Room For All

Welcome to Wondercafe2!

A community where we discuss, share, and have some fun together. Join today and become a part of it!

Only in Newfoundland. Job offers that come informally - more of a handshake than a contract. Friends lined up, and accomodation found through buddies. A "come in when you get here, and we'll set you up with gear". A bonfire to meet your new coworkers. Start in the morning. You know, if your oldest is headed off to be in the world, it is good to know he is with good people.

Wouldn't the HOV lanes speed up your travel? I'm not sure why/how it would slow travel.

I did a part day of year end finishing up at work-even tho last paid day was Friday. Did my mileage claim and stats. Tomorrow a wee bit more work and then done.
Went to Kelowna this afternoon to pick up a few things and was fortunate that my oldest could meet me for supper. A lovely meal on the patio.

Usually the HOV lanes do speed up traffic a bit Tabitha, which is part of the reason for having them. That, and they make things a little easier on the environment as they promote carpooling.

So tonight I was sitting down to a lovely dinner on the deck with my husband ... and suddenly realized I was supposed to be in Burlington (a usual half hour drive) meeting friends for dinner!! With the new HOV lanes in effect on the highway due to PanAm games, it was absolutely not going to be possible to even get there for dessert! So I had to embarrassingly chalk it up to being a 'senior moment' (with apology to my senior friends!!). I'm sad I missed the get together ... it's been a great many months since we've all seen each other.

Similar things have happpened to me - I forget something that would be truly enjooyable and end up doing the routine, or even boring stuff.
I recently missed a Parkinson Support Group meeting that I had been looking forward to (with a guest speakeer on 'aids for maintaining your independence'), and attended a boring church council meeting (as one of four Presbytery reps on the council). I only realized the next day when I glanced at my calendar that the Parkinsons meeting was gone by. No use beating myself up about it - we'll meet again in the fall.

And it is not due to age or 'losing it'. I was in college - I just finished eating a batchlor meal in my housekeeping apartment when the phone rang. A friend asked 'had I forgotten a group was meeting for dinner'. Being young, I didn't fess up - instead I said 'I'll be right over' - and I ate another meal.

Actually - the HOV (high occupancy vehicle) lanes for the PanAm are slowing traffic. To drive in them, one must have a minimum of 3 people in the car or taxi; be a bus; or be a designated PanAm vehicle. This is in effect from 5:00am to 11:00pm daily. Some of our highways have sections of HOV already, but the usual requirement is 2 people in the car. Often the existing HOV lanes are faster, but not always.

But the temporary PanAm lanes to have been added to virtually ALL the existing highways in the Greater Toronto area - because many of the events are spread around in about a 100km radius from the city & the athlete's village is right downtown Toronto. So the lanes are intended to facilitate athletes & officials getting to their event destinations in a timely manner, which I understand. But this also means most 3 lane highways, which are constantly busy regardless of time of day, are now reduced to 2 lanes of travel for most cars - and it's slow for the vast majority of people.

So cool ... love the Newfs! If you need anything delivered out to him in August pinga - just let me know! Most likely would be less to pay for an extra bag on the airline than to ship stuff :-)

Thanks Carolla. I think my husband is driving out in August, but if that doesn't pan out, i may take you up on your offer!

I've lost at least 5, maybe 10 lbs. in a month. I don't own a scale but my pants are loose. There are times of stress when I seem to put it on - emotional eating, maybe. Then, there are times of grief where I've dropped it very quickly, unintentionally. In my late 20's I went through my first major break-up and I was skinny for awhile. My natural body weight is the higher end of average, genetically. My immediate family, noone is on the too thin side of the line. But, I just lose my appetite. Anything greasy or rich disgusts me. Chocolate - well, I still like it but only a taste. Break-ups can be good for weight loss, if that can be thought of as a plus in the middle of the turmoil.

I was thinking about psoriasis triggers, as it's been bad.
Came across a really positive sign though - I think the last time I took an NSAID it was due to my wisdom teeth. I err on the side of taking them when not needed as I would rather pop a pill unnecessarily then have things get bad. So going for such a long stretch is a really great sign!

Thoughts and prayers needed again. My bf's grandpa has suffered a major stroke this afternoon. He was in ICU but has been moved to pallative care. My bf's dad doesn't believe he will make it through tomorrow. Bf is trying to decided if he wants to go see him or if it will be too much. His Grandpa didn't recognise his dad today.

thanks for the explanation Carolla. There were similar lanes added to the Vancouver roads for the Olympics-not HOV lines I think they said "official cars only". Perhaps someone from Vancouver could say more. I was just there for 3 days.

Thinking of you and your bf, Greywolf.

hugs to your bf & his family GrayWolf - goodbyes are hard sometimes. Is he very close with grandpa? Have you too met grandpa? I kinda think he would have liked you.

It was a lovely afternoon - sunny & breezy - when I came out of work today ... so I changed my shoes & went for a walk in the woods! It was verdant & peaceful - great finish to the day.

Verdant??? Is that like vertigoes ... or just indigenous as indigo blocked out so the overhead I won't see what you're doing under there ... bothering the flowers ... leering?

Don't look aL ice ... could cause localized heating ... visual effect of fair moans! Isn't that nice ... or someone's rye niece?

Is some one always someone's niece or just the ney phew sort without el aura?

Thus Laura's Theme --- Dr 'n Zchivagos perspective ... of the incomplete story ...

Did you know the Vaguest nerves are at the brain stem ... and neurologists say this is a stemmy organ ... a great gonad as emotional abut incoming feeds to support myth ... you know ... things we didn't know, previously! Thus plastic creep ... the brain is a bit thick with all de internal smoking ... a bit of a ham if you deny heM as a fringe (beni phitz)!

aaah, Greywolf. Hard decision. It would be nice if your BF could go to the funeral, and spend time with family. It is good to see cousins, and reconnect, to share stories. It is good for all generations.

i just wanted to say thank-you for this room. I come here, check in on folks, listen quietly to stories some days, and am just present.
Other times, I share a vignette of my life, what is happening, fears, concerns, delights, joys, and wonderment.

This is a wonder-filled room.

may your day find you love, peace, hope and joy...something that I learned from beloved
may someone light the fire for you or prepare you a simple meal tht fills your soul ...something i learned from seeler

i could go on with so many other learnings and dreams. take care folks
