Reflection: Luke 24
I had planned to cover this chapter in two days, but as I read it this morning, I realized Luke has all these events happening in one day.
What a powerful narrative! Not only has Jesus left the tomb, He has appeared to the two individuals on the road and to the disciples & their companions. Their eyes are opened to His presence and He instructs them about His fulfillment of the Hebrew scriptures.
Now they are witnesses to all things. Repentance and forgiveness of sins is to be proclaimed to all nations in His name.
The women, first on the scene at early morning, disappear from the story.
After telling the disciples to remain in Jerusalem until they are clothed in power, He blesses them and is taken up to heaven.
Just imagine how the disciples would have been feeling. When Jesus was alive, they often misunderstood him; some of them fell asleep on him; Judas betrayed him; the others scattered and Peter denied him three times. But still He returned to bless them and open their eyes to the scriptures. And now they are filled with joy, blessing God in the temple.
