Merry Christmas to all as well!
German Christmas was yesterday and I was blessed with good company ( junior and dil) and many parcels from Germany. All my siblings have send something, even my brother who never gave me a present for as long as I can remember. He is i to woodworking and has made me a beautiful nutmeg grinder and sent along four jars of home made and home grown jam. I am sure that wasn’t exactly what customs allows, but it got here no problem.
I also unpacked an adventure in a box from
@Delightful Life - a journey around the world in several forms and colours. I don’t think any secret Santa gift has been as exiting to unpack. Really hit the kid in me.
Today I am taking my old neighbour to visit her husband in the hospital for Christmas lunch. They are offering turkey dinner in the cafeteria which we can take upstairs. He will not get out of bed. He hasn’t been motivated to do so but once in the past week and he is either an assist of two or a lift- and with physio off today and staffing reduced, even trying to get him out with an electric lift would be too much to ask - and I think he would not take the lift well, either, he is too confused. Her daughter has been taking the wife to visit every day, but will stay home today. The daughter‘s son died this year in a car accident and she’s got enough to deal with on Christmas. They have two more adult children. The wife is not doing well, she forgets to eat and is overly busy moving stuff around in her home- compensating for the stress. She does not realize that hubby will not get back on his feet. He has no will to live left and his memory is so poor that he can’t think about the future. Potentially, he could return as bedcare- but for that they would have to accept three times a day home care and also empty out the second bedroom which is stuffed full with stuff, furniture ,boxes of things, which she has a hard time to let go. The room is so full one can barely walk into it.
Christmas day will not be the right time to talk about all of this.
After lunch, I will take her back to “ eggnog by the fireplace” social time in her facility. She hates eggnog, so I have some hot chocolate.
once I have her settled back in the appartment, I am heading to my friend’s house where we spent Christmas day for the last 20+ years. As always, we have turkey and watch the Griswold family. This year, two foreign students of their daughter and one Nfld friend who is alone on Christmas will also join us. My friend is a perfect party planner, so we will have games, trivia, prizes and lots of fun. Everyone was to bring one small item that is part of the prize and is Christmas vacation themed with a quote on it- I got Christmas lights and an extension cord-“ drumroll, please!”
