Never had homemade dumplings - but I'm guessing they are much better than the average Chinese restaurant's?

Depends on the restaurant. If they have a good chef and do their own dumplings fresh on site, they could be as good as homemade (I haven't found such a place in Canada, though there are some great dumpling places in China). Definitely better than frozen grocery store Chinese dumplings, though. Which, alas, is all we have time for these days. Some of them are good but not as good as homemade or good restaurant fare.

I think I am sick. I fell asleep watching tv with Chemguy and woke up with a sore throat (plus ear, of course). This whole treat any sore or odd sensation in your throat as a medical emergency is BS. No lump, so I'm going to wait for either that to happen  or for my extra set of hands to come home. Til then I'm watching Netflix.

Ugh - I'm sorry @ChemGal . I can't imagine the anxiety that must come along with all of this. The flu that I have accompanies comes along with a really sore throat so I hope that that's "just" it. Enjoy Netflix! :)

sounds like a reasonable plan ... considering the context can be really helpful ... noting chemguy's nasty cold & the penchant for germs to travel. Hopefully you'll soon feel better ... you know what "they" say, with treatment a cold will usually last a week or so, without treatment it takes about 7 days to get better!

Treatment was a bit rough today. Veins looked great but didn't work so great. I blame being sick on not being able to handle the needles well today, took a nap before going for the arm. Throat is better than before, although still sore. So it was a combo of both, but the attack stayed mild and fairly constant until now. If my throat symptoms stay fairly consistent, I think skipping tomorrow and then treating Sunday will make sense. Hopefully by then I will be fine to go back to every 3-4 days.

Chemguy is feeling better, he's a bit congested and complaining his nose hurts from blowing it so much yesterday. Hopefully that means this means I'll be over it soon too, although I expect to feel worse before feeling better, I'm still pretty congestion-free, just minor cough & sore throat.

Yes, this bug that I have had has now transformed into a sore throat. Not happy here... but Florida in less than a week, so... holding out for it.

I had my euchre night last night. Had.a beach boys theme. Made the mistake of not eating lunch or dinner before starting..... definitely got a buzz on. Frustrated by only have 4 of us, and then, the 4th not showing, so we only had 3. We played 3 handed euchre and made the rules up as we went. It was still fun, and I am glad that I had it.

Here is the d'oh moment. I was home late scurrying around to get ready. I threw the ice into a big crystal bowl, then placed the bag behind me on the bureau. I kept doing work, getting fruit out, some nuts, setting up the cards, and prepping the drinks. Then, my first friend arrived. Have you noticed anything? I didn't move the ice bag. I came back into the room just before bed to turn off the light, and felt water on the floor. Yup, the ice was melting down the buffet, under the glass of the buffet, and all over the hardwood floor. Ouch. That delayed my going to bed by 30min or so. Sigh. All is well.

Um... It's water. It would have evaporated by morning .

Ooo ... too bad about the no show for your euchre night pinga! But it sounds like you all managed nevertheless to have some good fun together - floods notwithstanding!

My mate has taken on an interesting new project. His brother-in-law, a big garage sale enthusiast, brought him a small 'rock tumbler' a while ago. So he's dragged it out this week to see what he can do. He's been reading about making "beach glass." Now of course the machine needs to be taken apart before use, to clean. lubricate etc, - which requires a certain unusual type of torque screwdriver or wrench. So he's had to source that, and he's heading off to the incomparable Princess Auto to get one today. Next he will need a small quantity of sharp sand, or special ingredients to use for the abrasive in the tumbler. We may have sand in the garage - likely frozen solid - but he's checking it out. So that should all keep him busy for a while :-)

He's also been busy, at my request, figuring out how to convert photos to colouring book style drawings. We have taken excellent photos of our church stained glass windows. The chancel window is an "Easter window" & I want to make a colouring book for our kids, to draw their attention to the windows, tell the story of all the symbolism etc. So that's a little joint project we've got going at the moment.

Snowy cold wintertime gives time for such pursuits to keep our minds busy!

It does sound like a great project, Carolla. (actually both do)

I am now planning my "do something new" each month of this year... and filling in a few more items

I'm looking at Las Vegas the first week in December (and attending Cirque du Soleil and visiting the grand canyon) -- that would be 3 new things!

I'm looking at a canoe trip in Sept to Killarney (canoeing is still new to me, and this would be a nice 4 day trip)

Oooo - Vegas - it's like Disney World for adults - so over the top. Enjoyed a brief visit there a few years ago - on our southwest travel expedition some years ago. A few days in Vegas was more than enough for me! We went to see the Cirque show "O" - it was truly amazing - with a theatre built especially for its water focus.

Best part of Vegas for us was the Grand Canyon and Red Rock Canyon (definitely worth a visit). The city itself is quite spectacular but very ... empty for me.

I loved Red Rock Canyon. Do know that the grand canyon is almost a 3 hour drive to get to a decent look-out point from my experience. You can take a helicopter though which looks like fun. December is a nice time to go because it's not too hot (locals find it "cold"). Three or four days is the most I can do in Vegas - I've gone twice for a week and that was way too much - way too much stimulation and the overconsumption and gluttony really get to me (food, alcohol and sex). It is a very safe place to visit. The last time we were in Vegas (June 2014) we stayed at the Vdarra - I call it the anti-Vegas hotel. It is a suite hotel so you have a small kitchen (I can't remember if it includes an oven); an awesome bathroom and a beautiful bedroom. We got it on a sell-off for $80/night. My only complaint is that they use room refreshner in their rooms and I was very allergic to it but as soon as we brought it to their attention they were tripping over themselves to help us - moved us right away, offered to get me medicine, to help me move - they were just so incredible.

You can get discounted show tickets often at the discount ticket places (one is near Fashion Place mall and is a little less busy). Speaking of the Fashion Place mall the famous NYC pizzeria Grimaldis has a restaurant in there - incredible pizza. And there is Serendipity just outside of Caesar's - incredible desserts and hamburgers (made famous by the movie of the same name in NYC).

There is also the Pinball Hall of Fame where Mr Me spends a lot of his spare time when he's not playing poker (he can play for hours with just a few quarters). We haven't been to the neon graveyard for a variety of reasons but it is very cool too.

One of my big cautions about Vegas is that it is way bigger than it seems - you may be just going to the next hotel over but it's not "right next door" - it's quite a walk.

I would love to canoe in Kilarney. For my 30th bday some friends and I went for a week in Algonquin Park on a guided trip - it was so amazing. I was really hoping to do Kilarney but in most parts you have to use a "poop tube" and I just don't think I can do that (I haven't verified that - it's what the tripping company told us).

It's not a bad drive, though. Our rental car sucked but I rather enjoyed the drive. I'd rather do it in something nice, not a Nissan Cube:rolleyes:. The guy at the rental company who told us it was an UPGRADE must have been on some seriously good dopeo_O.

I want to go to the Grand again to actually get down to the bottom (we only got partway down because the trails were icy which slowed us down) but I think I'd just fly into Phoenix or other Arizona destination, get a (good) rental and head straight there rather than visiting Vegas again.

The Mob Museum was a fun afternoon, by the way. It's located in an old courthouse near Fremont Street where hearings into the Mafia were actually held in the 1950s. It covers the history of the Mob and the authorities battles with organized crime from the 19th century through to today. It's probably not for everyone but I am a fan of the Godfather and Scorsese's Mob films so I quite enjoyed it.

That sounds like fun, the Mob Museum.

I was thinking the donkey ride down the canyon sounded interesting. Was thinking a few days out by the canyon and a few days in Vegas. (few as in 2-3 days). It may end up being too expensive, but figured if we are there, let's have fun.

Thanks for the tips, folks.
