Their age group wasnt given approval for Moderna....so consent is not an option.

It's possible to consent to things that Health Canada hasn't approved, although I doubt informed consent was given.
I'm wondering what way the mistake occurred though - was it thought they were being given Pfizer and the wrong vaccine was picked up?
Or was it thought that Moderna was the correct vaccine when they were given it?

No informed consent was given. The family didn't realize the girl had gotten the Moderna vaccine until after they got their shots and looked at the card.

So sounds like the latter mistake or else I would huess the card would say Pfizer, perhaps with a Moderna lot number jotted down?
I could see that happening with all the various dates for on label scheduling I keep forgetting between the 2 what is 28 days.

Mother was vaccinated first, then daughter, then, the person went to do the son, and went "oh s**t", as realized wasn't supposed to be giving that vaccine to a teenager, then, realized the daughter was also of the same age.

Sounds like a different situation. The article I posted said a dozen who were underage got it. Unless the person had done others before picking up on that.

It's what is referred to as a med error and the nurse? is responsible for it. She/He will have to fill out forms to explain and possibly other repercussions.

Something still feels a bit off. I wonder if there was a comment from one like oh it's great we can now get Pfizer and Moderna or something. Because to do it for 2 days and to randomly pick up on it seems odd to me.
With it being a mass clinic (I assume, convention center), I figured there would be a bit of slotting ie. Pfizer over there, Moderna over here.

The card said Moderna. That's what alerted the family.

2nd doses for all here - kinda. People who had it in March can book now, people in April book in 2 weeks, those in May book June 28. The appointment dates are not first come first serve either, although I don't know the nitty gritty yet.

I know someone who booked on Friday was able to get her second dose today. I called today and get mine on the 14th.

We need to get more vaccines in! Alberta is often lagging with what's given. Right after a delivery we still had less. Currently of the 4 provinces we have at minimum an addition 5% on the rate of utilization. Quebec and BC actually have more per capita vaccinated though, ON has less vaccinated, they are also quite a bit behind in terms of what they have used.

It's less of an approval ie. not Health Canada and more of a recommendation.

I'm annoyed with NACI I posted earlier about their recommendation about avoiding it - knowing more data was coming.
There was something about the mix and match study being delayed until the end of June when it was expected around now, not sure as to why. Preliminary data looks good though.
Their earlier recommendation wasn't based in science at all from what I could see ie. if 2nd dose of AZ not possible, follow up with J&J instead of an mRNA one.

Other countries have done this, the UK being a major one where a fair bit of the mix and match data is coming from.

I’m not impressed by Canada’s response compared to the UK. As soon as Pfizer released their data & vaccine, the UK quickly responded, approving it quickly. It was in early December if I recall correctly. The EU, a sluggish bureaucracy, said they’d look at the information after Christmas (!) Now Canada did approve it quickly but there was a long delay in actually getting it. I still don’t understand why.

We both have appointments for out second shots. Moderna (same as before) at a drug store. If a walk in clinic comes up sooner we can go and phone and cancel at the drugstore. seems simple - if it works!

After receiving the first dose of Pfizer in late April I was told there would be a four month for the second dose. That’s a very long time compared to what I’ve read about the UK and US. Just a few days ago, the news was that it would be available in July. It seems we are still having supply problems. The US has labs where they can manufacture it and we don’t. Then India, a major vaccine manufacturer, was hit with a huge spike with many deaths, said they could no longer export Covid vaccines.

There was a connection though with the development. If a Canadian university helped to develop a vaccine I would hope it would be here faster too.

BC is now giving second doses at about 8 weeks. Big improvement.
