Carney needs to ask Chiang to step down. He should’ve done so already. His PM-ship is not guaranteed and he needs to take it more seriously. Comments like that - allowing the guy who made them to run for office is just…nope. It’s a big mistake for the party.

Carney could definitely be doing better as PM. His refusal to learn/improve French, his undue mocking of Toronto, and now this. His inexperience as political and national leader is showing

It's the same old, same old. Close ranks and plug your ears. We've seen every party do this with members who pulled crap at some point. Carney may be an outsider to party politics but is clearly not enough of one. Or he's listening too closely to advisors who are not outsiders. And, sadly, I doubt enough Canadians outside the Chinese community will care enough for it to make a difference on April 28. In fact, I imagine that even the media will forget about it as soon as some other "hot new story" pops up. I might even argue that it only got attention because it's basically been a slow campaign so far given the parties are largely united in their anti-Trump stances.

Maybe it’s because this is how he’d handle an out of line staff member as boss of a private company and hasn’t made the mental switch to realize that public office is different and elected officials need to be held to a higher standard? Teachable moment for Carney I hope?

Well, and the fact that the joke that was supposedly "mocking" Toronto is a common one made about Canada, Ontario, and various parts thereof so was hardly "mocking" Toronto. Some people pick strange hills to die on.

You'll find that largely what every poster does on Wondercafe2 is to share their opinions on things. But I disagree with what you said. Carney participated in the mocking of Toronto. And my fourth point is just a matter of record: He has little experience as Prime Minister. He has little experience as party leader. He has no experience as Parliamentarian
