Greens and Blooms

If anyone's interested, I went back to the fancy older neighbourhood I scooted through last week. Didn't get to the beachfront today - a bit windy, and for a fancy neighbourhood the roads and sidewalks are not in good repair, and some have really high curb cuts. Too bumpy. Not in the mood for ATVing today! :giggle:

This was around a gate in front of someone's yard. It's huge. The photo doesn't quite capture that. It looks really grand.

This was in front of the same place, on the other side. I thought the petals falling off and spilling onto the grass looked pretty.image.jpeg

Who says fried eggs don't grow on trees?

why is it that dandelions duck when the lawn mower comes?

Mine don't, it's just that the low lying ones get under the mower (I don't cut too close in spring, advice I got a long time ago) and survive while the big ones get chopped off. Of course, over time that should mean only short dandelions survive and breed leading to ...

EVOLUTION!!!

Lawn-mower proof dandelions lie in our distant future.:LOL:

(or maybe I am just being silly on my off day)

I understand that dandelions are in the sunflower family. That may be an urban legend. I don't know. I like the idea. :)

They are, but it's a huge taxonomic family that covers a vast number of plants (daisies and ragweed are in there, too) so it's kind of like two humans being fifth cousins or something. There are 1911 genera in the family and each genus can contain many species.

Actually, I just thought that, too today.

Wow, that's an impressive rhododendron.

That dandelions are evolving to be lawnmower-proof or that I am silly? :giggle:
That every time I cut off the tall dandelions the ones that have the blooms just above the ground so that the lawn mower don’t catch them have an evolutionary advantage to spread their seed, hence, I am guilty of making myself lawn mowing resistant dandelions.
