I went strawberry picking with my daughter in law. The local upick advertised $1 a box. I thought that might have been because they didn’t have enough pickers. When we fot there, we noticed that many berries were nibbled on, but I couldn’t see any slugs. Then we noticed lots of large poop among the plants. After we picked 28 boxes ( avoiding the nibbled ones), and drove off, I noticed that the neighbouring property had a large flock of Canada geese on it. That explained it. Now I wonder if I really should eat those berries. Also worried about Avian flu and if my d-i-l could bring that on her boots home to her backyard chickens. I tried to call some NS officals to get information, but only got an answering machine.
Now I think, maybe I should cook those berries into jam. D-i- law just washed them and put them in the freezer.
I think I will also soak my boots in bleach….
What would you do?

I would cook the berries into jam, and also soak your boots in bleach. I don't think that avian flu is something to be messed with in these days of far too many, close to domesticated, Canada Geese. And knowing you, and your energy levels, I might offer to make jam from DIL's frozen ones in exchange for her soaking her boots in bleach...

I think a food born illness would be more likely than the flu from eating the berries. If washed well and intact I wouldn't be concerned about eating fresh due to flu, if poop was excessive bacteria would be my concern. Birds tend to go after berries no matter where you buy them from.

Yeah, for the boots definitely submerging in a bleach solution and if you want them to let them soak for a bit you can do that. If it wasn't boots, something like dishsoap and a brush would work on the outers of the shoes too. Seems like a fairly minimal step to avoid a problem later.

I now here cases are going down, don't know about that part of the country though.

Good morning! For picked berries and soaking boots, return flights and finished message hats, for the other topics that arise, we gather in spirit round the coffee cart to discuss. Bring your thoughts. Come for the tea, coffee, hot choc, or whatever; stay for the chats, support and camaraderie.

Thus we are driven to go*s'm ... as we ghost along as essence of being ... epistemology?

Depends on adequate roots ... proper rue?

Got home at 2 am. Got an email that two people at the wedding tested positive for Covid. Bonnie did a rapid test we had at home and tested positive and is feeling very sick. She had her fourth booster about a month ago. I tested negative and got groceries to restock our fridge.

I have a lot of weeding. We received 4 inches or 10 cm of rain while we were gone

Flowers are looking good and a squash plant is blooming.

I hope Bonnie feels better soon and that you continue to be well Jim. We'll be seeing one of your former AB colleagues soon, Carolyn W.

Keep in mind there are COVID meds too, the criteria seems to be ever changing so best to check out what it is when actually sick and not rely on what was posted a few weeks ago.
Hopefully you won't get it and she will recover soon!

*sigh* I'm a little tired of being passed around. Anaphylaxis episode this past winter lead me to contacting my GP's clinic - a temp doctor due to maternity leave. I was referred to an allergist, was surprised when I didn't see the allergist listed but one I had seen years before (not a bad surprise). This is not simple allergies though, have abnormal results and now I'm being sent to my hematologist.
I'm confused, as this is on the histamine side of things so I don't understand where my hematologist fits in and am unaware of the rare blood disorders clinic handling this type of things in general. There is a new immunologist there though as the hematologist is preparing to retire. So between those 2 plus likely taking to the hepatologist it wouldn't shock me to find out my tumours are interconnected somehow I hope it will be sorted.

Imagine not changing and being pious after this:

hmmm - interesting questions Mrs.A - I really have no idea about this. I'd need to go looking at info. Perhaps the local Public Health Unit could help you?

I first met her when she was the minister in Grande Cache in 1995. I hope you recover quickly.

Thanks. I just took an Advil. It's helping

I soon realised that it is a long drive to go anywhere in Saskatchewan!

We've driven from Regina to Saskatoon several times.....as part of a bigger drive. We both thought they were an hour or two apart. The truck stops halfway in between (where we've stopped in the past) should have been a clue they were further apart than we thought.
