jae - you find CBC a biased news source? Please give us a hint about what you endorse as unbiased sources. National Post? Canwest? Global?

Almost all news sources in North America are heavily biased. (That includes the New York Times.) They always have been since the development of the modern newspaper almost a hundred and fifty years ago.

The CBC is far the least biased news service on this continent. It has to back off some topics because of political pressure. But, in general, it is far, far the best in the business.

For other news services, I would suggest The Guardian (Britain) and Haaretz (Israel). (no, I would not suggest BBC which has gone sadly downhill.)

There are also some good sources on the web - Rabble.ca has columns by excellent Canadian journalists. There's Common Dreams, Information Clearing House, The Saker, Global Research, The Intercept.

And, of course, there is the ultimate source - The Decarie Report.

But I know of NO commercial news medium (except Guardian and Haaretz) that can be trusted. Almost all commercial news media are owned by the very, very wealthy - who use them for propaganda to benefit themselves. Down here, we have Brunswick News, owned by our local billionaire. It is the worst newspaper chain I have ever seen. - nothing but trivia, sob stories.... And always favourable to the billionaire. I read a paper carefully - but every day I get through my local Moncton Times and Transcript in two minutes - tops.l

I think Jae is claiming/trolling that Ontario and Alberta have such dissimilar economic systems that they cannot be compared. I'm quite fed up with his recent attitude; this chronic Jekyll/Hyde shift makes me a bit nauseous.

Bette,
Maybe you didn’t read that then. Our economy has been decimated and they seem to think there is nowhere to go but up. Our current govt is being run by bag boys and lawnmower pushers. Only one- that’s right one educated lawyer. Lots of people have lost their jobs and have been living off their packages that are going to run out and then the foreclosures start. Have started. We are not leading anything.

Facts trump anecdotes.

I'm not saying that the Canadian economy is in perfect shape. I'm stating the fact that, in terms of economic growth, in the last year, Alberta had the highest growth rate. Resource-based economies are always somewhat unstable because of the global nature of their markets.

CBC is clearly biased. Witness its news coverage of the last American election. Everything it spouted regarding Clinton was good - if she and/or supporters alleged something against Trump, by golly it had to be true. Meanwhile, CBC said nothing but what was negative when it came to Trump. CBC unbiased. Puhlease.

Bette, Ontario and Alberta are different contexts. Just because something happened one way in Alberta does not mean that it will happen the same in the different context of Ontario. If it's trolling for me to share that with you, meh.

Any specific examples you can name?

I don't have anything to prove. You made a statement, which you can't seem to back up with examples. The ball's in your court, not mine.

And I've already shared that I'm not going to take the time. You're jumping to the unfortunate conclusion that I could not if I did take the time. That's just your opinion Captain, and you're welcome to it.

News bias is revealed by a number of factors. For example, there is omission of information. Most of our news media have made North Korea evil - without mentioning seventy years of mass killing, nuclear threats (with the weapons in South Korea), imposed poverty on North Korea.... There has been virtually no mention of US paying and equipping ISIS and other terrorist groups. The war in Iran with a million and a half dead gets no mention of that fact that it was illegal, and fought on false grounds. And when our news media were told that Hussein's son killed people for the fun of it by putting them feet first into a meat grinder - the media reported it with no proof at all. It did not tell us that the U.S. has invaded some 70 countries since 1945 - or that it assisted in the murder of 200,000 indigenous Maya in Guatemala. (The kill included large numbers of priests and nuns. Did you ever read that anywhere, jae?)

ALL of these invasions and killings have been carried out to satisfy the greed of big business. Ever read or hear about that in your news?

And did you ever read about how the U.S. created and trained and equipped al quaeda? Get much news about the cruelty, murder, and environmental destruction by Canadian mining companies in Latin America and Africa?

And where is the big expose of Canadian billionaires who haven't paid taxes for years. that's billions of dollars we don't have for education , health, alleviation of poverty.... And in the U.S., it's trillions of dollars.

Oh, and can you tell me who are those reliable news media who praised Trump in his campaign?

Fox comes most immediately to mind. Certainly not the Clinton News Network.

That's right, how can a spring 2017 report, know which province will lead Canada in growth for 2017?
They are just taking the word of our finance minister who is not even qualified to be a book keeper let alone accountant.

I have professionals asking if they can do labour for me to reduce the price of fixing up their houses to sell. To save a few bucks.
