I think that the plastic cover, plus the raised bed, might be probably okay. But I don't know that I'd put the tomatoes or peppers in until the weather gets a bit warmer there.

If it was end of season yes. With the beginning they aren't as hardened off to cold weather, plus the cold can stunt the plants, so wait a bit.

Thanks. The tomatoes I bought are already so tall, the first one is growing tomatoes already. Is this Covid year making me impatient or is it really too cold for end of May?
I remember last year I was too early without a cover and the tomatoes never really recovered from that. I am tired of carrying them in and out every day. I suppose, I have to wait til the end of next week.

Love your garden shelter! You might need to open it up a bit during the day to normalize temps & humidity build-up. If you can, I would wait a bit longer to put the tomatoes out tho. They may survive the colder temps, but apparently it will diminish production of fruit in both tomatoes & peppers.

It depends on weather a bit. Sometimes I end up covering but that's if it was warm and scheduled warm for after and then it gets pretty cool. If knowing it's going to be cool, I prefer to wait.

My problem is that I have to leave early for work, so they would get uncovered for the day when it is still cool. A bit of a reversed sauna effect. Wish I was retired.

Bumping this thread, so as not to take over Room For all with garden thread.

fI was wandering around a nursery when the skies opened up. I definitely got drenched.
Drove home, and was in & out of rain, sometimes blinding all the way home.

I was a day early for a garden tour, but, the person still gave me one, and i came home with a load of plants. She is working on my yard with me, so, it was a great hour spent. Lots of opportunities.

Plants are outside now getting rained on.

so yesterday, I was poking around the lowest level of rock garden, and decided to try and identify a bush.
This bush was really creeping over the lowest layer of the rock garden.

Imagine my disappointment to identify that it was likely a bush honeysuckle of the invasive kind: Tatarian
It did explain what was happening to the bed.

I cut back a bunch of the lower branches to help with the determination. It made me fairly confident that I was right, but, to know for sure, I would have to find images of the flowers or berries...as my memory isn't that great.

Showed the picture to my garden expert, and she confirmed, and not just that, but, due to how it sends out suckers, odds are, this one will require bush roundup to kill.

Picked up a bunch of plants to go in it's place. will start taking out the bush next week. sigh. Might work on the ditch lilies at the same time.

Sumac will stay.

The good news is that I discovered a lovely edge of rock to the garden bed. Turns out it is about 5' wide, which is also a nice wide border.
