It's been a wicked summer for weather, that's for sure. Two employees of my employer's Barrie location took damage in the Angus tornado. The company is contributing towards their insurance deductibles and inviting other employees to help out as well. This is one of the reasons I am still with the company - their really is some genuine concern with, and recognition of, the needs and problems of staff. We aren't just cogs in the machine.
On my own front, mixed quiet. The lesions, rash, whatever the hell they are on my arms appear to be confounding the pathologists examining the biopsies. Two biopsies, neither conclusive though both leaning to a form of psoriasis. That's not what I went in expecting (given family history, I was expecting something else) and I'm not sure if that means they are wrong or my family history is wrong. Back to the dermatologist in August but I think it's got her stumped, too, and a second opinion could take 6+ months. We have a severe shortage of dermatologists in London so getting in to see one for anything short of obvious skin cancer takes months.
My diabetes has been flaky recently, too. High readings at bedtime (before evening snack) but otherwise largely staying in the controlled range. Need to research that a bit to see if I need to adjust something somewhere in my eating and activities.
Dad's eightieth birthday looms. We're having a party next week at a cousin's house (it's my uncle's eightieth, too). I'm thinking he won't see ninety or if he does, he won't know it. Dementia seems to be progressing fairly slowly so hopefully he can hang on until we get a decent longterm care facility lined up. The melanoma that was removed had only spread a little and the oncologist he saw (I drove him for that appointment) says his family doc and surgeon did the right thing - got rid of it and nearby lymph nodes - and recommended monitoring for now. That's given his age and condition. If he was younger and healthier, she said she might have tried some chemo but felt it might do more harm than good for him.
I'm in a spiritual holding pattern for now. I'm still working on committees at my UU fellowship but still unsure whether I'm staying for the long haul. I am doing a service this summer but after that, I'm largely free of worship commitments and the other committee I'm on is finished by October. We shall see where things stand in the fall.
