Good tiding I bring pinga - picked up my phone last evening and it was PilgrimsProgress calling! Just checking in to let me know she was in town. Always a great pleasure to talk & laugh with her. She's soon off on the next leg of her continuing Canadian adventure - to western Newfoundland and Labrador this time. I do think she's seen much more of our beautiful country than many Canadians have - this is her 5th journey here!

wow @Inannawhimsey - that was quite a walk you took! How long were you strolling? Sounds like a few hours at least. I've driven over the Lions Gate bridge - can imagine walking it would be an adventure for sure - vertigo or not! Does it have a solid deck on the 'sidewalk' portion, or open so you see through it?

12.5 km?

with more than a few resttops (i made some experimental treats -- sausages wrapped in toasted soft tortillas cut up and a water bottle) -- thank goodness for McDonalds free restrooms & cheep pop (i still have some in my fridge -- one thing i've learned from my wife is the advantage of pouring one's endless mcdonalds pop into a water bottle for later consumption)

the pedestrian & cycling paths on the Lions' Gate Bridge used to be quite terrifying -- not only was the pavement cracked and there was NO RAILING between the traffic and you, but the sidewalk CANTED TOWARDS THE CARS...

now, it looks like this

(and yes, those are sphinxes on rent from Egypt -- they work literally for stories & the fearful thought or two by absentminded motorists not paying attention to traffic)

Saint Paul's Indian Catholic Church was neet -- strange to see such lofty church spires poking up from such an ordinary suburb and foliage...they have a garden nearby that has plaques, starting with 'creation' at one end, then going to 'transition' then at the other end 'tranquility'

now on that google map, you can zoom in to each area and go to 'street view' to see the surroundings...you could travel through stanley park, over the bridge...

Looks like a nice path to follow, with the exception of the cars. I don't like to be that close to vehicles on a walk. I actually prefer to take a more windy route close to my home if I want to walk to services than the more direct sidewalk by a busy road.

I'm just popping in for a minute at Carolla way back-Yes I am repacking. I'm paddling Nanaimo to Victoria next week in 26 foot long canoes. I have less responsibilities-I'm captian of a crew of 6 paddlers. Each of the 9 boats will carry 6 paddlers and camping gear and food. Ocean paddling here I come. I may see somegal as well.

and late breaking news-another canoe has just lost 2 paddlers-so if anyone is interested let me know. we leave sat.

Arthriitis Pinga-at least you know how to treat it-and with your weight loss-the strain on your joints is less than it was.

I have never done any serious canoe tripping, just day trips at most. Should probably try it some time. I'm volunteering a bit with the local canoe club and they do do some tripping so who knows?

Wow - ocean travel in a canoe! That sounds pretty amazing @Tabitha ! 9 boats sounds like quite an expedition - will there be press coverage? (y) Seriously - it seems noteworthy to me. My first canoe trip was in a "war canoe" - now I think renamed "freighter canoes" to be more PC. It was at Camp Tawingo. Still memorable for me. I took quite a few trips after that - the longest being when I was 20, with my Dad & younger brothers when we spent almost 3 weeks paddling & portaging on crown land near the Ontario Manitoba border. Lots of good memories there.

Yup, Tabitha. Made sense when the swelling kicked in in the other joints. Aspirin is the key for me. Years ago would do 20 a day during a big flareup under doctor's orders. This seems to be manageable with much fewer.

I agree, carolla, regarding it being noteworthy. I think that mendalla may be a potential future tripper Tabitha!

chemgal, i read your post as windy (as in breezy)....but I am thinking you meant windy as in weaving around....isn't the english language wonderful.

Carolla-war canoes are now called either "Big Canoes or Voyageur canoes. (Frieghter canoes are different-long and skinny and often with a spot for a little motor.
Press coverage? Sometimes Last year in the Brigade from Kingston to Ottawa we had press coverage-and the year before when going Vernon to OK Falls press coverage.
Take care my friends-we each do have our own adventures in our lives.

That is a lot of walking!

I don't get over to the North Shore often enough. Lions Gate bridge at sunset is stunning - both directions - although I think I like the view heading towards Stanley Park (away from N.Shore/ back to downtown) best.

I watched the video and thought, who stands and hangs around on the bridge for a chat, facing the traffic (I could understand stopping to look out over the water) ? It looked odd - then I realized that one woman was taking a photo of the other one. Lol! Duh.

My dad and I are planning excursions:

east of lonsdale quay: https://www.google.com/maps/place/The Flag Shop/@49.2962222,-123.0319086,13z/data=!4m20!1m17!4m16!1m6!1m2!1s0x548671b323eba45b:0xef535a3561b4b416!2sLonsdale Quay SeaBus Northbound!2m2!1d-123.08323!2d49.310115!1m3!2m2!1d-123.031391!2d49.2827793!3e2!6m3!1i0!2i0!3i9!3m1!1s0x0:0x6e2e0efbafdef853

and then probably back to downtown along Hastings

from Braid Station to Kanaka Creek (really great swimming pools, a natural waterslide & crayfish & fossils & maybe some brain-eating amoeba -- that would explain me to a T *waggles eyebrows*)
