Remember our conversation re cards. My son discovered cards were an essential item and gave his Dad a card, which was originally a "happy birthday Mother" card. So funny how he crossed off Mom and all the pronouns and updated them.

Thinking a bit more about Franklin and the Tooth Fairy and reading it to the kids in church. I probably went with the idea of God making us all unique.

we had those Franklin books too. Lovely stories and illustrations

one of my favorite children’s books is Blueberries for Sal. The author also wrote Make Way for Ducklings. Both are adorable

i Saved a lot of our kids books. We had hundreds, sister was a kindergarten teacher who really believed in books. I wish I had saved them all

I donate books a lot. When I was a teacher, my classroom library was mostly my own books donated. When I left teaching, I let the incoming teacher have my teaching supplies...lots of books, and lots of math manipulatives. Nowadays, I buy books and then pass them around for others to read. Just last week though I sold some books on Facebook marketplace. I might try that again, and donate the money to my church. It's one way to help the church out when they can't do other fundraisers.

Good morning! Time to rise and shine! As we remember the childhood books that shaped us, our kids and grands, as we think of books, and the gift of reading in general, let us give thanks for the ongoing memories and lessons they provide, that literature can preserve and pass on the wisdom of the ages, and that (as a slogan popular in my childhood says,) Reading is FUNdamental!

Okay, I got the "rise" part done, but I'm not exacting "shining" yet! I worked in the garden a LOT on the weekend - some muscles are bit stiff today - but that's okay. We are awaiting delivery of a cubic yard of maple wood chips today, and 7 bags of gravel - so more opportunities to move and work my muscles awaits me! IF the forecasted rain occasionally lets up over the next few days. I'm wishing the weather would start warming up a bit more - I want to start hardening off my many seedlings before transplanting to the garden - but it's still pretty chilly! My petunias are flowering, and the peppers have already set flower buds. They are eager!

Good morning all. Another rainy day here.

my seeds are up but they won’t get into the garden until at least June. It has been unseasonably cold all April but that has kept the daffodils blooming longer

My perennials seems to be doing well. Peonies are coming, lilies and irises similar. Flowering trees have been doing well. So far, so good, in other words. Still too early for annuals and we only do them in the deck boxes.

I put pansies in my window boxes on the deck. Then replace them when it starts to get really warm (or append to them). They do well even with snow falling on a spring day, don't mind the frost, and i love the sense of seasons changing.
I have put leaf and red lettuce in with them this year.

Good morning. It's a peaceful dreary morning here. We took advantage of the beautiful weather yesterday and enjoyed a walk. We aren't gardening but are enjoying the flowers and nature around us. IMG_20210502_154117_243.jpg

This is the biggest arbutus tree we've even seen. Those two men are average height.

I don’t know that type. I thought it was a Fiscus from the pic. Very cool tree

looked it up. Totally cool tree

Arbutus trees are very cool. They can twist and turn as they grow and the trunks can be quite orange. Last year I learned they flower. I hadn't realized that.

Just tried to do census online. Was told to try again later due to high volume of activity. Hahaha

And they are hiring both enumerators and supervisors. The application process is also experiencing a high volume of requests at this time. One must come back later to apply. Hahaha
