminate soul as X-ist en duel ... albeit the spelling, etc. may vary! Life is like that loaded with unfalsifiable qualities ... folly?

Don't know whyyyyyyyyyyyy there's no sun up in the skyyyyyy, stormy weather....

Good morning! Rainy night and morning in these part, even had tornado watches overnight. Well, at least my car got a bit cleaner. Hope your weather is better. We gather round the Coffee Cart today with thoughts of Wicked, and Phantom, and storms (or other weather) to chat about it, as well as to have coffee, tea, and English muffins. The tea water is boiling, coffee is freshbrewed, and muffins toasted to golden brown, with several spreads and toppings for them. All is ready, all are welcome. Come join the conversations!

It is said much of life stated on an alien stormy night in the obscurity of great flames ... so the relations were sacred ... there are myths about things going on in the upper reaches ... would we want to know? Then there are these forces ... divine! Split?

Just for the fun of seeing how they perform autonomously ... will they shoot themselves in the foot during the dah? It is said to happen in some administrations and without a thought about it ... just mist! Clouds gather because of doubts ...

Do you sometimes live in concern that your surroundings may erupt in flames and incinerate the heaven you dreamed up while all else was going down the drain, sewer, swamp, etc. and you didn't recognize the cause? Is there some alien reason behind this relative excursion from normal that you didn't observe because of rapidity? Therein the flash ... that's the point man of the entire process ... making more stardust ...

Thus the massive grinder ... the greatest sort of story relegated from myth ...

Just got an air quality alert on my Environment Canada app. Yep, the smoke has reached Ontario. Eek. That's gotta be a lot of smoke. Last time we had this, it was fires in Quebec so closer. Damp, dark day, too.
