Squash can be a crushing thing as a sport ... if a crush develops there could be some Judean songs or Juicing ... Romans despised people appearing happy as it meant they were not producing as the romantics wished ... thus raisins as desiccated. or folks in the way of riders coming off the Steppes ... Russians? Fast furies ... resembling mental flares ... anything close is heated ...

My dtr planted a few butternut squash last year in her planter boxes, for the first time. They thrived and she was overwhelmed with harvest of about 75 squash! After giving some to friends, she took to giving some away at her bookstore, and then donated a LOT to the local foodbank, which were gratefully received. And of course she had plenty to overwinter at home! This year she planted only ONE plant!
How many did she plant?! I am licky to get 10 on the smaller side in a good year.
Growing season length here does make winter squash a little difficult. Basically 2nd week of June - early Sept once they germinate. If starting seed in May with hot weather likely need to cover gor a few nights in May or June.

I'm going to link up the garden/bird feeder discussion. A family of chipmunks routinely scamper down the fence line of our property to get to the neighbour's birdfeeder. I think these chipmunks spread out into other parts of our yard when we aren't looking. Because now we have volunteer sunflowers growing in our vegetable garden and our flower garden. Thankfully, they are the smaller sunflower variety.

I don't recall exactly - maybe half a dozen plants? Wisdom predicted 2-4 squash/plant ... she obviously got the overachievers! this year she has planted 4 squash plants - only 1 of each kind!

We are in the season known as 'lock your car.. Those who forget sometimes find their car stuffed with zucchini.

Good afternoon. We've travelled north on the island for our new site for the week. This is a nice park. We spent some time here last year. We've already reconnected with friends and look forward to seeing another friend later today or tomorrow. We'll visit with my aunt and uncle and cousin as well as other friends. Hubby has a golf date for Thursday.

Apparently, none of you have chipmunks related to my chipmunks, who would not let a single sunflower seedling, even a 2 footer with 8 leaves, grow. Every single one eaten at soil level. Grrrr...

Oh my - that iis a spectacular sunflower MrsA. I'm in awe of what can sprout from a single tiny seed - nature is incredible!

Good morning! Squash and sunflower and chipmunks, oh my... Anyway, the coffee cart is up and running, all is ready, come on in and join the fun. And be sure the car is locked, unless you WANT a boatload of zucchini...

Chipmunks are destructive and yet ignored as cute ... they are better as ground squirrel or dissociated hog ... dispense with them they multiply like stupid!

More of little things that degrade ... thus the urge to bury eM!

I have had this wicked cold/cough for 10 days now...tested multiple times and it's not covid. Today, I connected with a walkin clinic and the doctor is going to give me antibiotics and a puffer, because I'm having some breathing issues. Well...the prescription seems to have got lost. The clinic called at 5, which is their closing time, to say they were forwarding the prescription to my drug store. I went there twice and phoned once...No sign of a prescription. This is not the first time I've been involved with pharmacy mess-ups. It seems to be much more frequent than it used to be. If they can't get this right, do I trust them to get my drugs right?

I am getting ready to drive to a provincial park for a “ walk on the ocean floor” with a knowledgeable person explaining the little creatures we are about to see. Sunshine now, afternoon supposed to be raining, so I am driving into Halifax after to check out the big bike stores for what e- bikes sell for ( its end of season sale).
Got one window replaced yesterday but am still waiting for a special order window I ordered in March. Hopefully will get here before the winter does.

Good morning, all! From first days at Kindergarten, walks on the ocean floor, to nasty persistent coughs, and long overdue window orders (I'm still waiting for a grave marker, that was ordered in mid March) and all the other joys and frustrations, big or small, we gather round the coffee cart to vent, listen, support, commiserate, etc, as we remember we are not alone. All is ready, come on in.

And as a companion some say that they are accompanied by nothing ... from which the silence can address you about overly lively things concerning excesses! Jah, I know it is beyond me too ... modernism is a moving horizon! Behind it is a shadow of sorting's ...

Putting things to order in a disordered function like entropy is like minimalization ... and all goes in that Black Hole through eternal condensation ... a tight spot! Then relief as grooved there ... mark on the Wahl!

Then the Wahl is a grand field ...

I hope you get your prescriptions today @Nancy. Friend had this in early July - definitely needed the antibiotics & inhaler, plus some prednisone for a few days - with good response - still took a while tho to gradually feel okay. Fingers crossed for you.

I am soon heading out to my garden to do some overdue weeding this morning. We got a bit of rain yesterday ... so I'll also go over to my school garden later to see how it is faring. Hoping to plant some greens there today or tomorrow, for Sept interest for the kids. Beans & carrots & summer squash are germinating so that's good. I tidied up the path thru the pollinator garden the other day so it is welcoming of little feet who will soon return.

And later - I will knit the LAST two rows on a shawl I've been working on forever! It's a 'lace weight yarn' - which I've never worked with before. SO fine - but I think the result will be a beautifully soft cashmere shawl/long scarf. I'm eager to see how it looks after I block it. Not sure yet if I will keep it or give it away. The yarn was a gift from stash of an acquaintance :)

Low tide on the Bay of Fundy? We might be visiting the NB side of the bay. Still firming up some vacation plans.

Last one I had, it was the doctor. They faxed the scrip to a neighbouring, related pharmacy instead of mine (a nearby Loblaws, mine is a No Frills about 10 minutes away).
