Greens and Blooms

For something different, this was so cute. I got permission from the owner who was outside painting on the part out of the frame. She has piercings and tattoos. But the house is so 1950's! Or 60-70's. She was wearing one of those triangle folded scarves over her hair, like both my mom and my grandma wore in photos I have of them in their yards.

I put and old-timey Kodachrome style filter on it, because it just has that vibe. Btw, she said those were fake flower pots. Fake Blooms! Lol.

She tried plant some things and the soil was too clay like and she's not a gardener, so she said "screw it".

It reminds me of a design I created in my interior design app (which no longer exists. The company closed and the app expired.) years ago. I made a couple of exterior designs with the tools.

I'm accidentally on memory lane right now - literally! I used to go down this path to school. I remember near the end of the school year there being thousands of fuzzy orange and black caterpillars on this path, under that tree. That ivy wasn't as bountiful - there's a rock under there - and they were everywhere, on the path and I couldn't avoid stepping on them - I seem to remember sandals - but I squished a few, in any case, whatever shoes I was wearing. :( I forgot about this path. image.jpeg

This is a lovely tree I am not familiar with. The photo doesn't do it justice. It's overcast today, and the tree was a bit too far back.View attachment 3652View attachment 3653
This might be a variation of the African Tuliptree, or Flame of the Forest. I just read that it's now considered invasive in some South Pacific countries.

It would look prettier if some of the invasive species took over, imo! What's the big deal about keeping a plain lawn and ordinary green shrubs, and having all the same flowers your neighbours have? (That's another reason why the fake flowers in the above photo are kind of funny!)

I've noticed a lot of Rhodos, and they're getting boring. Because every second or third house has them. I like when I come across something pretty but unusual. At first I thought the magenta, red and white rhododendrons together were special, but lots of people are planting them close together.

I'm very curious to know what the tree is with the large yellow flowers - it almost looks like a hibiscus ... do they grow outdoors in BC?

If so, they're not common. I think this was the first one I've ever noticed. Lots of shades of purple, pink and white trees, and the brilliant yellow golden chain, but not that shade of orange coloured trees, sort of orange buttercup orange - the colour of the above weeds, lol...(some Rhodos are peachy coloured).

Garden plants may be better able to thrive after today's work. A daughter, SIL and two grandsons pitched in to get it done. Dead grasses removed, grass cleaned up, perennials sorted out, edges trimmed - quite amazing. Had a rather nice lunch with burgers made by hubby on buns made by me.
