@paradox3 - just want to pop in a word of thanks to you - I have been enjoying your reflections throughout the thread & the way that you pose thoughtful questions gives me lots to ponder - whether or not I share my thoughts here, I am pondering. So thanks for that.

Todays Scripture

Luke 17:20-37 AMP

20 Now having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He replied, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed or with a visible display; 21 nor will people say, ‘Look! Here it is!’ or, ‘There it is!’ For the kingdom of God is among you [because of My presence].”

Second Coming Foretold

22 Then He said to the disciples, “The time will come when you will long to see[even] one of the days of the Son of Man, and you will not see it.

23 They will say to you, ‘Look [the Messiah is] there!’ or ‘Look [He is] here!’ Do not go away [to see Him], and do not run after them.

24 For just like the lightning, when it flashes out of one part [a]of the sky, gives light to the other part [b]of the sky, so [visible] will the Son of Man be in His day.

25 But first He must suffer many things and be repudiated and rejected and considered unfit [to be the Messiah] by this[unbelieving] generation.

26 And just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the [c]time of [the second coming of] the Son of Man:

27 the people were [d]eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, [they were indifferent to God] until the day that Noah went into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.

28 It was the same as it was in the days of Lot. People were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building [carrying on business as usual, without regard for their sins];

29 but on the [very] day that Lot left Sodom it rained fire and brimstone (burning sulfur) from heaven and destroyed them all.

30 It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is revealed.

31 On that day, whoever is on the housetop, with his belongings in the house, must not come down [and go inside] to take them out; and likewise whoever is in the field must not turn back.

32 Remember [what happened to] Lot’s wife [when she looked back]!

33 Whoever seeks to save his [e]life will [eventually] lose it [through death], and whoever loses his life [in this world] will keep it [from the consequences of sin and separation from God].

34 I tell you, on that night [when Messiah comes again] there will be two [sleeping] in one bed; the one (the non-believer) will be taken [away in judgment] and the [g]other (the believer) will be left.

35 There will be two women grinding [at the mill] together; the [h]one (the non-believer) will be taken [away in judgment] and the other (the believer) will be left.

36 [i][Two men will be in the field; [j]one will be taken and the other will be left.”]

37 And they asked Him, “Where, Lord?” He answered, “Where the corpse is, there the vultures will be gathered.”

unsafe says -----In Verses 20-21 we see the Pharisees asking Jesus when the Kingdom of God will be coming ----Jesus answers them with a short to the point answer -----

He replied, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed or with a visible display; 21 nor will people say, ‘Look! Here it is!’ or, ‘There it is!’ For the kingdom of God is among you [because of My presence].”

the Greek word for observed here is

Observation, Observe [Noun] parateresis "attentive watching" (akin to paratereo, "to observe"), is used in Luke 17:20, of the manner in which the kingdom of God (i.e., the operation of the spiritual kingdom in the hearts of men) does not come, "in such a manner that it can be watched with the eyes" (Grimm-Thayer), or, as AV marg., "with outward show."

unsafe says ----
Jesus is telling them that the Kingdom of God will not be seen in any way shape or form ----The Kingdom of God certainly resided in the person of Jesus Christ and He was among them -----they were blinded in their belief of who Jesus really was ----

Jesus is the King of the Kingdom ----so you if want the Kingdom to come you can reject the King who is the only one who can give you the coming Kingdom ------

unsafe says ---Then He turns His attention to His Disciples and talks to them about the Second Coming ----and He tells them that when He is gone they would be wanting His return -----and not to get caught up in all the false Prophets that will come claiming to be the Messiah -----Satan knows their weaknesses and will pray on deceiving them to believe that the false messiah is the real one ---

Verse 25 ---25 But first He must suffer many things and be repudiated and rejected and considered unfit [to be the Messiah] by this[unbelieving] generation.

unsafe says ---Before the Kingdom of God can come Jesus must die and suffer by and through this unbelieving generation ----who refuse to believe in who Jesus is and why He has come -----to Save all from spiritual torment if they believe in Him -----

Verses 26-30 -----26 And just as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be in the [c]time of [the second coming of] the Son of Man:
27 the people were [d]eating, they were drinking, they were marrying, they were being given in marriage, [they were indifferent to God] until the day that Noah went into the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
28 It was the same as it was in the days of Lot. People were eating, they were drinking, they were buying, they were selling, they were planting, they were building [carrying on business as usual, without regard for their sins];
29 but on the [very] day that Lot left Sodom it rained fire and brimstone (burning sulfur) from heaven and destroyed them all.
30 It will be just the same on the day that the Son of Man is revealed.

unsafe says -----By using Noah and Lot as an example Jesus is showing that the coming of the Son of Man will be a surprise just like the flood was to people ----they are going about their daily business and all of a destruction came and destroyed them all ---and Jesus is saying it will be the same when the Son of Man is revealed -----

Verses 31-33 ------
31 On that day, whoever is on the housetop, with his belongings in the house, must not come down [and go inside] to take them out; and likewise whoever is in the field must not turn back.

32 Remember [what happened to] Lot’s wife [when she looked back]!

33 Whoever seeks to save his life will [eventually] lose it [through death], and whoever loses his life [in this world] will keep it [from the consequences of sin and separation from God].

unsafe says ----These are an important verses here ------it is giving a warning ---Don't stay attached to this world -----don't rely and pursue money and stuff ----when storms come many try and save their possessions ----it is better to loose your possessions and have your heart not in your house but have your heart on what lies in Heaven where when you die you will live forever ----all material in this Physical is temporal for all of us -----eternal life or death is the rest of the story after this life is over -----

We do not know when Jesus is coming back so we should be diligent to get our lives in order to make sure we are ready ----Noah didn't know when the Flood was coming but he keep building the ark to prepare cause he believed God would do as He said when the right time came -----Lot lost his wife cause she disobeyed God and looked behind and she turned to a pillar of salt -----we need to believe and obey God's word and be prepared for Jesus return

Verses 34-36 -----34 I tell you, on that night [when Messiah comes again] there will be two [sleeping] in one bed; the one (the non-believer) will be taken [away in judgment] and the other (the believer) will be left.

35 There will be two women grinding [at the mill] together; the one (the non-believer) will be taken [away in judgment] and the other (the believer) will be left.

36 Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other will be left.”

unsafe says -----We see these verses are about Judgment and the prepared and the unprepared ---Jesus will judge everyone individually no matter where you are going about your business ---it could be in the day or night ----one takes heed to His coming and believes ----the other in unbelief and is unprepared ----- how awful it will for false Christians when they find themselves forced by the Lords direction -----

Verse 37---- And they asked Him, “Where, Lord?” He answered, “Where the corpse is, there the vultures will be gathered.”

unsafe says -----This verse ---to understand this we need to see what the word corpse and vultures in the Greek means for this scripture ------

Corpse
sóma: a body
Original Word: σῶμα, ατος, τό
Part of Speech: Noun, Neuter
Transliteration: sóma
Phonetic Spelling: (so'-mah)
Definition: a body
Usage: body, flesh; the body of the Church.
HELPS Word-studies

4983 sṓma – the physical body.

as everywhere in Homer (who calls the living body δέμας and not infreqently in subsequently Greek writings, a dead body or corpse: universally, Luke 17:37; of a man,

Vulture

aetos: an eagle
Original Word: ἀετός, οῦ, ὁ
Part of Speech: Noun, Masculine
Transliteration: aetos
Phonetic Spelling: (ah-et-os')
Definition: an eagle
Usage: an eagle, bird of prey.

Luke 17:37 where there are sinners (cf. πτῶμα), there judgments from heaven will not be wanting'.

unsafe says ----Warning Here -------This verse is about Sin and Punishment for unbelievers -------So we see that the disciples are asking where will this judgment take pace -----and Jesus says ---- where the dead are ---(people who are dead in their sins ) -----the vultures ( the birds of Prey ) will come and they will be their punishment -------So Jesus never realty answers their question of where this takes place --he leaves them to themselves on that ------but the Disciples know how quickly birds of prey come in numbers when there is a dead body ----so He left it at that --

Correction on this statement I made above ------can should be can't -------------Jesus is the King of the Kingdom ----so you if want the Kingdom to come you can't reject the King who is the only one who can give you the coming Kingdom ------

just to clarify

I don't worry much about the second coming. I just try to live by light of the Spirit around me and within me.

Back in Matthew we read that 'I am with you always, even 'til the end.' Here, and several other places in the Gospels that we have read so far, we are told that the kingdom of God is near at hand, the kingdom of God is within. It has been compared to a seed hidden in the soil and growing, a musutard seed tha grows into a mighty tree rather than a bush, yeast growing in the bread, treasure hidden in the field. It is something of great value.

Although Luke puts these words into the mouth of Jesus, the pre-Easter human, they seem to me to refer to the spiritual side of Jesus – the Christ. Doesn't the Trinity regard God as One - One identity known as Creator, Christ, and Spirit? I believe that One God is with us always, dwelling within us, shining forth in the Spirit. I believe that Christ will come again - and again, and again. Perhaps Christ is not recognized. Perhaps Christ will come when we least expect to experience an epiphany – in the form of a stranger, perhaps someone of a different race, or a different gender. Many people in Hebrew Scriptures, and during the time of Jesus' life on earth, people expected warrior king to defeat their enemies, and to rule over them. The prophet Isaiah told them to expect a suffering servant, a humble person. Why, if God decided to visit earth again in human form, would it be as a King.

When we see the face of Christ in everyone we meet, and try to be as to up Christ to them, the kingdom is near at hand growing in our midst.

By grace, the love of God surrounds us. If there is judgment, it is that we judge ourselves and others as being unworthy.

This is the scripture in Matthew you quote there Seeler ------Jesus is sending out His Disciples who believe who Jesus is and believe in His words -----so He is speaking to Believers in Jesus and His word ---He isn't speaking to people who do not believe who He is and don't believe in what He was Preaching on which is Salvation -----anyone who goes against what God's word says is not believing in His Word ------and anyone who Preaches something different that what God's words says is deemed in scripture not by any Person but by God Himself ==as A False Prophet and Believers are to stay away from them ------

Matthew 28 AMP

The Great Commission
16 Now the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain which Jesus had designated. 17 And when they saw Him, they worshiped Him; but some doubted [that it was really He]. 18 Jesus came up and said to them, “All authority (all power of absolute rule) in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.

19 Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations [help the people to learn of Me, believe in Me, and obey My words], baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,

20 teaching them to observe everything that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always [remaining with you perpetually—regardless of circumstance, and on every occasion], even to the end of the age.”

unsafe says
Your taking this scripture out of context and twisting it to suit your own belief and you are wrongly dividing the word of God ----Jesus is speaking to His Believers Here not unbelievers -------

A lot of the imagery in this passage seems to have been inspired by the sacking of Jerusalem in 70 CE. The advice given to those seems to be 'get out of the way pronto!' Don't go pack up your possessions. If you're in the field, don't turn back. Just go! Seems like odd advice for a second coming.

Summary: Luke 18: 1 - 8

Jesus told them a parable about the need to pray always and not lose heart.

In a certain city, there was a judge who neither feared God nor respected people. In that city, there was a widow who kept coming to him and requesting justice against her opponent. For a while he refused but later he decided to grant her justice so she would not wear him out by continually bothering him.

The Lord says, listen to the unjust judge. Will not God grant justice to his chosen ones who cry out to him day and night? Will he delay long in helping them?

God will quickly grant justice to them. Yet when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?

Reflection: Luke 18: 1 - 8

A few days ago we had the parable of the dishonest manager and now we have an unjust judge. Interesting that Jesus is making use of another unsavory character in today's text.

Who are the chosen ones in this lesson, do you think?

We are assured that God will respond quickly to pleas for justice yet this is a lesson about praying continuously. Maybe we are meant to consider other types of prayer as we ponder this parable.

Why did Jesus question if the Son of Man would find faith on earth?

Todays Scripture

Luke 18:1-8 GW

God Will Help His People
18 Jesus used this illustration with his disciples to show them that they need to pray all the time and never give up. 2 He said, “In a city there was a judge who didn’t fear God or respect people. 3 In that city there was also a widow who kept coming to him and saying, ‘Give me justice.’

4 “For a while the judge refused to do anything. But then he thought, ‘This widow really annoys me. Although I don’t fear God or respect people, 5 I’ll have to give her justice. Otherwise, she’ll keep coming to me until she wears me out.’”

6 The Lord added, “Pay attention to what the dishonest judge thought. 7 Won’t God give his chosen people justice when they cry out to him for help day and night? Is he slow to help them? 8 I can guarantee that he will give them justice quickly. But when the Son of Man comes, will he find faith on earth?”

unsafe says -----There are 2 People mentioned here ---The Judge and the Widow -----Remember this Scripture is is about Praying always ------So this Parable is about a Spiritual message not a Physical message -----

The Judge Has no reverence for God ----He represents an unbeliever who had no regard for a persons Spiritual rights --he was an unjust Judge ----- he was defying God's vengeance and despising the opinion of mankind in general ----

God is a righteous Judge and will look after His Children ------and al who claim to be of God

The Widow represents the defenseless one who has no protection from their adversaries ----The Widow was asking for Justice in being protected from her enemies -----People in power can take advantage of one who has no one to protect them -----

We see this in Acts 6 ---

Acts 6(AMP)
Choosing of the Seven
6 Now about this time, when the number of disciples was increasing, a complaint was made by the [a]Hellenists (Greek-speaking Jews) against the [[b]native] Hebrews, because their widows were being overlooked in the daily serving of food.

unsafe says ----
The Widow had one weapon against the Judge -----she was persistent in her asking ---till finally the Judge has enough of her being constantly at him to help her and so he finally did as she wanted

unsafe says -----All True Christians are or should be fervent --steadfast persistent praying in Faith Christ-ians ----We are to pray always as that is our only communication to God ----our cries and woes are heard and God never tires of hearing even the smallest of His Children's prayers ---God delights in our constant prayers to Him ---God will always provide quick protection for His Children and will always avenge our adversaries with a vengeance keeping His Children safe ----We are to pray always for Jesus return ---

verse 8 --- speaks The Son of Man's return ---- and will He find anyone who has True Faith ----Faith in the unseen Realm ------Many proclaim to have Faith but they only say it with their lips not their hearts -----The Pharisees are a perfect example of proclaiming to have Faith but their faith is a false faith and their are many today who are like the Pharisees ----they just mouth the word faith like they do saying they are a Christian but their hearts are far from God ----Many religions today preach false faith -----

unsafe says ----So how many true Faith Jesus followers will Jesus really find when He returns -------That is the real question being asked here by Jesus Himself in verse 8 ------

So how many true Faith Jesus followers will Jesus really find when He returns -------That is the real question being asked here by Jesus Himself
The answer to His question just might surprise us all.

Tomorrow's lesson has a lot to say about those who consider themselves righteous and have contempt for others.

I think we need to keep in mind that Jesus keeps turning all our expectations upside down. The first will be last and the last will be first and so on.

paradox3 ----your quote ---I think we need to keep in mind that Jesus keeps turning all our expectations upside down. The first will be last and the last will be first and so on.

unsafe says ---better do some research on what you are saying here ----as you just might be surprised on what the real truth is in your upside down expectations ------especially on the first will be last ----The Pharisees thought they were first and the Gentiles were last but the first refused to believe in who Jesus was so they rejected Him and became last ---and the last accepted Him so they took over the first -----

Jesus works on way ---receive Him and be saved ----Period ----otherwise your out and SOL -----

can't wait for tomorrow's Scripture ------

The Judge Has no reverence for God ----He represents an unbeliever who had no regard for a persons Spiritual rights --he was an unjust Judge ----- he was defying God's vengeance and despising the opinion of mankind in general ----

God is a righteous Judge and will look after His Children ------and al who claim to be of God

The Widow represents the defenseless one who has no protection from their adversaries ----The Widow was asking for Justice in being protected from her enemies -----People in power can take advantage of one who has no one to protect them -----

I'm not sure what message you are getting from this.

First you say the bad judge is an unbeliever, and that the good judge (unmentioned in this story) is god.

Got that, but then you notice that "good" or "bad" judge, the judge does righteously for the widow. It might have been a case of doing the right thing (justice for the widow) for the wrong reason (because he wanted her to stop pestering him), but the end result is equally good for the widow.

My question is, where does the bad judge as unbeliever fit into this story?

Summary: Luke 18: 9 - 14

Jesus told this parable to some who trusted in themselves they were righteous and regarded others with contempt.

Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and one a tax collector. The Pharisee, standing by himself, was thanking God he was not like other people: thieves, rogues, adulterers, even the tax collector who was there. The Pharisee remarked that he fasts twice a week and gives a tenth of his income.

The tax collector, standing far off, would not even look up to heaven. He was beating his breast and saying, "God be merciful to me, a sinner."

Jesus said, this man went home justified rather than the other. All who exalt themselves will be humbled and all who humble themselves will be exalted.

BetteTheRed ------your quote ----My question is, where does the bad judge as unbeliever fit into this story?

unsafe says ----BetteTheRed all scripture points to the Spiritual -----not the physical ------there is a spiritual message in all scripture ----that is why Jesus spoke in parables to see who's heart was open to receive the Spiritual message He was conveying in the parable -----

And the parable tells you that this judge was unjust ---Verse 4 tells us that he is an unbeliever -------For a while the judge refused to do anything. But then he thought, ‘This widow really annoys me. Although I don’t fear God or respect people

It was the Widow's Persistence that got him annoyed to answer her call ---this judge is far from God -----actually the judge was ruled by Satan the god of this world ------as all unbelievers are ------
