Did you hear that God challenged humans to invent a game that is just like life?

Simple games based on chance failed. Chess failed too.

When humans invented backgammon God told them they had finally figured it out! Both skill and chance are involved. And a random event like double sixes can change everything.

Odd conditions ... right?

I really enjoy backgamon but don't have anyone to play with. I also like mancala - the situation is the same. My partner will play things like Monopoly, that I dislike.

After night two of checkers I think we will return to backgammon. It's such a fun game.

I also dislike Monopoly. Ditto for Risk.

Pictionary and Balderdash can be fun for a crowd. IMHO the official rules are too complicated though. Same with Clue

* snort *

Try reading the rules for pretty much any edition of Dungeons & Dragons. Or, worse, Champions (superhero game). Balderdash is excruciatingly simple after you've played a few RPGs and wargames. :nerd:

Good thing those games don't appeal to me.

Mr Paradox and I have been playing a lot of backgammon for the past few months. We are getting a little tired of it so we decided to return to cribbage for a while.
That only lasted one night.

In comparison to backgammon, crib is such a boring game! Very little strategy, no big decisions to make and no exciting dice rolls.

Giving checkers a try now. We had to look up the rules because we had both forgotten how to play. The rules are simple but the strategy can get complicated. There's some of it stored away in my memory bank from decades ago. Will see.
How about chess?

We haven't tackled that one yet. We have a chess game but it kind of intimidates me. I know the rules and how the pieces move but that's about it. Do you play chess?
No, too complicated. I did no more than three times when I was a teen with my dad. But if you want a smart game with strategic, that would be it.

Good morning! Interesting variety of games we play, and reasons for playing them. Maybe the Room could use a few board games and a few decks of cards as well. (Speaking of card games, I'd rather play cribbage than bridge, a lot less complicated and more fun). Anyway, the Cart is ready for the day. C'mon in and help yourself.

I like euchre but it can be stressful. There's so much to remember. Whose deal? What's trump? What has been played already? How many tricks have been taken?

I find that the cards used as counters often get out of alignment so there's the score to keep track of, too.

But it's a fun game unless your opponents are the cutthroat type

I don't know anything at all about bridge. But I have heard bridge players say euchre is ridiculously simple in comparison.

A weather is coming to NS. We will have everything imaginable within the next 24 hours, freezing fog, freezing drizzle, freezing rain, rain, flurries, snow, thunder snow and very high winds, ending with -16 degrees feeling like -22. I am just hoping I make it home from work to watch it from inside and that the power will stay on….

Good morning! It looks like our friends out east are in for some more 'interesting' weather events. Stay safe, and stock up on batteries, just in case. As we think of you, we gather with you in spirit round the coffee cart. Allis ready, come and get it.

I see in the CNN that there appears to be a well preserved (conservative) trend in the US to maintain that money and power is best to maintain a totalitarian mindset! Democracy is thus indicated as the opponent ... the enemy within ...

With all the underpinnings pulled ... will the surroundings collapse as a failed democratic empire because they cannot gather in parts (piece/peace whatever and thus raptures) which the powerful love as all sentience leaves! Dissociation Personality Disorder when contact is lost it connections?

I see a lot of weird underground and obscure connections that may obliterate that entitlement! Ground effect sol ... autonomous collapse ... mystical like! The ups will never see it get to them ...

Oh my goodness! Any 'frost quakes' in the forecast? LOL That would just round things out nicely! Our temps are dropping dramatically here today too - the coldest weekend yet is on its way. I always worry about people who are without housing in these extreme situations. One of our local churches has opened an "Inn from the Cold" space for 20 people when we have a cold alert - this is an improvement from past years, however our numbers of unhoused people in our area are also on a dramatic rise. So difficult.
