Next Federal Election

She is the most honest politician in politics. And voting for her likely means vote splitting and handing power to someone I don't want...and unfortunately because she is normally so genuine and nice, neighbour next door type, I think that would be a weakness on the world stage. And that's just a sad statement on humanity.

Should I just respond oh fuddle duddle to any of your opinions?
I see someone who is incapable of leading, immediately jumps to support a serial sexual assaulter without even looking at what was out in the public (when there were already numerous tip offs in that FB post) and whose platform shows ignorance about science.

But it was her performance at this event that prompted you to write "not a leader I'd want". You've said it before, but bad comedy really seals the deal for you, I guess.

I am sure she's made mistakes. As has every politician or human being for that matter. As a person, I like Elizabeth May. I think she is the same at and off work. Genuine. Maybe she jumped too fast to support a couple of things. She aknowledges her mistakes.

As for her platform regarding ignorant science. She was voted in, in a riding with very high numbers of educated people - but also very green minded people. You have your opinion. And as Inanna said, the culture out here is different.

She is the most honest politician in politics.
What makes you say that? I can think of others who I would consider before her for the 'most honest' although I have no great metric to be confident in declaring them so.

I disagree that nice people finish last. How did she get to be leader of the party based on your logic?
The Greens got 2 seats - so they're doing better - but she was excluded from debates last election. This year they're going to let her participate. But with all that's going on in politics - she is very upfront and honest about everything that happens in the house, in Ottawa generally - but she gets totally blasted because of some stupid comedy at some stupid dinner. This is probably the biggest "scandal" we'll ever see out of Elizabeth May unless the press over-blows some other trivial thing.

You didn't answer my question.

You didn't answer my question.

I think I answered your question. She got elected to a small party and has a small electorate, relatively speaking, of people who trust her and recognize her merits. She's not exactly a political powerhouse, numbers-wise. In the federal running, she's the nicest and she'll finish last. And of all the scandalous things ever heard of in politics, this stupid thing is going to follow her around, at least through the next election.

now i've come to grok one of the imports of May's speech to sombunall canadian conservatives -- that shows that Elizabeth May isn't to be taken seriously at all and PM (and Premier) is only for mature, serious people

i so love being able to apprehend another's BS

i laughed when i heard a nickname for Trudeau Jr: 'mooncalf' :3

I think if. Any of theother three leaders did what May did theree would havebeen hugecries for resignation

Not sure why she can get away with a drunken, vulgar speech

Both she and Trudeau can be out on a "not ready to lead" list

Makes the choice clearer. Harperr or Mulcaire

i grok

if someone did that on a job, they'd be fired, right?

maybe May's childhood protects her (like children in rl are held to different standards)?

@Lastpointe What if it was a work social event where comical 'roasting' was expected? It was in poor taste but I am pretty confident that it's the biggest scandal we'll ever see out of her. All kinds of people have led with all kinds of corruption beneath the surface, and their heads held high - determined, playing the part . But an honest one makes a fool of herself at a fun dinner one night and she's unfit to lead. Okay. Well, she's unfit to lead in my opinion because she doesn't have enough general support (yet). Maybe in 2019. Maybe not. But it has nothing to do with that evening.

In my experience, it is never a good thing to become inebriated at a work event. Doesnt matter what kind.

In the past sure, but thimes have changed

It showed poor judgement

I think because she is i guess a sweet lady the press likes her. She gets far moe attention than deserved.

Maybe a couple of drinks when combined with sleeplessness went to her head faster than she'd anticipated. It can happen. Oops. She doesn't strike me as someone who drinks very much, very often. And she's not a stand-up comic. Who knew?

Well, all things considered I think the public and/ or media could be a bit more forgiving about that lapse in judgment. But, they're onto other things right now anyway.

Some vote along party lines, and so will choose to vote having Mr. Harper or Mr. Mulcaire as leader in mind. Personally (and I wouldn't be alone in this) based on my perception of who the local candidates are. I vote for whichever man I feel will best represent our riding, regardless of who the PM will be.
