There is no getting around the fact that Canada has done a Horrible job. Compared to just about every other industrialized country. Not even sure I can think of one scoring lower

The difference between us, is that you blame a person who is leader, and seem focused on blame, @Lastpointe .

What would you do right now if you were the leader.

who else can we blame for the governments lack of getting vaccines other than the government?

other countries have bought vaccines. Some countries moved fast to set up an ability to make their own. Some did both

we did neither. We didn’t rapidly set up production. We put all our eggs into the china government plans. Why? God only knows.
then, when it was much too late , we bought /ordered vaccines. We don’t know what they asked for and got because Trudeau won’t tell us. We don’t know anything. Other than Justin reassuring us that all will be well

do you believe that? Do you not wonder why all these other countries have surpassed us? Big countries and tiny countries. Do you not know folks who live in other countries who either have vaccines or have appointments?
I sure do. Family in Croatia we done. Friends in Florida are done, friends in Scotland have appointments
it is unfathomable how poorly they have managed this. And yet how they are skating on it.

we can see that they are scrambling. The latest begging from India is appalling. India. A massive country that has millions of poor living in close quarters. they need vaccinations. And we are begging PM Modi

i am shocked that people are not ashamed, appalled, angry, .......

You do understand that vaccines are made around the world, in many countries, right?
We purchase from the manufacturer, but, it is possible that the government of the country or economic region might choose to stop exports. We have seen that in the EU.
Given that, it is important to get assurance that the government will not block the exports of the vaccines that have been purchased.

More could have been done to help Providence. We still needed to purchase elsewhere but it could have gotten a local option further ahead. We should have also had the production options for other companies further ahead than what they currently are.

And what a company might negotiate, and what sort of subsequent xenophobic/protectionist government initiatives might interfere with the resultant contracts.

See, I think the Liberals and Conservatives are largely two sides of same corporate-owned coin. If all this Justin-bashing (which it is, really) changes anyone's mind, I would think that it would push them to the Greens and the NDP.

If everyone thinks that they could have done a lot better job in a pandemic with ever-changing science, parameters, and political games, they'd be proferring suggestions to Mr. Trudeau about how he should be changing course, and what exactly he should be doing. I'm not hearing that.

Of course Pinga I know that several countries are making vaccines. Countries like Britain that tooled up in March in order to be ready

most countries don’t make vaccines. Of the 40 odd countries doing better than us, let’s even guess that half make vaccines. Though I suspect it’s more like a quarter. That still means all the others are more successful at buying vaccines

do you honestly think they have done a good job? At anything? Doling out money without process appropriately done. How many 15 year olds actually needed CERB. A few for sure. Thousands? Unlikely.
not closing borders. Then sort of closing borders Then sort of quarantining people. Sort of
the list is endless of mis steps. Would others have made the same mistakes? Perhaps. Who knows

if he could bloody get parliament back perhaps our four opposition parties could get a few answers. And perhaps they have no better ideas. At this stage trying to stop the bleeding of mistakes is all they can do

do I like Trudeau. No. I think he is a light weight dilettante. Nothing this past year has shown anything different. Do I think the other four leaders might do better? I would Have liked to have seen debate and ideas from all four of them. Well the green leader needs a seat but she sure sounds competent. but no. Trudeau is hiding in his cottage and we are not having parliament debate anything

And if they can't work via teleconference, like most of the rest of the world is doing, I don't think you can blame that on Trudeau.

I don’t think most of the worlds governments are teleconferencing. I see Britain in, I see the USA in, I see Croatia in. Though those are the few countries I bother to watch

he is not being open. He is not being successful

lets list things they did well?

at first he provided a good model of please work at home
after pressure they provided some relief for businesses
they provided CERB but neglected to figure out the rules and so wasted millions if not billions
???

anything else?

You do realize that Britian has a much smaller distance to travel for a parliamentarian to get to parliament?
In Canada, one would have to travel across provincial borders (and live in quarantine as a result -- especially if in a 'bubble" area), and with current changes in travel and reduction in flights, things would not be simple.
You do get that right? We are much different.
I do not know if US senators are going back & forth, or if they are being recommended to stay in Washington. Do you have any specifics on that?

They are travelling

listen. I get that you like Trudeau and don’t see any problems with his efforts here. I disagree. I see nothing but waffling. I see nothing but lack of transparency. I see him with some pretty infective ministers

i think they likely have a big problem now getting members of parliament to parliament with most flights shut down. And it’s an issue. No question

but what honestly have they done promptly and right. I simply don’t know. To me, he is the most ineffective government I have seen in god knows how long

Some countries doing better than us, we are now at 40th

Maltq, Chili, Seychelles, Lithuania, Estonia, Romania

honestly. What does that say

You know, there is a thread about Trudeau in Politics. Just sayin'.

Some of this is straying off the subject of vaccines and vaccination.

True. How would you like to discuss the ranking of fortieth for our vaccinated Folks. The USA vaccinated more yesterday than we have altogether

just coincidence or perhaps government screw ups

How would you like to discuss the ranking of fortieth for our vaccinated Folks. The USA vaccinated more yesterday than we have altogether
Which would be on topic.

And, yes, the US is now well ahead of us. Depending on what state I was in, I might be up for my first jab now or soon. That is not based on news, but on what I'm hearing that from actual Americans who've had relatives vaccinated or been done themselves.

However, as you well know, I am already no fan of Trudeau even absent this whole thing so you're not really going to get much argument from me. I'm not that hung up on him being the problem, either. In my cynical way, I am not convinced that any of our parties would do better (maybe Green since they seem more inclined to look to NZ for their model).

From what I understand, Trudeau put most of his eggs in the European market to purchase vaccines, ignoring the US market because he was afraid that Trump would put a ban on letting the vaccines cross the border. Which I would say, is reasonable thinking while Trump was in power, after all his first concern is America. But unfortunately it was the European market that put the bans on the vaccine going out to certain other countries.
Now with Biden as president, perhaps he needs to approach that issue again to get more Moderna vaccines and possibly with the promise of a "donation" for the company once received.....a million dollar donation.....heck it's the price of a house in T.O.? Dolly did it, why can't we? From what I'm reading they are a fairly recent company, (10 years), and the vaccine seems to be a game changer for the company's financial success.....and money talks.
And perhaps there's a way to step up the construction of the buildings that are being built in Quebec to have our own vaccine facility up and running sooner.....it will be in partnership with Novavax who are based in Maryland in the USA. Maybe some incentive for them too? No taxes for 5 years? Research money? Although, can't say I know that much about Novavax vaccine other than it's 90% effective against Covid 19 and less so against the Covid variants. And what happens if the other two, Pfizer and Moderna end up being superior in effectiveness than the Novavax vaccine....are we still obligated to use it over the others because we are hosting a facility for them?

The following article states that the Novavax vaccine is different than the Pfizer and Moderna vaccine and doesn't use as "modern" a technology as the above two mRNA vaccines.

Anyway, I'm just brainstorming......anybody else got some ideas?

Also, do we know yet how effective the vaccines have been for countries that have received their doses? Are cases significantly dropping in those countries?
