He likes to educate me on things Italians say. Sometimes it's like blackbelt never left. What does that even mean?
We went variable and did better with that. Over the long term, variable almost always wins. You go fixed as insurance against rising rates, but that insurance usually costs more in the long term. Note that people who went fixed before rates went up recently are laughing, but that's rare.My son has to renew his mortgage. A broker recommended a variable rate, saying it is unlikely to go beyond the 5. Something % the fixed rates are right now. With climate change and inflation and war in Ukraine- what do you think- is that too high a risk?
Note to self - exercise caution if accepting a glass of wine while visiting Bette! In fact, flies prefer spoiled to sweet, it appears. Put out a glass of fruit juice, and put out a glass of wine. The flies go for the wine over the juice every time. Add a drop of detergent to the wine, and you have the perfect fruit fly trap. (I live in a house surrounded by grape vines. There's a time of year in my house when fruit flies are epidemic.)

Good morning. There are heat warnings in the area again today. We left our car at my sister's for the summer and the battery went completely dead. They put it on a charger. The drive to Nanaimo got it back up to full steam. We stopped at the Toyota dealer to get it checked and it was declared good still. Yay. We did a few other errands in town and I got my infusion that protects my bones. Today will be a relaxed day around home. I'm working on an embroidery/sewing project to make a cover for the TV in our bedroom. I should be able to get it done soon.

Masking is totally awesomeMasking still helps though. I have to take my mask off during phototherapy, so it certain does help if those in the waiting room are masked. There's also been a few waves of Omicron.
The same applies to many situations, ie. someone sitting somewhere needs a drink, others masking near them helps.
I was actually pleasantly surprised with the real life results we saw with masking. Early on many people would post things about 'proof' that masks would work, which really wasn't all that relevant to infection control. Where we did see it was how COVID spread in masked vs non-masked settings.
Covid is now endemic. We have done okay with flattening the curve. We could have done better.
I have a neighbour complaining on Facebook that we've traded freedom for safety, and how that's bad. I'm struggling to see how more sick people is "freedom". I'm struggling to see how a simple act of wearing a mask is an absence of freedom.
Freedom had come to mean "no inconveniences and no responsibilities". I don't subscribe to that definition.
Yes, "we" could have done better. Like the Vaxx companies could have let their trademarks go lax so the Global South could be more vaccinated? The messaging by State Authorities could have been more consistent? Certain countries could have been totally cut off in the very beginning? There is so much that could have been done better.
Now we all have to live with the world we are living in. Not the one that we wish would be or could have been. Or scapgoating entire groups, whoever they are (wether they be African-Americans attacking Asians or a nurse losing her job from a health care system that cant afford to lose ANYONE etc)
We are past that. There is no rational reason to. Anyone can get this plague. It will continue to mutate. We can all get it merely by taking a sip at a restaurant now. It is in some animal populations.
The world is insanely complex. No one person or frame can understand it all. We arent all the same. We dont all have the same experiences or tolerances. We all suffer and have feelings and pain, but how we feel, even how we experience pain and loss and suffering is subjective. Loss is loss. Pain is pain. So in this world of sorrow, what to do? That is the rub. We each have different ways of handling this. I see it as grieving. We are globally in a state of grieving. Remember Kubler Ross and her stages?
(Scapegoating is an ancient practice...we are so afraid of it that what was that the WHO wants to change what they call Monkeypox???)
And if someone complains aboot Freedom, I ask them Freedom from What? :3
Scratch beneath the surface, listen with open ears and heart, past expectations or what the latest fashions tell us What the True and Proper Answer is...
Empathy and compassion
Mercy and grace
And maybe a lot of sex, too lol
Here, one of my fav Youtube lefties. Who recently achieved what she wanted...to be able to be who she was meant to be--a Woman.
She worked with the Royal Institution to find oot for herself what people thought. No she isn't against vaccines or masks or whatnot. She is a philosopher and a curious human being so she wanted to find oot for herself.
The bible does have its applications. Like we see through the glass dorkly. And for those with ears to hear.
We get in the way of what is really happening, which is complicated and always changing.
That is one of the reasons why I advocate some measure of meditation. Our "monkey mind" gets in the way. So we stick to one frame. Or already Know what that person is or does. Or that race. Or that sex. Or (insert group).
Eyes that see. But no claws that catch, unless you are into that thing.
Folx,
I think I have noticed a particular Belief System/Frame/Reality Tunnel/Semantic Gloss/Perspectacle
It seems to group everyone as "Bad" or "Others" various people who:
Express negative opinions on Trudeau
Express non positive opinions on CSJ, Antiracism
Express nonnegative opinions on Freedom Convoy
Express nuance on Covid, while even accepting masking, etc...like people also concerned aboot social effects or side effects (while still rare)
I find this fascinating. See the creation of a new out group in the past lil while. Maybe even being affected by it myself?
Seeing how powerful mere beliefs are. How sticking to a frame can affect a world.
I dont know, taking of course all this as true, if what if any of it was intentionally created and how much is just human beings being human beings?
Interesting thoughts on this day.
I am thankful for BetteTheRed for unintentionaly helping me grok this more
