Covid 19 Vaccine

We both got Boostered this morning. I've been sneezing and blowing my nose ever since. Hopefully it doesn't mean anything!
Not easy to get them around here right now, but we are both booked with the health unit

And sneezing and blowing is Tuesday for me once winter hits so I wouldn't even notice if that was a side effect.

We had no difficulty at all with booking. I phoned and got an appointment on my 6 month date for a few weeks into the future. Hubby phoned once he met the criteria and they did the two of us to save us another trip. We went to a local drugstore, but there were other places doing shots. The one run by the Health Region is Walk In and people are saying it doesn't mean lining up.

The Ontario provincial website for booking is so useless. I could only get on pharmacy wait lists for who knows when. In looking for public health clinics, it didn't even direct me to the ones here in my own community. So tonight after supper I went over to the nearest public health clinic & yes, they do take walk-ins! So I got in line, and was done and out in just over an hour.

Meanwhile Ford was on TV today telling EVERYONE go get your boosters - it's SO important - we've got lots of everything!! Everything but appointments I suppose. What a political grand-standing farce. Today the time span from last dose dropped from 6 months to 3; on Monday boosters will be open to everyone over 18. Good luck - the rush will be crazy.

After Ford spoke, the CBC radio spoke with Dr. Peter Juni, the scientific director of the Ontario Covid 19 science advisory table.
Asked if he agreed with Ford's plan...he more or less said not much of it.
Stated yes we need vaccine boosters, testing, etc...but he felt that vaccines are not going to be the way out, but more likely the way we behave.
He wasnt impressed with the lack of closures and felt we need to be on that right now.
He then read an email from colleagues in the UK in response to Dr. Juni's question on what the real situation was like over there. There response was basically, " we're in serious trouble" Hospitalizations are up and deaths.

Now in S. Africa, they are starting to see young children being the ones who are getting sick and increasing more now.

So basically, in my own thinking....let's use our brains...we dont need the health dept or Doug Ford to tell us what to do...we need to stay home more, less visiting, dont be out shopping in crowds and realize Christmas should be limited. Let's give the gift that doesn't "give" Covid.....IMO
I've also read rapid test should also be done 3 hours before arrival.

I heard on the news they are advising kids to take all personal belongings home at the start of christmas vacation,...its in case they dont get to go back in January.

One of my team has his kids attending a religious private school and they've already gone virtual. But, yeah, the two main boards here put that out today.

Does the rapid test detect Omicran?
I would be surprised if they don't. Would be good to see a quick study out though, I think the sensitivity may shift. It would be easy to make new ones that would be a better match though if the sensitivity is lower.

My observations around Covid indicate that government uses lots of words but little useful, accessible information. The online pages are usually challenging to navigate and are often out of date. The bottom line seems to be protect yourself from infection if you can. Getting shots into arms would be quicker, cheaper and easier if the appointment system was scrapped completely. Have Walk In locations convenient to where people are. Remember that some people don't have vehicles and are unable to walk far.

If Christmas in injured ... will the economic monster be crippled?

What will folk gain in the loss ... a hole in the rush? Err ... wasn't that was Christmas was for in the beginning ...

Time out from what I learned in kindergarten ...

In Nova Scotia they used libraries to hand out rapid tests (very successfully) because they were already placed in various neighbourhoods.

They have a walk in in my local mall but there's significant lineups and they often end up handing out time cards so you can leave and come back at a particular time. That only goes until New Year's as it stands right now, though, unless the mall owner lets them have the space longer. This predated the current situation and was mainly designed to capitalize on Christmas shopping to get more people to get their shots, esp. kids.

Walk ins work when many people don't want one all at once. Many pharmacies here are doing walk ins when demand isn't highand there were walk in mass clinics too. Walk ins aren't great though when many people all at once want one. That results in people showing up before opening hours, long lines, etc.

I think the AB covid info has a fair bit of useful information, not sure how it could be improved with how it's shared. There have been glitches but with frequent updates and the amount of info being gathered quickly I think that would happen anywhere. There's more info I would like but overall it's quite well done. I wish Canada's page was better and if there was a little more consistency across all provinces - easy to find sites all linked to the Canadian one.

I did walk in for my third shot. They had a mix of walk in and appointments. They were giving priority to the people with appointments so the walk in line grew longer. I waited quite some time to get in. They did adjust the process and that helped speed things up a bit. I like the ability to just show up. I wouldn't want that as the only option.

Locally Walk In clinics are set up in a huge community hall with about twenty well spaced tables. Tables are staffed according to need. Keeps them coming but doesn't keep them waiting.

There was a line-up at the clinic where I went. Was maybe 20 minutes later than I booked but I figure the goal for the appointments isn't so much to guarantee you a time as to control the flow a bit. No signs or symptoms yet, which is good. Sore arm usually starts pretty soon after a shot for me.

Hubby and I both have bothersome reactions following yesterday's shot. Same for us both but hubby's is a bit worse. Sore arm, aches and pains, tiredness.

Fortunately, neither of us has to cook tonight. A local restaurant is doing a Food Bank fundraiser. BBQ riblets, fries and salad for $15. ALL the proceeds going to the Food Bank plus a matching donation from the Kin Club. The Kin are also providing labour.

Yep, but they didn’t have enough. We went after work the next day and they were all out. Hoping they will get another supply soon.
NS had the seventh day more than 100 new infections, today the sad daily record of almost 300. School will end early( tomorrow) , because they have so many staff quarantining.

My appointment was for January 7, but we lealve for Coast Rica, hopefully, on January 9. The pharmicist will try to get me in earlier.
