Sorry to hear this Nancy. Would it be possible to get the doctor to advise her to not get the surgery?
He did advise her, but ethically, I think he feels he has to go through with it if that is her wish. My sisters are very upset about this and are trying to figure out...at what point is someone not capable of making their own medical decisions? Mom has some dementia but it is not life-changing, yet.

Hmm... So ethically the doctor has to perform a procedure the patient wants even if it is not recommended (medically speaking)?

This does not seem right to me but I might be missing some of the nuance

Concerning news re mothers, wonderful news re great granddaughter!

Spring has sprung. Dog got sprayed by skunk last night. Dog reeks, house reeks (although I have kept her out of my bedroom), and I've either developed a coincident cold or I'm more sensitive to skunk than I was, but I can't seem to stop sneezing.

That doesn't work. What does work is a combination of baking soda and hydrogen peroxide with a few drops of original blue Dawn washing up liquid. Which would be great if I wasn't so friggin' allergic to the Dawn...

The unscented dishsoaps would probably work pretty good as the same mixture I would imagine. I think it was palmolive that made one.

That’s why I have an indoor cat.

My grand dog got sprayed in her backyard a few years ago. She went to the groomer to get cleaned up. They did a good job but she always stunk when she got wet that summer. Big problem for a dog who likes swimming.

Good morning! We have reached the weekend. As we continue to think of family medical situations, and remember (not so fondly) furry friends' encounters with unpleasant wildlife, let us gather round the coffee cart. All is ready.

I have skunks around at times but no pets so I rather enjoy their company. They are cute as all heck, really. Just keep your distance, though I find they aren't especially aggressive with humans. I have watched them wander the yard from outside on the deck and they barely notice me. Don't bother them and they won't bother you, basically. Dogs just don't seem to learn that lesson. My only complaint is their penchant for digging for grubs and other goodies.

Definitely winter again here but apparently we should be back to Spring-ish weather on Monday. Saw a male robin in one of my trees this morning so that's generally a hopeful sign. And one week to go until Equinox.

I think even our skunks are still buried under snow here in Northern Ontario. We got dumped on again last night. It's starting to be unbelievable!

We are going to have 10-12 degrees today, flurries tonight, we usually see a snowstorm around St Patrick's day, but it doesn’t seem to be this year. So I was brave and put the snow blower back in the shed and uncovered my rhododendron. It was squished from all the snow it had on top- I think it might be big enough now to make it through the winter without cover. It’s free standing, no windbreak. It got lots of buds on it, I am looking forward to June!

@Seeler Wow, that must be absolutely wonderful. Thankful that all are well. Delightful size! oh goodness, I am happy for you!
@Nancy Hope that the surgeon and sisters can help work through the nuances. I wonder if your mother is thinking that living with the situation is not worth it...and would just like it fixed despite the risk?
@Mrs.Anteater I am sorry to hear about your mother having such serious health concerns. I hope that she is well cared for.
@Northwind -- nice bags. I haven't sewn for a while, there are other things keeping me busy. I look forward to time to sew again.

ok, whoosh, that was a lot to catch up on.

I went shopping for a mother of the groom dress. I'm so not good at this stuff. Didn't realize the lead time. left it too late for ordering my size in stuff so had to reduce selection to what i felt looked good and was in a size. There was a lovely dress that i got into with that funny scene from movies where the too fat person is being told to hold it, hold it, and they pull the zipper up. Yes it looked good, but, dang, is that uncomfortable.
I ended up buying a 3 piece outfit that I love the fabric and will look good when reduced in size. (it's too big now, so hangs a bit like a sack).

Anyhow, learning, learning, learning.

Good morning. I finished a quilt that needed just a binding yesterday. It was nice to sit and hand sew the binding while we watched Picard last night. Now I can take it to put it on the Victoria's Quilts pile for this area.

I wasn't going to pick up more material but I think I will. I may need to give an alert that it may not return finished until August or September.

We're heading to my sister's today. It's dreary and overcast right now.

Oh I hear you Jayne on the shopping! So glad you found something! Went with my friend - mother of groom - abt 5 years ago - yuck to a lot of the fashions & most stores told us 'too late!' And wow - so expensive to buy 'bridal' retail! We did finally find someone much more reasonably priced & could deliver within time frame - so it all worked out well. But she's no longer in business. Lessons learned.
This July her dtr is getting married - outdoors, a little more casual, garden party theme - so we ventured out last week to Sherway mall - OMG - so changed in 2 years! And we found nothing. Most places didn't even have summer stock in yet. And yikes - 'little house on the prairie' seems to be the fashion trend at the moment (outside of bridal stores). Yesterday we went on a prowl through the upscale consignment stores in Oakville - saw lots of stuff but they too are not doing summer fashions yet - said come back in a month! We had lots of fun anyway, enjoying a 'day out' - and of course managed to buy lovely things in each of the stores LOL. She did get some spectacular new and extremely comfy shoes in a great neutral colour - so that's at least done!

Jayne...you are very insightful (re your comments about my mom). However, my sisters and I are really wondering if she is making an informed decision. She keeps 'forgetting' that the doctor told her it would be painful. I have told her multiple times what the doctor said, as have my sisters. Today, the sister she lives with says she is making progress in getting mom to reconsider. On top of all that, today she tested positive for COVID. Feels like a sinus cold, is what she said. My husband and I have been with her this week, so we are expecting to get it too. Rapid test still says negative, but that's not an all-clear. I'm skipping church tomorrow.

Good morning! Once again it is dark when I arise, thanks to DST. When will that foolishness end?? Anyway, the cart is ready. Let us gatherinspirit for virtual hot beverages of all kinds.

Dark Ness allows one rest from reality ... like the God as SET in abstract (Egyptian dream)?

And it is fluid ... it can run right up to you ...

Good morning. We are watching the end of a fabulous church service in the snowy north. It is overcast and grey here. It may be a day for sewing. I can continue the project of making pillows out of my father's ties for my sister, brother and I. First coffee
