 Would love to see the evidence that backs that one!
Generally we just don't see that type of transmission. There was a condo in Calgary that was in the news for a while for a large outbreak, but I never saw any reliable source suggest it was being transmitted between multiple units and building outbreaks weren't common. My grandma's ward had a COVID outbreak, she was tested numerous times, had pneumonia but never COVID.
Never heard of transmissions through ventilation systems?

Condos, esp. newer ones, don't have shared ventilation systems. The one I rented for a year back in 99 had it's own heating and cooling in unit.
The apartment I was in I could definitely smell smoke from other units though. Mostly from the hallway, but sometimes it came through via the bathroom vents. With COVID within 1 household transmission is low if isolation procedures are carried out well. If someone is smoking in my house, I will notice!

Yeah, smoke can come under doors or through open windows that aren't necessarily a big risk with COVID.

Ours does too, but the hallways and lobby are vented. As are many nursing and retirement homes, schools, factories, stores, etc...

But where's the evidence of spread? I would think the R value would be much higher if it were spreading that way.

Given the rarity of outbreaks in high rises, though they have happened, I am not sure the risk is that great. I would certainly be taking precautions in public areas if I still lived in one, but it does not appear to be a major source of spread, as Chemgal indicates.

Yeah, I suspect shared hallways and elevators are part of the problem. It also sounded like there were some parties going on that were contributing to the problems.

Hopefully this means the 5-12 year olds will be getting vaccinated this month! Finger crossed we won't be waiting beyond that.

Ontario's health minister said today that the province has their ducks in a row so parents can start booking shots as soon as next week assuming the approval really does happen tomorrow.

Mines a low rise... I hate high rises...oh heck I hate apartments, miss the house. But anyway, I doubt if buildings get tested much, other than schools.
Now that shoppers and other drug stores will be testing symptomatic Covid clients....ventilation is a serious concern. There is some talk of doing it outside.

I'm glad I'm not a parent of young kids...not sure what I would do.
Covid is starting to look like its ahead of science...the vaccines aren't for the variants are they?

Registration has been open here for a while.

It covers the delta variant well which is why the booster wasn't updated.

People get tested and while things fell off I'm sure when the case load was high, when it was manageable where people picked it up was being tracked as much as reasonable with the information available. Almost all positive cases had a known postal code.

I would change that last line to all known cases had a known postal code
Even before nursing and retirement homes, factories were number 1 spreaders during the last big wave. Eg. Cargill

I wish I could copy and paste the site that compares the different vaccines effectiveness for Delta from my phone (dont know how to move it to this site off my phone)....Moderna surprised me.

In Alberta there are a few unknowns, posted as such. Probably due to transient situations.

It's definitely not as effective but virulence overall jumps up. It has been some of the reasoning provided by experts.
