Had a great time last night with all my euchre buddies - combined cards, Christmas & birthday party! Up early today - off to get birdseed & suet for the season ... we love watching the birds at our feeders, although a big hawk has also found it an interesting and tasty hobby of late.

Finishing up wrapping, making a wine cork wreath, & off to supper at friends' tonight :-) Lovely sunshine today too! But not for long - I think the winter solstice is tomorrow. Then the days will start getting longer :-)

I'm going to try to stay relaxed this weekend. Will be going grocery shopping soon, to make a Christmas Eve dish. Chemguy has promised to help with it, I've never done it before.
Beyond that, it's laundry, sort out gifts so we know what gift bags & tins to bring, wrap the few that need to here, and get everything ready to go..

I play Scrabble on my ipad . . . just with the computer - I don't play on-line games. Thanks for sharing that, Pinga, about how you feel about FB games, etc. I value your perspective.

Two nights ago I was playing and I scored a 158 point word!!!! I used all my 7 letters around one letter that had two triple score points on each side - the word I used was "relative" . . . I was going to play "relate" and then realized I could form the word "relative". I couldn't believe it when I saw how many points I got! That was a first, and probably the last.

Thinking of Pinga, and others who will notice an empty chair around one of their tables over the Christmas Season. And thinking of those who are this day sitting at a loved one's bedside, not knowing what the next hours and days will bring.

I am cleaning kitchen counters and doing some little cleaning jobs today so that I can do my regular housecleaning on Monday and Tuesday.

Yes - and a backup thingie like a video camera showing you where you are backing in order to avoid the apple tree next to your driveway.

My back-up thingie didn't help me when I was trying to leave our local SPCA's parking lot the other day. They have rocks piles around the driveway so people can drive over in the rest of the lot. With the snow we have I couldn't see the rock, only the snow, and my sensor didn't pick it up either. I was very lucky I was breaking when I did anyway. I think I just touched it with my exhaust pipe, but nothing was damaged.

Wow congratulations.
There is an achievement in the xbox scrabble games, and a raking system. I finally got the 100 pt word and was thrilled. I am incredibly impressed by your 176 score!

LOL@Beloved I'm close enough to the border that I can easily pop over. It's 1 hour from my door to my American address. My address is a company called "Ship Happens". For $4 candian per parcel they receive my parcels and send me an email. I pop over and get them. Nothing shady at all

SIgh, i fell asleep to be awoken a few times tonight.
First a planned christmas gathering was being cancelled. Then, that it was going to be held by another family member. (A bit of a shock as this comes from my husbands side of the family which is generally quite stable. Was disappointed to hear it was cancelled, was going to try to offer to pull it together, when another sibling offered, so...woot, we are back on, but concerned about the family that cancelled.

Then back to sleep when my Dad called in a panic. So, off to his house. Dealt with the situation, only to be ambushed by a brother-in-law outside of the house on how he should be in a home, and is incapable of caring for himself. Sigh, just a week ago, i had helped Dad mentally plan how he could get to a doctor's appt by cab, then, get the cab driver to take him to the busstop to get home. He did it, he did it well, and he was super proud of himself. The man is quite capable of being where he is, and does not want to move, though he does need more help. I must admit , though, it was not what I needed. I then returned to the house to talk to Dad about the message he was giving. I know that sometimes he likes sympathy, so he moans...not recognizing the impact he will have, or who will take it a certain way. Thinking that the quiet and stabilizing Christmas with dad may be more complex than I anticipated.

Tabitha - that's how I picked up my books after they were printed in the States. A friend told me that he regularly uses an address just across the border. I arranged to have my books sent there by courier - much cheaper and faster than having them sent to Canada. Seelerman and I stopped at the Canadian customs on our way over and told the officer the purpose of our trip - drove another ten klms to the address (a warehouse-type building), paid $10 (Cdn) to the clerk, then back to the border, paid Cdn tax, and home for lunch.
While across the border in the small American town we noticed several different companies that seemed to exist simple to receive mail for Canadians. The one I dealt with advertised 'no package too big or too small' - anything from a truck to an envelop. I think perhaps that entire village may exist to serve Canadians.

So, did my morning call to my Dad, to find that he had a visit after I left by family, that was quite upsetting. They didn't leave until after midnight.

I do wish the adults in my life would show some emotional maturity. There are times for conversations and ways to have them. That wasn't one of them.

I imagine it's discouraging to have all that ongoing family drama. I think most families experience some of it - variable by degrees of intensity & frequency. Stressful to watch it happening. Hoping the other side who cancelled event is okay. And good for you pinga for holding off on rescuing the event - good news that another has stepped up.

"Ship Happens" - gotta love that business name! So handy to be able to do those cross border runs - with so much available online, but not shipping to Canada, or doing so at exorbitant rates, it's a great convenience.

And ZOWEE Beloved!! Amazing scrabble score! I haven't played for a while ... might have to get the board out & drag my husband into a game over the holidays :-)

My hubby and daughter don't like to play Scrabble - that is why I play on my ipad. My son liked to play, but he doesn't live here.
