Glad to hear some positive news crazyheart

I know when my mom deteiorated we reached out to her friends as well as family. They had 40 years or mire of friendships and were onky too happy to be asked to drop in and visit. Go for walk.... They also all knew she was confused but they were a greatt help

Ah Crazyheart, I'm doing my darndest to make you smile........

But, when it came to the roofer, I fought hard for my country -it was my patriotic duty, no less.....

It was the Presidential debate of it's day - who would win the heart of the roofer, you or me.......
And there was no truth in the rumour that I took performance enhancing drugs. ;)

The virtue of Levitation ... right sunshine ... some say fool's goaled ...

Those looking the other way from the subject-object relation miss the opposing alchemii ... thus odd thoughts departed ... they become serial psychopaths like the Trumping rig ...

Crazyheart - you remain in my thoughts and prayers.
I just returned from a church retreat (see 'How Was Church'). I wish you could have come with me - away from the cares of the world for a couple of day. A time of renewal. To cry if you wanted to. To be surrounded by caring people. To sing and pray. To regain your strength to go on in the struggle you face.

CrazyDad is in the hospital 3 weeks today. He will be moving to a long term care home Friday

morning. BUT, it is in a small town off of #number 1 highway. it is about 1 hour and 15 minutes from

Regina. If you live in a large city this would not seem long but a city the size of Regina, it is

highway driving and I don't drive He can be moved to the city when there is an opening

but the video of the Care Home is wonderful . He will have his own room and bath. This would not

happen here. 4 to room is the norm. Our aim is that he will be comfortable for the rest of his time

and maybe this is where he might stay. We will work this out.

Crazyheart, I know from my experience with Mum how important it is to feel that you've chosen the best possible long term care for the rest of his life.
You've done the best you can, and can feel positive about that...........

As you don't drive, I'm sure your kids, grandkids will help you out.
Also, this is a time to request some help from your church. Even a simple request that if anyone is driving to the town where Crazydad will be, you would appreciate a ride?

Sending you a big hug!

That is good news he is moving out of acute care. Hospitals are not meant for people who need chronic care.

Distance is a problem. Driving is a problem

I really hope you reach out to friends and family and ask for help. Asking for help allows people to give help. And friends really want to help. They just often dont know. So ask for daily drives. It will work

Best wishes for the big move.

Deep breaths. Calm thoughts. Good drives

A mixed blessing for the Crazyheart family. I believe they are a resourceful lot and will find ways to make this situation work. I'm guessing too that there are other Regina families with members in that particular Care Home. Find them and arrange for rides!

It does sound like progress. There is a plan and a place to go to. The upside of not driving CH is that you will have companionship on your travels to visit. It is a ways but that is beyond your control. Hugs to you.

Crazyheart, I imagine that you are feeling both apprehension and relief at this news. Change is worrisome; knowing what is to happen can bring a sense of relief.
About travel - when Seelergirl had to have radiation she had to travel about the same distance - about one and a half hours from home - five days a week for five weeks - a total of 25 trips. People came out of the woodwork to drive her - Seelerman and I had to fight for our turn. A cousin of her husband wanted to have one day a week; a group of friends offered to cover Fridays; neighbours and people from the church filled in the other days. And some who couldn't offer to drive gave gas money or gift cards. Of course it was just for five weeks. But if you only go a couple of times a week, once you are satisfied that he is comfortable and settled, you could stretch 25 trips out over a quite awhile.
It never hurts to let your needs be known; and to accept offers of help from where they come.

It has been a few weeks, and I remember the struggle as my Dad adjusted. The little markers of successful transition such as being able to find way up/down elevator, joining a program, making a friend, stopping complaining.

How is the transition going? Are you getting more rest for yourself?

Here is an update. The long Term Care home that we chose for Crazydad, although, it is

a little over an hour away, is the best decision that the family has made. He is really settling in.

He likes the staff and the food. In the last while, he has become very reliant on structure. This is one of the

really good things about the facility. Everything is on schedule and he really likes that. Meds, meals, baths,

are at a certain time and this is calming to him.

The kids go out when they can and they aren't under the pressure that they were in the city. Because they were

closes by, the old guilt thing kicked in and they felt they had to go every day. This was wearing them

out and he was expecting it.

I go at least once a week. He doesn't want long visits. When it is time, he says "Thanks for coming."

He says he wants nothing for Christmas except the family. We have booked a room for

Boxing Day. We can take our own food. Cross your fingers, that the weather is good.

He really looks good. They have started physio to help the pain in his back and on the phone,

he told me he thought it would help. Til next time, Thank you all again.
