Covid 19 Vaccine

I have questions:
1.)How long before the third dose or booster vaccine starts to wan, according to Pfizer research...not just politicians that are pushing for the third. Would I be right in saying no one knows?
2.) Shouldnt we take a rapid test before the third vaccine....if you get the vaccine when you have Covid (symptomatic or not), it's not as effective. I'd recommend the PCR test but that's not possible due to the time involved.
3.) When are the anti viral Covid pills from Merck and Pfizer, that can be taken during early onset of Covid, going to be approved? Because if they work, shouldnt that be part of our arsenal?

1. There's a bit of early data, nothing really final yet as far as I know of. I think there was info from BC that waiting 8 months gives a better response thsn 6 months, but that needs to be balanced with current cases and wanning immunity. I would have to look that up to be certain I have that correct. At this rate I expect many 4th doses could be a new vaccine.
2. I don't see it as necessary but if people want to they can.
3. We already have drugs that have been approved and should be used IMO. I hear of many in the US who get treatment. Not sure of the timeline for new ones. The smallest things seem to delay the process.

The medical authorities seem reluctant or unable to clearly explain the uncertainty around the dges of their recommendations which frustrate people looking for thorough guidance and undermines the trust of those who seek simple answers but remember when past advice was wrong. Most politicians seem to be making decisions on the basis of opinion polls rahter than science. For example, we know that fully vaccinated people are less likely to contract Covid, but we still can. Using rapid tests, even if they are only 70% effective, reduce risk by 70% of unexpected transmission. We can never get 1005 safety, but each safety measure reduces risks. 205 risk of getting infected if fully vaccinated times 30% risk of being infected in spite of a negative test = 6% risk of being infectious. If cloth masks reduce risk by 50%, wearing a cloth mask after rapid test and vaccination leaves 3% risk of infecting someone. Physical distancing, better masks, etc further reduce the risk, possibly to less than 1%. Explain to the public with numbers how each action further reduces risks. In ludes things like ensuring Vitamin levels in our bodies are adequate, getting rest, eating well, light exercise, and so on.

I'm concerned with where things are headed. Vaccine system is overwhelmed as they opened to 18+ here. Chemguy is booked in next week, I just called my pharmacist.
I'm annoyed with my 3rd dose, I got half of the amount it should have been. Ie. They treated me like a health care worker. The place I went it was the owner for the 1st 2, had she been there I think it would have been ok. I didn't pay enough attention to the 3rd shot dosages or else I would have double checked. With my immune system though maybe it was better I just wish testing was an option. I'm not on steroids all the time so maybe I am just st the right balance since I tend to over react to vaccines typically.

I am concerned about my dad too. Parents went for their 3rd but they got their 2nd in July. AHS is really sticking to the 6 month minimum. Mom got it because she had AZ for her 1st. Now my Dad has to try to get a spot with everyone 18+. I would just book him in somewhere here but he doesn't want to be driving feeling unwell.

Imagine challenging times for people determined that there are none ... thus nein!

Smooth sailing for those denying certain tempests ... indeterminate disturbances in the conspiracy as a wild plot?

Considering what we know is this all beyond that? Chaos ... count the metaphors ...

well ChemGal, Ontario was sticking to its 6 month min elapsed time too - until they suddenly weren't. So stay tuned - things may change in Alberta too.
They went down to 5 months today. It was about a week and a half ago my parents had an appointment. They were especially annoyed as they did go through AHS, so why even allow an appointment if not eligible?

Yes. It's crazy making. Back in the fall they had appointments that weren't being filled. Why the heck didn't they reduce the target age or the 168 day requirement? When the interval became 84 days it made me think about the arbitrariness of all the policies in this province

I think some of the issue is getting the best protection. But things should have been stepped up when travel bans were placed.

Yes, it was six months since your second when they first announced the boosters; now, suddenly, it's three. For some reason, I think that science is driving less and less of this...
It's something I get. 6-8 months is best long term. We're balancing that with short term risks though with waiting that long. Short term risks have changed.

I'm just fed up with the lack of foresight. This could have easily been a change Dec 1 or earlier.

Probably should listen to what the manufacturer of the vaccines says are the proper intervals.
That shifts with evidence. Originally there was no 3rd dose planned. The gamble done earlier on with extending the 2nd dose timeframe paid off. I complained about that early on because it became policy without a study. The general population was entered into an experiment. 8 weeks is now the minimum between the first 2 doses and 2nd to 3rd if 3 are used as the primary series. That's not an experiment.

Currently we know long term protection is best if a booster comes a minimum of 6 months after the last dose. We also know 3rd doses are more effective when it comes to Omicron rather yhan just 2 doses. So currently we are choosing to get max short term protection asap over long lasting protection. When it comes to ling term I suspect we'll be shifting to a different mRNA sequence anyway. Ie. 4th or maybe 5th doses will be something new.

I'm guessing that sooner rather than later, yearly COVID and influenza shots will be a combo deal.

Well, not for you, my dear, but for the general, "this is what I have to get done in fall", population, yes?
