Good morning. It's a rainy day and there is risk of more flooding in parts of BC. Hopefully they don't come to pass.

It's quite cold here, and snowing not heavily but persistently. I suspect there will be snow to clear tomorrow.

It's wet and sloppy out there. The car said the temperature was 6 degrees. A friend of mine and I went to a local quilt store to get fabric for a bag I'm going to make. It was am expensive and fun outing.

We were a part of the power outage that affected a good chunk of the city. Good news is that today it was much warmer than yesterday and our gas fireplace does work without power. It has a 'lightswitch' which I think I tested during a short outage before but wasn't certain.

Communication wasn't the best. Went out sometime before 6, we were told ETA 8:30 and it was updated to 9:30 a few minutes before we had power - for 30s. Hopefully it's on for good now. I wasn't totally impressed when I went to the bathroom with flashlight, didn't make it as far as the toilet when the lights came on so twirled around to turn on the bathroom lights, turned off flashlight. Sat down and then boom pitch black. Haha Chemguy expected me to call for help but flashlight was in reach.

With how early sunset is here we didn't have much for outside light even when it first kicked in. The snow at least helped to reflect the small amount.

Good morning! A bit of snow overnight here, and windy. Looks like January usually looks. Anyway, the cold conditions outside are no match for the warmth of community and coffee, tea, etc, here in the Room. All is ready, come and get it.

We have a warming trend and it feels positively balmy outside. Our wee dog hates really cold weather and finds it a challenge to stay out long enough to do his business. This morning he didn't want to come in for several minutes.

Once the heat is gone in the night ... everything condenses into a knot of animalism ... thus we gather while looking on from out there!

That Sidney actor had great sayings about the darker side ...

Oh the animal urge to get a smell of old stuff thawing ... gives life to the vegetation types ... must be ... or musty as connection, tyed in?

Neuroscients say there is nothing more powerful to the psyche than smells ... it gives hints of what's past tous! That's all ...

I made the extreme-ish choice to limit my contacts by stopping phototherapy for a while. My break from it over Christmas went well. I can change my mind. The currently plan is to have a break for the rest of Jan. Schools started yesterday, the case count is just so high. The decision felt right when I went for one last treatment today and spoke to the 2 techs and neither tried to change my mind. I've known for a while things are a big mess, but Dr. Hinshaw's demeanor seemed so different yesterday that I went from thinking about it to making a decision.

Good morning and happy Wednesday! For winter and its effects on outages, for trying to keep as sage as possible during times of pandemic, for other topics and concerns, we are here. Gather round in spirit, converse, complain, complement, share whatever, and listen gently to whatever. Water is hot, coffee is brewed. Enjoy.

Romantic brutes tend to put sages down as something they don't wish to know any further ... creating mortal situations ...

Can republics exist without supportive demos of what they did critically wrong? A skill of those below the knowledgeable line, perspective vision of the landowners ... oversight!

Things missed only later?

Good morning. It is pouring rain today so we'll be staying inside instead of going on the walk that was planned. I have a couple sewing projects to work on.

This climate change should be called "Global Wyrding". Yesterday was in the minus twenties (minus 30s with the windchill) and this morning it's -1. It's really hard to dress for it.

Mr Paradox and I have been playing a lot of backgammon for the past few months. We are getting a little tired of it so we decided to return to cribbage for a while.
That only lasted one night.

In comparison to backgammon, crib is such a boring game! Very little strategy, no big decisions to make and no exciting dice rolls.

Giving checkers a try now. We had to look up the rules because we had both forgotten how to play. The rules are simple but the strategy can get complicated. There's some of it stored away in my memory bank from decades ago. Will see.

We played ingenious when the power was out. I like it multiple games to play with the one thing and simple rules yet strategy is needed. With the power out we went with a dice game but in retrospect the cards may have been better, some of the colours were a bit hard to see without shining the flashlight on them.

I do feel like it is more strategic with more than 2 players but simple can be good.

Yeah, crib is fine as a time killer but it is not in the same league as something like backgammon intellectually. I never really got into backgammon. Learned how to play, but it was never a favorite with either family or friends so never played it much. Once I hit my early teens, my crowd were mostly into RPGs and wargames, with occasional forays into classic boardgames like Monopoly. And we played chess since three or so of us were on the school team.
